Hear. Fear. Here.

Day 2, PM for entry.

Following a well-worn path from the temple that leads behind the building and the memorial garden takes you to the cliff face itself. Featuring a sheer drop to the water and rocks below and no barrier of any kind, the edge of the cliff is not one for the faint of heart. A large roughly cut wooden sign has been haphazardly hammered into the ground here but whatever was originally painted upon it has long since washed away leaving only a shadow of a single word behind.

((Colin McCabe continued from Bent))

Colin’s head thrummed with irritation and dull pain as he lifted it from the ground, carrying with it a thin coating of dirt on one side that he quickly brushed off.

Never before had sleep come so easily to him, probably because of how exhausting it was to be running around a tropical island under the constant threat of death, and so he’d found himself a tree and propped himself up against it before dozing off and apparently falling to his side.

It was ironic, though. All Colin had needed to fix his fucking sleep habits was to get abducted and have a bomb strapped to his damn neck. The grim bullshittery of it all would have probably have elicited a chuckle from him, if he hadn’t been the butt of the joke.

Standing up with a grunt that made him wonder if he was actually as old as his joints felt, he checked out his bags to make sure that whatever ducks he had were still in a goddamn row before starting on a few stretches.

It was still early morning, he assumed, since the promised announcements hadn’t come along. There was still time before the moment of truth: who in the class was actually secret psycho, cause Colin couldn’t conceive that there weren’t at least a few out of, like, 150.

As he performed his basic exercises, he found his mind wandering to the question of who that might be. There were some real sociopaths in this class, schmoozer and politician sorts that had no real personality beyond pretending to be whatever they needed to be. But were those the kinds of idiots that went crazy on day 1?

Colin let out a sigh through gritted teeth as he gazed out over the cliffside. Whoever it was, the moment of truth was fast approaching.

[Regina Petrov Continued From Steady As She Goes]

It had been a long day for the two of them.

After finally making their way out of the woods, Regina and Matt had spent the entire day since they lost the rest of their group wandering around the island, not staying in any one place for too long. Somehow, they’d avoided contact with any other members of their class the rest of the day. At first Regina’s mood had been pretty low, but, as the day progressed, Matt had really helped her to restore her shine just a bit. She felt really lucky to have him with her. On her own, she wasn’t really sure she would have been able to make it through the day, at least not with her hope and motivation intact.

Grateful for him was an understatement.

Sure, she’d hit a bit of a low when everyone vanished earlier in the day, but now she felt strong again, and even if she was still a little scared, she knew she could power through as long as she had good people by her side. Matt was the first of those good people, but she planned on making sure she found more. Adonis, Camille, Lucas, Abel, Valerija and more of her friends were still out there, and she was going to find them no matter what. And poor Caroline. Regina was worried about her most of all. She knew she had to find her as soon as possible. Caroline was her friend, and her responsibility, and she had to make sure the girl was in her right mind. She just prayed to god that Caroline was taking her pills like she was supposed to. This wasn’t the kind of place that would be good for her to be off her medication.

This island was still very dangerous, after all, even ignoring the death game they were all being forced to play.

When the sky began to darken, the two of them found somewhere to hold up for the night. It was oddly serene, just the two of them hiding out in the night. For a moment, you could even forget what was going on around them. But every time you started to forget, it would come crashing back into your mind like a nightmare you couldn’t wake up from. Regina did her best to stay strong. Both for herself, and for Matt. She was relying on him, but she knew that it was a two-way street. They had to be strong for each other. Somehow, they were able to sleep, even for a few hours. Regina awoke in the early morning. She could see the changing colors in the sky when she awoke.

Another day.

They’d survived for now.

Matt woke up around the same time as her, and they made the decision to move on. Just in case. They found themselves walking uphill after a stretch, going up a cliffside. Looking at the map, Regina realized they weren’t too far off from where they’d first come into contact. The island looked so small on the map, but crossing it was making her weary. She really wasn’t used to being so active for such long periods of time. The heat of the island was intense as well, and Regina had abandoned her sweater early the day before and replaced it with a simple off-white tank top. It was much easier to move around in. they passed a building after a fashion. It looked like some sort of Temple. Regina didn’t like the looks of it. Every building they’d passed looked as if it had seen better days, but the Temple looked especially haggard. Bypassing it, they found themselves approaching the cliffside, and ahead of them, Regina could make out the form of a person.

“Colin?!” Regina called out when she recognised the stretching form. Colin wasn’t a friend per-se, but it was someone familiar, and also someone who she didn’t believe could be a threat.

It was both a relief and an excitement to find another classmate after so long of seeing no one. Regina looked back, making sure Matt was coming behind her, before walking closer to the new face, smiling ear to ear.

“Thank goodness you’re alright. We haven’t seen anyone for almost a day it feels like. It’s good to see you.” She sighed as she spoke, feeling a sense of happiness wash over her for a moment.

Regina had planned on saying more, but a loud crackling sound of speakers coming to life interrupted her, causing her to jump a bit in alarm. A voice began to speak, blaring through the morning air like the voice of God. But no, Regina knew that this voice was the voice of a Devil. No God would sound so joyous in such a predicament. Some of the first words out of him mouth stopped her line of thought dead in its tracks. She felt her body shiver, and her knees buckled, her legs giving out from under her as she fell to the ground in shock and horror.

Abel was dead. Killed by Paloma.

It took a moment for that sentence to process in her mind. Abel was dead? No… that couldn’t be true. Abel, who she’d seen not two days before? Who she could remember as far back as her memory allowed? Who she used to take baths with when they were children? Abel, who she’d known her entire life? He was gone? That didn’t make any damn sense to her. Not one bit.

She felt the tears burn her cheeks as they poured down her face. She held her hand up to her mouth in disgust, gripping her face tightly as the voice from above rattled off the rest of the dead from the day previous.

So many names.

The people who’d done the killing, too.

She couldn’t process it all. It hurt too damn much. Her chest felt so tight, like it would burst at any moment.

This was wrong. It was all wrong.

A choked sob burst forth from her throat as the announcements died off, and she crumpled into herself from the pain.

((Matthew Hunt continued from Steady As She Goes))

Maybe it was a blessing disguised as a curse or a curse disguised as a blessing, but he and Regina didn't run into anybody after that whole fiasco in the woods. On one hand, he wasn't exactly in the mood for dealing with crazy shit. If Amber stayed with them and wouldn't stop acting like she had multiple personality disorder, he swore that he would've snapped at her at some point. On the other hand, though, it just made him a bit more worried about his other friends. Sure, the island's big and all, but he figured that he would've ran into at least one person.

Well, at least he seemed to be cheering Regina up. He knew that he was doing that right. Why would he just up and leave her?

Still, Matthew just wanted to lie down and rest. He thankfully got that, even if it was for a few hours. The umbrella did a half-decent job of shielding him and Regina from the heat of the sun after they woke up, but it was still a bit too hot for his liking. His red hoodie was making him practically sweat to death, so he had to take it off and stuff it into his bag, revealing his short-sleeved blue shirt.

He couldn't help but notice the dark clouds in the distance as they walked, threatening to rain if it were to reach them. Who knows, maybe it'll be a slight improvement. The clouds can block the sun and make it a few degrees lower.

Even if it did, it wouldn't really help much due to all the walking he and Regina were doing. He took a sip out of the now half-empty bottle of water as they passed by a building. Regina mentioned that it was a temple of some sorts. It looked abandoned for at least a few years. Neither of them thought that entering it, or any of the run-down buildings really, was a good idea. When they got to the cliffside, he could see a figure in front of him. Regina recognized him faster than Matthew did, and got Collin's attention. He didn't know that much about Collin, but from what he knew? A bit of a dick. Matthew wasn't exactly eager to talk to him after their first couple interactions.

Regina apparently didn't have the same opinion as she seemed to be happy for his well-being. Before Matthew can say anything to either of them, the voice from the speakers nearby spoke to them. The voice that belonged to one of the fucking assholes responsible for bringing them here. It began to speak and Matthew's thoughts were interrupted when the voice revealed the fate of one of his friends.

Abel was dead? Paloma killed her? Why the fuck would she do that?!

It didn't take a genius to see that Regina was devastated when she heard it. Matthew didn't notice as he stared at one of the speakers, listening to the voice mention who died and who killed them.

Toby. Tirzah blew his head open. The voice mentioned something about how it's important to trust nobody.

Tyrell biting some girl's throat out.

Felix. Asswipe Tyrell shot him twice. Two kills in one day.

Violet. Stabbed by Quinn Abert. The fact that they both had Quinn in their name never entered Matthew's mind.

Dante. Apparently sleeping when Blaise blew his head open.

After revealing the fate of one other person and marking the waterfall as a danger zone, that was it. Matthew clenched his fist as tight as he can. All of them were people who he's on good terms with. A couple of them he was friends with, especially. Killed. Betrayed. He'd never see them again. This was the first fucking day! Why are they dead already?! What the fuck did they do to deserve it?!

His mind went to the biggest offenders. Tyrell. He was dangerous. Had to be. Like killing one wasn't enough? No, he had to murder two just for kicks!

A sound coming near Matthew slowed his thoughts as he turned towards the source. When he saw Regina crying on the ground, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness. It was clearly taking a toll on her and hurting her a lot more than it's hurting him.

Taking a few deep breaths to calm himself, even if it didn't help much, he put down his umbrella and crouched down. He then tried to get her on her knees and put his hands on her shoulders and spoke in a quiet voice.

"Regina, I'm here. Don't worry. We'll get through this. We'll get some answers. I promise."

Colin was surprised to hear somebody calling his name, particularly in a voice that sounded pretty happy to see him. Turning around he was greeted by the sight of Regina Petrov and uh… Matt Something.

It was becoming increasingly clear to Colin that his reluctance to get to know many of his peers was really gonna bite him in the ass at some point

“Hey. Yeah, nice to see you alive and okay and shit.” He replied with a nod. The sentiment was sincere, since Regina had always given off a pretty nice vibe (and not the bullshit kind of “nice” where you’re everybody’s friend including the violent dickheads that treat your other “friends" like shit).

He also gave a little wave in Matt’s direction. He knew pretty much jack shit about the guy.

Colin had planned to ask if everything was alright. After all, in spite of him being a generally cool guy, this wasn’t the sort of welcome a guy like him was used to. However, the sound of speakers pulled the amateur critic’s attention away from whatever he might have intended to say.

The announcements were out and the deaths were tallied up, as were the killers.

Nine deaths… it was a lot, yeah. Colin had expected that somebody, maybe a few somebodies, would snap and fuck shit up day one. It was still a lot to take in, though, that this wasn’t some hypothetical game of “Possible Shithead” but a real one of “Actual Fucking Killers.”

The victims weren’t anybody Colin knew particularly well. Still, it felt fucked to think of the unassuming no-name faces he passed everyday might now be stuck on a corpse. Made him shiver a bit.

Regina, on the other hand, was not taking the news quite so well, going right to the ground and crying. It was a pretty understandable, if slightly over-the-top response. They’d been on this hellish deathtrap of an island for, like, a day now. When does that sink into your brain?

Luckily, Matt seemed to be handling the situation a bit better, trying to comfort the girl. So yeah, he seemed to be an alright sort too, probably.

“So, you guys knew some of the people that the fucker was talking about?” Colin cut into the little therapy session, though he did try to keep his tone a bit less abrasive than usual. He didn’t want to just, you know, ignore the obvious human suffering on display before him, but he was still thinking about the killers the announcements had called out.

((Faith Clementine Marshal-Mackenzie continued from Motherless Child))

Faith had been walking since the sun clipped over the horizon, it wasn’t like she’d had a good night’s sleep in the first place, and she certainly didn’t have anything better to do. She hadn’t thought to look at the map she’d had once before, so she’d stuck to the coast she slept on, not wanting to get lost in the green hell that blocked her from seeing the rest of the island. She’d stopped peering towards that, squinting to try and make out if the movement was people, or just the wind. She didn’t exactly have much more to look at, so she ended up just staring at the ground a few steps in front of her, as if she was worried it was going to fall away under her feet.

Given how things had gone so far, that seemed more than likely.

Her head snapped up as she heard a voice close to her, before realising where it was coming from, before the voice began to grow familiar. It was likely coming from a camera, somewhere, that seemed like the obvious place to put a speaker. There was an urge to not pay attention to it, and she kept walking, away from wherever it was coming from. She didn’t want to hear his smug fucking voice any longer.

The voice followed her though, and she stopped as she heard the first name called out. Abel. The person she’d gone to the Whitehouse with along with everyone else, who’d always been there for her, much as she’d been there for him. They’d been friends for as long as she could remember. Her mouth opened a little, and stayed open. She tried to think of something to say, but was interrupted by that same, horrible voice.

Toby too. She didn’t know him as well, but christ, they’d played Magic so many times before. He always had something going on, someone to help, a job to do. Christine, at least, was someone she didn’t know well enough. But Tyrell, Tyrell? She knew he had issues, but fuck, he was Erika’s boyfriend. She’d trusted him, and here he was biting people’s throat out.

Her breathing was fast now, as she stood there, shocked into silence as the words kept pouring out of wherever they were coming from. She began to run, strides weak and ungainly as her muscles hurt, trying to find somewhere where she couldn’t hear this. Faith didn’t want to know. Didn’t need to know, but the voice followed her, getting louder just as it began to fade away.

Beryl. They’d gone shooting together. Names she didn’t recognise again. That hurt too, in it’s own way. Then one that made her slow down, wheezing as her vision began to blur, everything began to feel distant as she dragged her feet forwards.

“Oh- Oh, God.”

Dante. She’d seen him, just a few hours ago. It felt like hours, at least, shit. Fuck. She’d knew not to trust Blaise. Everything Ivy had said about Blaise was right. Faith had left Dante with that bitch. Thinking things would be okay, thinking she could just find her other friends, get them together and…

“I- I’m so sorry.”

Faith had killed him as much as Blaise had.

She stopped, legs shaking as she reached the edge of the cliff. She didn’t hear the last bit of the announcement. She dropped to her hands and knees as she felt an awful, familiar tingle in her cheeks, mouth feeling both dry and wet at the same time. Faith wretched over the edge of the cliff. She would have vomited if there was anything in her stomach to begin with.

Regina felt her whole body convulse and shake as she continued to sob as the announcements faded into the morning air. Abel was dead. Toby, Beryl, Christine, Felix, Yuko, Violet, Dante and Benedict were also dead. So many names. Names she grew up with. Names she sat next to the last four years. Names she had laughed with. Names she had cried with, and endured with and partied with, and studied with and LIVED with. Now they were gone. So quickly, they were nothing more than memories. Their names read off so casually as if their struggles and lives meant nothing.

Why?

Why was this happening to them? Why were these people doing this to them? What right did they have to cut short the lives of so many? It made her want to scream. But she couldn’t. All she could do was cry.

Pathetic.

Matt was at her side. He helped get her back up to her knees, and kept his hands on her shoulders to steady her. She looked him in the eyes, the tears still spilling freely from her own as he spoke to her. Answers? Were there any? She wasn’t so sure. She wasn’t sure of anything right now. Colin asked if they knew anyone from the list of dead. God… They knew everyone. They were their classmates. Their friends. Abel...

“Abel, he… Paloma…” She tried to speak, but found that her voice didn’t want to come, in its stead came only more silent tears.

Paloma had murdered Abel. That’s what the announcements had said. Paloma was a killer. Someone she knew. Another classmate. All of them had been killed by students in their class. It wasn’t as if the terrorists were killing them. They were being killed by each other. Tyrell had ripped through Christine’s throat with his teeth! She couldn’t fathom someone like Ty ever doing such a disgusting and awful thing.

This was a nightmare. She just wanted to wake up. She gripped the sides of her head in her hands and squeezed her eyes shut for a moment. She opened them again, praying it would all have been a dream, but no. She was still here, on this cliff, kneeling in the dirt and wondering how in the hell she was going to survive. A sound from nearby caught her attention, and she turned her head to see another familiar figure.

“Faith…?”

Well, at least Collin had the decency to be civil.

"Yeah," Matthew said as he stood up, "I knew most of them. Abel. Toby. Dante...fucking hell." He crossed his arms and paused for a few seconds before continuing. "Tyrell's a fucking psychopath. How can he justify killing two people?!"

What reason was he going to use? That they attacked him first? That they somehow did something to piss them off? Bullshit! He tore a woman's throat out and shot Felix! Even if he was defending himself in the woman's case...somehow, he had absolutely no excuse for poor Felix. Tyrell couldn't have just left it with one shot to the chest? No, he had to shoot Felix in the head! No matter what the hell happened between them, that isn't even self-defense at that point.

That was murder. Cold-blooded. Fucking. Murder.

Matthew took another deep breath as he spoke out loud, mostly to himself.

"What are we going to do...?"

He heard something close to him, and he turned his head to see Faith on all fours looking over the edge of the cliff. The strange sounds she was making made it obvious what she was doing. Holy shit, was he really having a repeat of yesterday? Considering Regina's situation, it looked like he would have to do the talking for a bit.

Screw trying to calm her down, though. He isn't in the mood for that shit. Letting out a sigh, he walked over to Faith and spoke to her.

"Puking isn't going to make you feel better, you know."

Abel, yeah. One of the school’s jocks. Again, not someone Colin knew, but therefore not somebody he hated or anything. Definitely not someone who deserved… that. Not somebody whose friends deserved this.

Matt made specific note of Tyrell, the one who’d killed two people on his very first day here. It was a pretty fucked thing to do, yeah, going to town on some chick’s throat and then turning around and saying “Mm more please.”

Yeah, pretty sick.

Unfortunately, if Colin was remembering the right guy, Tyrell was a fucking giant that had, like, seven inches on him. Meant there wasn’t a whole lot he could do to stop a guy like that with his bare hands, even if he was the better trained fighter, and particularly if the guy was packing a gun on him, as the announcements.

“Well, uh, shit. Yeah, it’s real fucked.” Was all Colin could manage to say. The words were sincere, for what they were worth to the mourning.

It was then that Colin took notice of yet another arrival to the cliff, Faith Marshall-Mackenzie. Now, that was someone Colin was aware of, being one of George Hunter’s patented conservative twits and noted company of one Wyatt Carter.

Colin could’ve taken the opportunity to mock Faith for being distressed at what could be considered a microcosm of the way conservative ideology pits the underprivileged members of a society against one another in a fucking struggle to survive. He could have, but Colin was far too sensitive a soul for all that.

“Hey, dingus! You alright?” he called out to the new arrival, making no move to check on her or help.

Faith turned her head a little to the side as she heard her name called, blinking a little as she realised there were indeed other people nearby, beginning to walk over. She pushed herself back up, arms shaking as she sat herself upright, moving a little away from the edge of the cliff. She didn't want to risk falling down all that way. Regina she knew, at least a little bit, though mostly by proxy than directly. The other two were people she only vaguely recognised. Matthew, the fat shit that he was, seemed to be taking this all in his stride. Just walking up to her and in so many words telling her to get over it. Her expression soured as she glared back at him, silently. Yeah, just stop puking, and just feel better. Feel better about the fact that her friends were dead.

Easy to say when you didn't have any friends, right?

Then Colin, another person she knew by reputation alone, decided to chime in too. Standing about as far as he could away from her, along with Regina, just observing her from a distance like she was a zoo exhibit. Asking the dumbest question in the world, as he stood there, purple streaked hair flowing in the sea breaze.

"Oh, fuck off!" she snapped back at Matthew, her attention returning to him, expression taut with annoyance. Her breathing was still a little ragged as she turned her eyes back towards where Colin and Regina were standing, and kept going. "And fuck you too, Colin, of course I'm not fucking okay!" Faith's voice cracked a little once she reached the word "course", pitch warbling a little.

If Faith had thought of all the words before saying them, she'd have noted that it all sounded better in her head, as she wiped her nose and eyes with the back of her hand.

Regina watched from the ground as Matt approached the dry-heaving form of Faith Marshall-Mackenzie. Regina felt just the same. As if her body was rejecting what was going on in their world. Attempting to expel all the sorrow and agony it could before it was too late and she was drowning in it. Before she lost what little bit of hope and light she had left inside her and everything was consumed by the darkness of this island. Faith was no doubt the same. Reeling from the news that people they knew and cared about were capable of such atrocities. The world felt more frightening now than ever before.

Matt’s attempt of helping Faith was laughable at best, and downright mean at worst. Yes, she knew Faith’s ideals weren’t everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, she herself was against much of what Faith and her friends touted as their political and fiscal ideologies. But… What did any of that matter right now? Right here? Colin, too, seemed to address Faith in an awful way, and Regina bit her bottom lip in frustration.

Nothing they left behind in Chattanooga was important right now. Who cared about petty rivalries? About political disagreements? Social standing? Economic situation? Cliques? Teams? Religions?

None of it mattered because here they were all just terrified kids trapped far away from home with almost certain death on the horizon for all of them.

Regina stood herself up shakily. Faith cursed at the boys for their insensitivity. Regina felt her heart break when she heard the slight crack in Faith’s voice and facade. She was hurting. Regina understood. She was hurting too. But somehow… somehow she felt something start to build up inside of her. Regina wiped away her tears and marched over to Faith, pushing past Matt and falling to her knees in front of the other girl, a look of fierce determination on her face.

“I know it hurts. Abel was important to both of us… The others too. They were important. Every single one of them.” She looked down, her face twisted in pain for a moment before returning her gaze to Faith’s eyes, fresh wetness from the tears she was holding back shimmering just above the surface.

“But we’re still here. We’re alive.” She grabbed Faith’s hand in her own and squeezed it in reassurance.

“An goddammit that means something. It has to!” Her voice broke a bit and her shoulders shook, but she did her best to stay strong.

“We can’t give up now, right?”

Faith's predictably pissed over what Matthew said. That isn't really surprising. What was he expecting, for her to suddenly agree with him?

"And the sky is blue..." he mumbled under his breath when she told Colin in no uncertain terms that she wasn't alright. Did she really need to get pissy with him for being concerned about her health? At least for Matthew, he wasn't exactly being nice about what he said. Colin simply asked if she was alright. What was wrong with that?

Before Matthew could add on to what he said, Regina surprisingly got to work with offering encouraging words to Faith. Wasn't she crying just a minute ago? He quickly remembered the events of yesterday, how Regina was quick to act when she saw Drew and Amber. Now, despite being practically broken, she rushed to Faith's aid. It forced him to suppress a smile.

The memory quickly shifted to the bad parts of it and soured his mood. Still, he should probably try to get off of Faith's shit list or lower his spot on it at the very least. Better to have people with him rather than against him.

"Sorry," he said, raising his hands, "I'm not exactly in the best of moods after what happened yesterday." He was about to clarify before deciding to keep his mouth shut. If Faith really wanted to know about it, she could ask.

Walking a bit closer to the two girls, he spoke again.

"I meant that you shouldn't make yourself suffer over what happened. It isn't your fault. I can tell you right now, though, that it's going to get a hell of a lot worse from here. The body count is going to get higher and higher until only one person remains."

He paused for a second before opening his mouth without putting any thought into what he was going to say.

"But if you really want to give up and don't have a gun...well...the cliff's an option."

Yeah, turned out that real loss really took the fun out of being snippy with dickheads. That was the real crime here, being robbed of the schadenfreude inherent in seeing self-absorbed airheads implode on themselves due to their problems being entirely legitimate.

Actually, the real tragedy was still the kidnapping and murder.

Still, Regina seemed keen to smooth things over and help out with Faith’s whole business, which Colin was actually pretty grateful for. He wasn’t in the mood to dunk on Faith and he wasn’t exactly the “gentle touch” sort of guy.

Even Matt seemed to be… trying? He sure was a bit awkward about it. Maybe the guy had a condition or something. Not Colin’s place to judge, if so.

But then Mr. Charm went and said some wild shit.

“Woah, woah, woah!” He began, stepping forward and clasping a hand on Matt’s shoulder. “Let’s avoid being such an asshole that we tell the girl to kill herself, alright?” Colin’s voice was tense, irritated.

Where in the flying fuck did this guy get off? Colin was not a Marshall-Mackenzie fan by any means, but wow!

“Mayhaps you should chill out, before you start deepthroating that foot of yours.” He continued, moving his hand to pat Matt on the chest, expression stern, gaze fixed on the guy before him.

Regina's words rang true, and then hollow, but they were enough to bring a forced smile to Faith's lips as she held eye contact with her. It was Saturday morning cartoon stuff, but there was an earnestness to it, a real sincerity that just made it feel easier to try and accept it than to argue with it. The thought that other people were going through the same thing as her didn't comfort her, but her conclusion was at least one Faith got.

Don't give up.

There were more people out there. More friends she could find. Ways to make this right. That made the smile feel a little less heavy to keep up as Matthew began to speak again, trying to explain himself, calm her down in his own weird way. Then, as he moved a bit closer, Matthew decided to make the exceptional social play of suggesting she commit suicide.

Her initial reaction was just to look slightly stunned at him, as she tried to figure out if it was a threat, or if he actually thought that would work. Or if Matthew just hadn't figured out he wasn't behind a keyboard, and someone could punch him square in the mouth, if they really wanted to. Which was a nice mental image. Before her expression could relay her rising internal frustration though, Colin decided to step in for her, capping it off with a pointed remark.

"Thanks." she said, slightly more wearily, mentally but not verbally excluding Matthew from her well wishes.

Looking at the two of them squared up against one another reminded her of the scene she'd seen by the pier, from a distance, two people physically confronting each other. Faith had seen how that had ended, with one dead and the other running past her, covered in blood.

"I, uh, I'm sorry too. For cussing you out like that." it was a laboured apology, one that required admitting to a fault that wasn't hers, but an apology nonetheless. Faith hoped it'd be enough to quash whatever hateboner Matthew had for her enough that he'd back down, instead of getting his head kicked off, given that she'd seen Colin in the school gym from time to time, and she doubted Matthew even knew what a gym was.

Regina forced a smile back at Faith’s own. It was hard to keep up, but she knew that it was what was necessary in this situation. If she let herself or those around her fall into despair, there was no telling how far down the rabbit hole of darkness they could all potentially fall. They just had to keep as positive as was possible for now. Even with all signs pointing to giving up being the only logical option in a situation as dire and awful as this one, she still knew she had to refute it. If they gave up now, they may as well already be dead. Like Abel was.

That wasn’t an option. It had to not be.

They had to keep living and carry on the memories of their friends. That was the only way to make any of this wonton murder and sadness worth anything. If they all died now the country would mourn for them, sure. But their families and friends back home would be devastated. Every person on this island had people who loved them waiting on the slim chance they might come back home. They owed it to themselves and the people waiting to at least try.

Matt apologized to Faith, and Gina felt a smile come back onto her face. Good, the tension seemed to be lessening. At least, that’s how it seemed before Matt made the horrible suggestion for Faith to throw herself from the cliff if she wanted to give up. Regina looked at him slack-jawed and horrified. How could he say such a terrible thing?! She didn’t understand why he was being like this. Colin came in and told Matt to watch his words, in his own way, and Faith apologized for her own words fro earlier. Regina felt the tears build up a bit in her eyes but she blinked them away before they could fall.

Now wasn’t the time for that.

“Don’t say things like that… please.” She looked Matt directly in the eye as she made her plea.

“Living is the only thing we need to focus on.” She continued as she stood up from the ground, offering a hand to Faith as she did to help the other girl up.

“We have to help keep each other sane. Otherwise... “ She trailed off and bit her bottom lip in frustration.

“I don’t even want to think about otherwise.”
