Ice Cold Night

((Mitsuko Souma continued from The Worst Game in History))

A lonely wind blew through the slowly fading woods ascending the mountains, as the beating of soft soled shoes careened through the dense undergrowth littering Mitsuko Souma's path. Her chest was whipped with branches as she blazed her trail through the woods, stopping only now and then to unravel her ensnared foot from a stray branch. “Shit!” she would mutter quietly, untangling her trainer for the third time in ten minutes.

Finally, she had conquered the peak of the mountain, the moon shining brightly, unobstructed; the sweat glistening down Mitsuko's forehead was illuminated by its light. Below the horizon, the island awaited her, her classmates no doubt running in every direction in search of refuge. Even with the moon so large, it was if an eery cloud blanketed the rock.

Wiping her brow dry with the sleeve of her clingy school shirt, Mitsuko took a moment to survey her surroundings: all clear, by the looks of thing. The mountain peak was all but empty; there was no way someone could've been hiding up here. Plus, the only way someone could sneak up on her was if they came up behind her, through that very noisy woodland. And even if they did try that, who would want to attack poor, innocent Mitsuko? Hardcore or no, the men would no doubt view her as a helpless little girl: nothing that she couldn't play up if needed. The girls weren't any more a threat either: mess with Hardcore Souma? Not fuckin' likely.

Slinging her bag onto the ground, Mitsuko stretched her arms far above her head, breathing in a sigh of relief as she relaxed herself after the long hike uphill; she hadn't have to move so fast for years now, and she was quite worn out by the climb. Sliding off the little bauble down off her neckerchief, she pulled the tight scarf off from her neck and threw it to the ground, exposing her neck to the cooling winds.

Taking a second look around to ensure she was still alone, Mitsuko reached down to her bag, unzipping it with a quick fwizp, she began to dig through its contents. Fat asshole said there'd be weapons, what've they saddled me with? she thought to herself, as she continued pouring through the clutter within the bag, reaching past the provided rations and maps, before finally wrapping her hands around a cold, hard object. Yanking it out, Mitsuko examined her tool.

Switchblade, eh? she reasoned, being no stranger to the object. It wasn't a gun, that was for sure. But then, it wasn't so bad either: small, concealable, and deadly in the right hands. Luckily, her hands were pretty fuckin' right for something like this.

Smirking to herself at her draw, Mitsuko tucked the knife down her back, between her g-string and her skin. Easy to reach and hard to see, it would definitely come in handy in this game. All it would take was one well aimed stab, and there'd be one less player on the island. Only one survives.

Staring up at the huge moon once more, Mitsuko felt a wave of confidence. She'd play this game alright, play to win. For those fucked up men getting off to it back at the school, she'd show them that no-one messes with Hardcore Souma.

After a few minutes of standing alone at the top of the mountain, Mitsuko felt the chill of the icy winds blowing about her elevated altitude. Shivering in her schoolgirl outfit, she wrapper her arms across her chest and re-evaluated her position.

She was standing alone at the top of the hill, with a wind bellowing around her, and was stood upright in a large open space: even if she was Hardcore Souma, it still didn't mean she wasn't an easy target to anyone with a gun and a good enough shot. What was she, suicidal?

Slinging her bag across her shoulder, Mitsuko began to make her descent down the mountain, heading opposite the forests she had climbed up through. Sure: it was noisy, rough, and a crowded route, but at least she'd stay out of sight of anyone else on the island going for the win. Of course, they wouldn't win in the end: not if she had anything to say about it. Only one survives.
