The government spooks reminded her of herself and this guy didn't. He was at least trying to seem like a human being. Plus he was kind of old. He was like a used car salesman but classier. Real estate agent maybe. Politician. Elected official. Something.
Anyways, Astrid could tell that he was important, because he was different than all the other guys in suits.
He cleared his throat, asked for everyone's attention.
He told the room that the Attorney General of the state of Nevada and the Attorney General of the United States had decided not to prosecute any of the surviving students for any homicides committed during their ordeals, and that they were all being released from police custody.

Astrid was still McFucking stuck staying in the hospital instead of getting to go home, because the hospital wanted for whatever reason to make sure she wasn’t going to go and try to off herself again immediately.

Astrid yawned and turned over in her bed slightly so that she was facing Jared. She blinked.
Jared tapped his finger against the phone's screen. For a few moments, he stared at something. His brow furrowed, and his mouth curled into a slight frown behind his natural born not-a-real-vampire fangs. He tapped his finger against the screen again.
"THIS, THIS GIRL, THIS DEVIL WOMAN, WITH HER DEMONIC EYES, SHE'S EEEVIL, HER EYES ARE AS BLACK AS HER SOUL! [*table slamming noises*]! SHEEEEEE BAAAATHED IN THE BLOOOOOOOOD OF HER CLASSMATES!" The voice of Alex Jones shouted from Jared's phone.
"Oh okay, that's cool I guess." Astrid said.
Jared was silent. He scrolled down and then frowned even more. His eyes darted over to Astrid, and then back to the phone, and then to Astrid again.

Astrid sat in her hospital bed, listening to the MP3 player Craig had given her.
"So you wanted a hit. Well, this is how we do hits. You wanted a hit, but that's not what we do." She quietly mumbled.
She was then silent for a few seconds. Her head ticked back and forth like a metronome.
