Galahad flinched as Tiny yelled at him, wincing as his sharp, sudden gesture caused him to nick his arm with the corner of Michael’s axe blade. He was half convinced that the other boy would just pull the trigger and blow his brains out, just to stop him from freaking out. Or maybe, like, to ‘tie up loose ends’ or something equally fucked up like that, because apparently that was the way everything was going right now, this whole situation turning everyone into slasher movie villains.
But the only thing Tiny shot was a question; what did Galahad want?
…
What did he want?
He wasn’t sure he knew.
Or, rather, he knew. But his mind just wasn’t allowing him access to the answers.
It wasn’t to kill, he knew that much. He was barely able to wrap his mind around the fact that he was still, actually, here on… maybe not U.S. soil, but definitely not anywhere familiar in England. The idea of intentionally going around and causing death and destruction to the people he knew and held dear was almost impossible for him to comprehend.
‘Intentionally’, though. That was the rub. Because if he didn’t think there was a chance he’d end up having to hurt someone, would he have kept Michael with him? Wouldn’t he have wholeheartedly agreed with Barry that they could easily wait for the army to arrive and rescue them, without having to fight in any way?
Would he have woken up, accepting the fact that the people around him were going to kill, and that the people he met on the first day might not make it to the third?
The answer was right there in his mind. He just wasn’t able to open the door to see and accept it. Instead, he just looked at Tiny for several long seconds, shaking as he held Michael close to his chest, trying to figure out what he was planning on doing now. He knew one thing he had to do, before… before something happened. One person he needed to find. But aside from that, any ideas he might have had were scattered and soaking into the ground right now. So he guessed he’d made his choice from the options Tiny had given him.
“If… If I was gonna give up…” Galahad said, trying to inject some form of defiance into his voice, trying to act as though he hadn’t just been pleading for his life, not that he particularly knew why, just that if he was aiming to live through this, he should probably start acting like it.
“If I was gonna give up, I’d have just thrown my axe down and let you shoot me.”
His grip on the axe’s handle tightened, thankful he hadn’t referred to it as Michael this time around.

Tiny couldn't help but snicker and smirk a little.
Well, it looked like Galahad did have a tiny bit of balls after all. Tiny felt like that was a good thing and he knew that leaving Galahad alone was not an option for him. He knew that he would be on the next announcement because of what he did to Penny and he knew that people would have their own opinions about him after that. Good and bad opinions were the most likely to happen.
"Well, at least you still have some fight left in you and well, I need a new partner. Don't even think about sayin' no and that you want to travel on your own. I don't want you to lie and say to other people that I killed Penny on purpose. 'Cause if you did and people came after me to make me pay...." His face darkened slightly and his smirk got wider. "....Then I would know that it was you and I would hunt you down to hurt you, Galahad."
And that is a frickin' promise. Not lyin' at all.
"So yeah, I rather we not have that scenario happen and that we can cooperate without you causin' me any problems." Tiny said seriously, his grip on both of his weapons tightened and he was not taking his eyes off of Galahad's face. "You won't get on my bad side, right, partner?"

Oh no.
Galahad’s heart sunk, along with the newfound bravery he’d just dug up, disappearing under his heels and out of sight. He’d only had two things he’d needed to do after leaving the graveyard, and this put both of them into jeopardy. Sure, there was a chance that they’d run into Freya together, but how would she react to a known killer right in front of her? How would Galahad be able to stick with her if she knew he’d been palling around with someone who’d already killed? And, oh, fuck, she had a reputation that Galahad had always considered overexaggerated and slightly unjust, but it existed for a reason.
And, of course, this all made Galahad’s other plan, his plan of just staying the fuck alive, equally unlikely. He didn’t know anything about this ‘program’ they’d all been chucked into, and he didn’t have any great desire in learning more about the barbaric practices the American army enacted, but he couldn’t imagine that sticking close to a killer would do much for your chances of survival.
If Tiny hadn’t been holding a gun and a pitchfork and hadn’t just killed Galahad’s friends before his very eyes, he would have said something about how the announcements would do a better job of telling everyone Tiny was a murderer than he ever could.
It was transparently obvious, then, that Galahad needed to escape from Tiny and never look back.
…
But he couldn’t right now. He couldn’t see a way out of this for a long, long time.
For all his talk about how he hadn’t meant to kill Penny and Barry, it was blatantly obvious he didn’t really give a shit. If Galahad tried anything funny, Tiny would shoot him. If Galahad tried to turn away, Tiny would shoot him. Hell, if Tiny got bored of having a lacky, then he’d probably shoot Galahad then, too.
“No…”
Galahad took a deep breath, and then his whole body sagged, Michael weighing heavily in his arms.
Sorry Freya.
“No, I won’t cause any problems. I’ll co-operate. I’ll go with you.”
But he sure as fuck wouldn't be calling him 'partner'.

"Good, great." Tiny simply said as he knew that Galahad would have sucked up to him in the first place and he could continue to use him if he had to. Galahad was very easy to manipulate if Tiny just acted a bit scary and Tiny knew that it wouldn't work on everyone else unless they were really gullible and naïve. "We should really move on from here. I don't think we want to be around two dead people anymore. Right?"
He now had someone that he could use as a last resort as a meat shield if someone was intent on killing him. Okay, it was pretty messed up to think of using Galahad for just that, but there was no way that he could let Galahad go until he pretty much worthless to him. Tiny had to think of his survival above everyone else that was here. He didn't know what would happen to the winner afterwards but he had to try to aim for that goal even if he had to turn on others to do so.
Damn, this is just what those Americans want from me, isn't it? …I guess I'm playing right into their hands. But it is MY choice to do this. So I have to play their game for a bit longer.
"You should walk in front of me, Galahad. I don't trust you and I don't want you to stab me in the back. So I will watch your back from now on." He said seriously, stepping to the side and he was waiting patiently for Galahad to walk forward.
Tiny was going to follow after him and he didn't even care that he was leaving Sidney behind.

Galahad almost laughed at Tiny’s little spiel. Yeah, he was definitely the untrustworthy one in this situation, the guy on the verge of pissing himself who could barely hold a fire axe. Not the person who had just murdered two people and was now making threats and demands and acting just like the yankee fucks who’d put them here in the first place.
Of course, he didn’t laugh, didn’t say anything, barely even breathed without making certain it was okay to do so, because anything other than that would surely earn him a bullet lodged in his spine.
“Okay.”
That, along with a quick jerk of the head in the affirmative was the only movement Galahad made, before he started walking, heading down towards the town, not wanting nor daring to even glance behind him, in case Tiny took it as a threat or something. God. He’d always been good at following orders, meekly doing whatever other people told him to do, and now that he finally wanted to branch off on his own, leave Tiny behind, and think for himself… he didn’t have a choice in the matter.
Freya would probably be laughing at him, wherever she was. Concerned out of her mind, for sure. But still laughing.
Galahad kept walking forwards, down the hill and away from the graveyard, and it wasn’t until he’d reached the bottom that he realised he’d never gotten a chance to properly say goodbye to Penny and Barry.
