Lilacs and Lolita

You can see the ocean from here. The cliffs aren't terribly high, but it might be a mighty painful fall down them. They wouldn't make a very good hiding place, seeing how they're out in the open, but it'd definitely make a good vantage point, especially if you were lying in wait for someone to pass along the shoreline below.

Matthew's face fell when he saw Jodene limp to the safety of the forest. How could this have happened? They had a plan. They were going to escape. Everything was going so damn well, and now? Now it was all over. Khrysta was dead. The Ice Queen had fallen. What hope was there for any of them if she could be killed? They were nothing, just a rag-tag group of kids. They would never be able to escape from here.

The DJ, the pregnant girl, the rocker, and the reporter.

What the hell could the four of them do? Danya had them right where he wanted them. There was no such thing as escape. That was all too clear to Matt now. He understood. They were all going to die here. Only one escapes.

Corbin fell to his knees near Khrysta's corpse, and matt could only watch on with sad eyes as he mumbled. Neil stood and looked at the three of them. Matt watched him, knowing that nothing could bring back the light that had been blown out with the death of Khrysta. Neil told them all of a plan he had. Khrysta once tried to lead them, now it was Neil's turn. Matt pulled himself to his feet.

"I-I want to finish this. Danya took on the wrong school... We're not going to die without a fight, right?" He asked nervously. His entire body was shaking, both from the icy cold prick of the rain, and the idea of what he was agreeing to.

"I'm still in..." He said before looking up to the crying clouds. They were crying icy tears. How suitable for the Ice Queen's funeral.

Mary stood, agape with a numb feeling. Khrysta was dead, her murder unrevenged and left without a sense of resolution to it. It wasn't that the game itself was bothering her, was instead the sudden finality that had overtaken Khrysta. One moment she'd been alive, ready to lead them to wherever they were going, and the next? The next she was a corpse, just another body to experiment on, or try and avoid.

That was all, really. Mary wasn't upset, she wasn't angry, she was just...numb. Her companions spoke in turn, some feeling that anger, some feeling that madness, and others even sadness. But not Mary. For her, it was just...nothing. When she realized that they were waiting upon her to go ahead and say something, she looked at Corbin - who had sworn to look after her, and just nodded to him. Looking at the others - Neil and Matthew, she just stared at Khrysta's corpse and couldn't find the words to say much of anything at all.

"That's...that's fine, whatever you all want to do...but can we...can we just get out of here? Please?"

It was time to move.

SADD had a group again.

A motley crew at best. A range of students who wouldn't be caught with each other in the confines of their high school. Most would say high school was the ultimate example of Darwinism. The ultimate example of survival of the fittest. In high school, you had to be popular, smart, good looking, athletic. It all depended on what clique you fell into, what mistakes you made. What accomplishments you made.

Here though, it was all a different story.

Here, in the pouring rain. While thunder and lighting lit the sky four kids stood alone. Yet they weren't alone. They were united by a cause. A cause that meant nothing to previous social standings.

There was Matthew. An outcast. Shunned. In high school, how many friends did he really have? Yet he was here. Accepted.

There was Mary. A pregnant girl. A teenage pregnant girl. That was something most kids looked down on. Yet she was here. Accepted.

There was Corbin. The DJ and future film maker. He seemed to be friends with everyone in school, yet at the same time, he would never achieve that same fame the star quarterback would or star basketball player. Yet he was here. Accepted.

Then there was Neil. Neil Sinclair. The punk. The rocker. The guy in the band. He was someone who would drink while he was screaming into a mic. Yet he was here. Accepted.

Leading.

Corbin Arlen felt like they had something here. He was still shook up after Khrysta's death. She was his leader. She kept him alive. She made all the right decisions. Yet in moments she was dead. Now the torch had been passed to Neil. A boy with a tattoo who claimed he could get them all off the island.

Well, what did he have to lose. What did any of them have to lose. Corbin had nothing left. He was up for it. He would either die trying to survive, or die trying to escape. He would rather pick the latter. Though there is the chance. The every looming possibility that Neil Sinclair is right. That he can get them off this island.

With Mary's approval, it was sealed.

SADD was alive once again.

Neil looked at his new allies. His new friends. He smiled and through the rain he shouted, "Ok. We'll move on from here. First things first though."

Neil scanned the area. He saw a camera mounted on a tree. Walking up to it, he raised the stick he had gotten from the shore and swung it. The stick made contact with the camera, and dented it. Neil swung again. THe camera became undone, but was still being held on by wires.

Neil smiled and whispered, "This one's for your Danya."

He swung again, this time the camera crashed onto the ground. Destroyed. Neil shouted at the others.

"Destroy the cameras on our way out! We begin this now!"

Yes.

SADD lived on.

As Neil led the group away, he smashed every camera he passed. It was a slow process. Yet necessary.

Corbin watched as Neil took out the first camera.

Feeling a new sense of purpose. A way to avenge Khrysta's death, he followed suit. As Neil made his way out of the area, smashing cameras, Corbin followed suit. He wasn't about to use his M16 as a club, so he used a small rock he found on the ground. It wasn't very heavy, but it was good enough to bus the lens. Which Corbin knew from his film studies as being good enough to take out the camera. Without a lens, it couldn't see.

So the leader of SADD, and the DJ made their way away from the area. Smashing cameras on their way.

Neil hoped and prayed the others would follow. That this time SADD would stay together.

Matt felt alive again as Neil and Corbin Began to lead them out of the area, smashing cameras as they went. Matthew felt as if he were part of something grand. And in a way, he was. He turned to Mary and grinned.

"C'mon, we can't let them get too far ahead." He said, and grabbed a rock from the ground. He threw it at a camera that was left untouched. It hit the lens dead-center, smashing the glass. He smirked. Maybe he should have gone out for baseball. He walked after the other two boys, intent on keeping with them.
