Hello! This here be a relationship thread for my laser firing, motorbike riding for about 15 minutes at a time, metalworking Supers girl, Mercedes Guenther! Her overall personality is as follows;

Mercedes is generally quiet and calm, owing to her Gift dissuading her from expending very much energy. She avoids speaking unless spoken to, and can be rather intimidating due to her appearance, hobbies, and potentially destructive gift. Those who interact with her, however, find that she’s very welcoming, friendly and supportive. She enjoys hearing about other peoples’ interests and hobbies, and will encourage them to pursue them further and to show her the results. Mercedes has a protective instinct, stemming from how she sees Lincoln as needing her to look after him, and so can be shockingly fierce and defensive of anyone she believes is being picked on or bullied.

She's interested in motorcycles and motorcycle repair, metalworking, yoga, meditation and light exercise, and collecting stuffed animals. She's not one for doing anything particularly strenuous or else she's likely to literally overheat and die, and she's very protective of her little (by about 4 minutes) brother Lincoln. She's ambivalent about his orb.

Potential relationships include:

• Friends who get along with her due to mutual interests/hobbies, or just naturally gravitate towards her due to her calming aura and generally relaxed personality
• Friends/associates who she's very protective of due to them being easy bully targets, or just generally shy or nervous - whether they appreciate Mercedes running to their defence is another matter entirely!
• People who dislike her, whether that be because they're wary of her potentially incredibly destructive power, or because they've got on the wrong side of her due to her labelling them a bully/asshole/nasty piece of work.
• Anyone who's got close ties to Lincoln will probably be at least aware of her, for better or worse!
• Mercedes has dated a fair amount of people before, so maybe you want to be on the list of exes who decided that cuddling a microwave oven wasn't exactly conductive towards intimacy!
• And anything else y'all might think of!

Yvette Monday - "We haven't talked at length, but she's been very sweet whenever we've gotten the chance. She's got a good head on her shoulders too. I'm impressed. If I had that Gift..."
Kincaid Rawlins - "Hard to read. He's... catty, haha, towards me, but he's that way to everyone. Maybe he just needs time and space. Like, you know. An actual cat."
Jenelle Greene - "One of these days she'll come to school with a brand new hole burnt into her hand, and nobody will be able to blame me."

Yvette probably knows of Mercedes more than directly knows her—she's talked to Lincoln more and is a bit ambivalent there, but no real hard feelings. She's likely sympathetic about the overheating and dying thing.

Oh yeah, Mercedes gets along fantastically with August; we've talked about this a bunch and there's a lot of things they share in common in terms of both their interests and their own perspective of their powers. Mercy's beams being entirely light based means there's probably potential for Cuddles at some point? Perhaps something to explore....

Sounds fine to me, I'm sure they'd get on well if they did interact with each other but opportunities to do so are probably few and far between! Although, I feel as though Mercy would be quietly conflicted about how she approached Yvette - given she's someone who clearly loathes her power and would potentially be a good Protection Target, except she also seems relatively well-adjusted personality-wise and avoids bullies for the most part??? Much to consider on Mercedes' end...

Regarding Mercedes: I have a hunch that she'd want to be protective of Raymond, since he tries to hide his shyness and similarly experiences Gift-related "meltdowns" when he overexerts himself. At the same time, though, they don't have much else in common, and I can imagine him being rather resentful at what he perceives as her acting "motherly" towards him.

Sounds good! And yeah, Yvette doesn't get actually bullied much but does draw a lot of curiosity/attention/people wondering why after her hair got caught in the door her head is venting rainbow dust. For her that's at least as bad, but part of what makes it that way is that it isn't intentional or malicious.

Hewwo! Yes, that all sounds good to me! If Mercy sees him acting obviously defensive or snapping at people, she'd probably be able to put two and two together and realise he's lashing out because of his Gift and she would immediately go into defensive mode and hover around him all the time to make sure he's doing okay and that he's had enough water to drink and that he's not stressing out etc. etc. Even if he made it known to her that she's bothering him by trying to mother him, she'd... probably still try and do so! She's not good at not worrying about people that way.

I should probably clarify — Raymond's "meltdowns" are quite literal, not emotional. If he's feeling strong emotions or exerting his body more than he can handle, he will begin melting into a blob.
