Bella was left rather stunned by the bloody girl’s request for a cellphone, staring at her, mouth agape with no sure answer coming to her. Finally, the girl got frustrated enough that she just stormed out of the store. Though Bella might’ve felt a bit guilty to admit it, the girl turning her attention to the newly arrived paramedics was a relief.

Without any further distractions, Bella remained on the line. She just hoped she would have the time to finish her episode of Riverdale later tonight.

“Yeah, no, they just got here…”

Fred buckled Ximena into the stretcher once she was laid down and started pushing it while Josh buckled Claudia into hers. Both were loaded into their respective ambulances, one paramedic in each continuing their work.

"Fingers? Depends, kid, on if you've got the fingers with you," said Josh wiping his forehead. He glanced at Alan and checked the color of the sticker.

"You're good to stay for the cops if you want. Should be any minute and they charge less for the ride. We got it from here," he said matter-of-fact, gesturing with his head towards the emergency vehicles.

Three more people had emerged from he 7/11, and Rio quickly went up to the first and gave him a once over. Pushing his finger against Stephen's forehead, a blue sticker appeared. He didn't have to walk far before the next one came up next to him.

"Oh, jeez" he said, seeing Astrid's facial wounds. He took out a flashlight from his pocket and shined it in her eyes, looking to see if her pupils indicated a concussion. He soon realized that the effort was fairly pointless.

"Ah..." he said awkwardly, turning the flashlight off. He poked her in the shoulder, creating an orange sticker.

"You wanna call your folks, huh? Well..." He hesitated a moment before handing her an iPhone X and pointing to the ambulance he'd come in. "Go on, git in."

Rio moved on to the last person, Cecilia. After giving her a quick once over, he tapped a finger agianst her hand, resulting in a blue sticker.

Josh emerged from inside the 7/11, having gone to check if there was anyone else, then jogged back to his ambulance containing Claudia.

"You, you, and you" he said pointing to Stephen, Cecilia, and Alan. "You can stay for the cops if you want to, or come if you want to. Next stop: hospital."

"Thanks, you're the best." Astrid mumbled, taking the iPhone and then walking the short distance to the back of the ambulance.

((She climbed inside.))

This is why when people tell me 'Hey John, you're a good guy', I say 'No, I've seen John in a lot of guises and I reject any claims to being a good guy, I see' and in Portland I had a community of people who accepted me exactly as I was and though I didn't know how to take their acceptance, and this song -- most of them are with god now -- and it's called 'Wear Black' ."]

"No. I don't think any of us are doing alright." Stephen sighed, setting down the wire cutters. One of the paramedics came and poked him for some reason, but Stephen was too tired to question it. A huge wave of exhaustion had suddenly swept over him, leaving him wanting to do nothing more than get into a comfortable bed and just sleep for a week.

"I'm coming with her. Uh, Claudia." On closer inspection, she was alive. For now, anyway. He had carried her out of that shithole back there, it only seemed right that he stayed with her. "Where are we going? Actually, uh, where the fuck are we?" He climbed into the back of Claudia's ambulance, glancing at the other paramedic, who looked like he was still stabilising her. The inside was all too familiar.

Closing his eyes, Stephen breathed.

He was alive.

((And that's all that really mattered.))

"Ye. Stupid question anyways." They weren't doing alright, they'd probably never be. Crispy watched Stephen pile in with Claudia. Looked like him, Alan, and Cecilia had a choice if they wanted to ride the ambulance. The rest of them didn't. Because obviously of the individuals who looked like they either had a stroke, had been in extra in a zombie film, passed the fuck out, or looked like they kissed a vat of chemicals would've chosen not to go. Yeah. Durr, I don't want to be patched up, let me rot here some more, it's not like I probably have six different infections going on at once. I'll be fine.

When the ambulance drivers said they would be leaving, Crispy pulled himself up, tossing his empty drink cup to the side. He waved to Alan, and to Cecilia. "Later y'all. We gonna get pumped full of drugs, wear some gowns and watch some Emperor's New Groove. If y'all visit us I'll hook you up with some painkillers or some shit." He smiled as one of the medics gave him a dirty look.

Crispin climbed in the back and sat down. Glanced up at the medic.

"Eh, bet this call ain't the craziest shit you ever seen..."

((Crispy peaces out.))

"You can stay for the cops if you want to," the paramedic said to Cecilia.

Cecilia was an illegal immigrant. Her bag was in the car, and it had a gun in it. She very much did not want to stick around for the cops.

But besides that... she didn't want to be alone. Not anymore. She climbed into the nearest ambulance, and sat down as unobtrusively as possible.

Alan watched as the others all piled into the ambulances, meaning that nobody else would be sticking around to give their story to the cops. It’d be an opportunity, then, to be assured he was getting out ahead of things before Astrid maybe went into questioning and started ruining their credibility with lies.

And if the cops started to press a little too hard, Alan knew well enough to ask for a lawyer.

“I’ll stick around, I think. I’ll end up at the hospital sooner or later.” Alan sighed, looking over at his bandaged right hand again.

He wasn’t going to get the ends of his fingers back. They’d been eaten away by Ray and where’s going to return with some healing. However… that was better than could be said for some of the others.

Alan looked over at the ambulances which now held Crispin and Ximena. Hopefully it worked out.
