(OOC: *sigh* Better to just let it go this time...)

Madelaine breathed out a sigh of sweet relief as Jacob departed to an unknown location. Even so, chills ran through her as the thought of what might had happened if either Hawley or Amanda had completely lost control. A murder, in front of her very eyes...committed by the people she trusted the most at the moment. Nothing was right anymore....fifteen to sixteen-year-olds, pointing guns at eachother. In an instant, "I hate you" would be translated as "I'll kill you".

And the world continues to fall apart. Not bursting into flames. Not blowing up. But falling apart. Little by little. Not with a bang, but with a whimper.

She was knocked out of her shocked state just as Amanda collapsed before her. Too slow to react, Madelaine helplessly tried to catch her in her arms, only to let her fall gently to the ground, still holding her while standing up. She stared at Amanda in a wordless, stunned expression as the taller girl, now fallen, buried her face into her uniform-issued plaid skirt.

Madelaine had never felt more helpless. Back at home, whenever she saw other people cry, be it fellow students, younger sister, or even parents, she would always know what to do or say to comfort them.

But now, Madelaine was at a loss for words. Looking at Amanda, who was crying right now, she had no idea what to do. No idea what to say. No idea of what she could do to comfort her.

Looking at her now, it made her feel like crying as well.

She gently kneeled down in front of Amanda, feeling her own eyes sting slightly, Gently, though firmly, she held onto the other girl close. Madelaine's face could be seen over Amanda's shoulder. Though her expression was calm and serene, it contorted slightly with what might have been physical or mental pain. Her eyes shimmered slightly with tears that refused to fall.

Had she known exactly the right words to say to Amanda right there and then, she would have spoken. But what to say she had no idea.

She did not say a word. For there was nothing to be said.

Listening to Jacob’s words, he could only muttered to himself lightly that of “though I should have.” And his comment about thought he didn’t expect them to just him (then way bother at all) they didn’t shoot him on sight, and watching him walk away past the corpses of two others he couldn’t help but see a prefect shot in the retreating back of the boy.

Falling against the ground into a sitting position, he found himself once again pinching the bridge of his nose as he lowered his head somewhat and closed his eyes. In all those moments that had past he could have easily pulled that trigger and shot that bastard down.

But even though he had spoke of doing so, he found deep down that he might have couldn’t. Doing so would have let him give up and fall back into the game again… and after that, he could only wonder lightly as too what would have happened next.

Hearing the broken sound of muffled sobs, he reopened his eyes glancing over the two girls as Madelaine tried to comfort the crying Amanda currently wrapped up in her arms. Dropping his gaze again down to his hands resting in his lap, he simply sat there listening to the sounds of the rushing water mixed with his heartbeat pounding loudly in his ears, along with Amanda’s crying.

Their where no words he could say – there where no words to say at this moment, so he just allowed the sounds to consume him and his thoughts for the moment being.

((Sooooorry :P))

As the group shared but a few moments of silence together, Madelaine continued to hold onto Amanda, biting hard on her lower lip in an effort to keep from crying herself. Thoughts and emotions flooded her mind, overwhelming her...somehow she thought she might faint. Perhaps it was the exhaustion from all that running, or from fatigue over the long-term. Madelaine was not so sure herself.

She felt a slight ache, somewhere along the back of her shoulder, but she ignored it for now. Perhaps she had pulled a muscle from all that running. What was that damp feeling along the back of her leg though? Was the ground wet? Or perhaps it was sweat from all that running? Now that the adrenaline was wearing off, Madelaine's suppressed senses were slowly going back to normal again.

She paid it no mind for now, and let go of Amanda, looking her over, gazing in concern at the wound on her friend's leg.

"We have to stay strong," She told Amanda gently, placing her hands over her shoulders. It was easier said than done, Amanda knew that much. But what else could they do? This was not their first encounter close to death, and it would certainly not be their last.

"Let's have a look at that wound," Madelaine said. She looked over to Hawley and called out to him. "Can you help her, please?" Letting go Amanda, she leaned over to reach for her kit, which was sitting in a pile where she had dropped it.

As she stretched out her arm, she suddenly winced at the sudden ache in her shoulder. Was that just an ache though? Or was it more like a sting of pain?

Bewildered slightly, Madelaine automatically reached over to massage her aching shoulder. Perhaps she did pull a muscle...so much for keeping in shape on the swim team back home-

Her fingers met a warm dampness on the back of her uniform blazer. How strange...she could not have possibly perspired that much, could she? How odd....

As she rubbed her shoulders, she wondered about the sudden ache...for now it seemed irritating, and somehow unbearable. She shrugged calmly and removed her hand from her shoulder.

Redness was smeared across her palm and along her fingertips. She stared at it in disbelief. Was this....blood? Ridiculous. How on earth would blood get there of all places-

Now that the effect of adrenaline was more or less worn off, the aching sensation in her shoulder somehow reregistered itself in her mind as a burning, painful sting. Her bloodstained fingertips trembled slightly, as she turned her head with a snap to look over her shoulder. Out of the corner of her vision, she could see a patch of redness on the cloth of her blazer.

Looking at another angle, she saw that somehow, a trickle of blood had somehow found its way along the back of her leg, as well as the hem off her skirt to land on the ground. Now it left a damp, red smear. Her eyes widened in shock.

No way... she thought, her mind numbing over slightly. Her head began to sway slightly as she clutched the newly discovered wound with her hand.

How could she have not noticed the bullet that had injured her? How could she have kept on running without feeling anything at all? How long had she been bleeding since the injury? Just how much had she bled freely and unwittingly while struggling to catch her breath?

OOC: In my defense, though it doesn't matter anymore, the first thing he did was get up and grab the gun, then he started talking, then he ripped it out of Amanda's hand and left.
IC: David's long silence as he kept watch for other people coming was broken by a fit of laughter as soon as the announcement ended. The formerly stoic baseball player was literally doubled over when the three terrorists accidentally MSTed a fanfic over the loudspeakers and insulted Mr. Danya right afterwards before realizing the loudspeakers were on. Of course, he turned serious when Danya said the three terrorists would be put on the island.

"If we can defeat those three." David said when he calmed down.
"We can get them to tell us how to get the collars off. I'd be surprised if they didn't know how to get off the island."

Amanda's tears dried up as the rain did so, and while the sun hadn't come out as of yet, it was a relief to the distraught girl that it had finally stopped with the downpour. The rain had only made things seem worse than they really were. Although, it could be argued that things weren't even all that good anyways. However, as they sat in silence, Amanda was surprised to hear the booming loudspeaker crackle on. However, instead of the menacing Mr. Danya, the voices belonged to what seemed like three, or perhaps four regular-sounding adults, a woman and three men. They didn't seem to realize that the microphone was on and they read aloud from - of all things, a Jacob/Uriel fanfic. As the voices read along, and then - with horror, finally realized that the microphone was on, the transmission ceased abruptly, leaving Amanda looking at Madelaine with a puzzled expression on her face. There was an odd silence for a long while, and then the speaker crackled back to life and replacing it was the sick voice of Mr. Danya. Amanda involuntarily shuddered as she listened to the whole of his announcement, and as he concluded it with his little 'surprise', the blood drained from Amanda's face. No one she knew all that well had been killed in the last round of kills, sans Adam's good friend; which she knew must be tearing him apart, and thankfully, Adam hadn't died either, but these three soldiers that Danya was putting onto the island - well...this was a horrifying new development indeed.

Amanda looked at Madelaine, and then shifted her gaze to Hawley.

Hearing the silence finally break as Madelaine began talking Hawley glanced up from where he had been looking to the ground at toward the two girls, nodding lightly as she questioned him as to looking at Amanda’s wound received during their escape from the hospital some time ago.

Pushing himself up onto his feet he moved himself and his bag over to where the two had been at, reclaiming a seat against the rocks on the riverbed. Though as he opened his mouth to speak, the sounds of voices unfamiliar to Mr. Danya’s came on over the intercom system surrounding the island. After a few moments of reading from the fanfic of choice, probably one of the ones Danya had spoken so highly about earlier… sounds of shock followed as the announcement of sorts was put to a halt.

A flood of silence spread over the area once more before the voice he wasn’t to fond of hearing came on, giving them to usually list of deaths on the island, followed shortly by the new forbidden zones. He letting out a sigh of relief when the river hadn’t been made into one, though as Mr. Danya explained to them what their three ‘presents’ where he felt his heart skip a beat.

He was sending men… not children like them, but men trained to handle situations like this onto the island with them. Hawley’s eyes casting over to David as this announcement ended and he spoke, “Yeah. If we can get them, You heard what he said. Those three are trained military personal… they aren’t a couple of high school students who had never thought about preparing something like this, the most we ever worried about are passing our tests, or training to win that next game. There’s a big difference between them and us; they’re trained to do what we’ve been sent here to do, and know nothing about.”

He turned back to Amanda when she questioned of what they where to do next, he sighing and shrugging lightly. “Continue looking for Adam, and then try to find some way of getting out of all this. But first I’ll take care of your wound, and then we can plan where to go next.” Hawley said calmly, taking a glance off to Madeline noting her hand gripping her shoulder, the odd expression on her face. “Madelaine? What is it?”

Madelaine silently kept her hand over her shoulder to stem the bleeding, maintaining a rather dazed-looking, wide-eyed faraway look that might have been one of either mild surprise or deep shock. Madelaine herself was unable to tell.

She listened in mild confusion to the strange voices in their careless conversation over the intercom, but the pain in her shoulder and the initial shock of discovering that much blood on her hand nagged at her mind. Still, she struggled to pay attention-somehow it was hard to think clearly now-and waited a while, before listening to the real announcements at last.

The death toll was even higher than the last. Gradually, little by little, the entire game was narrowing down to the wire. This she realized with a sickening feeling. This feeling only intensified once Danya explained to them the three surprises they would soon encounter.

She had struggled hard inside herself not to lose hope, not to let fear take a hold on her....but now it seemed that even she was beginning to lose hope.

Oh, what will happen to us now....?

Something flared up inside her. Anger? Hate? Or perhaps, defiance? Madelaine felt it flicker inside of her, an unknown flame not suppressed.

It took her a while before she realized Hawley was talking in her. As though on cue, in a dazed trance, she lifted her hand from her soaked shoulder. With a withering expression, lips slightly parted in rapid breathing, she wordlessly showed him her palm, which was almost covered in blood, stained with dark red from wrist to palm to fingertips trembling.

Hawley continued to watch Madelaine lightly as it seemed she hadn’t heard his words, though as he went to question her again when slowly her far-off trance broke and she brought her hand away from her shoulder, and forward to expose the dark red substance coating the hand.

Gulping lightly, he breathed in before looking to her taking note of her increasing rapid breaths, and the bloody hand trembling silently as she held it out. Reaching out he took a hold of her forearms, trying to avoid touching the wound and hurting her anymore than she already was but it almost seemed as blood loss was starting to take it’s toll from her dazed look.

“I need you to listen to me, I know this my sound… weird. But I need you to do everything in your power to not think about your wound, all right? Think about your favorite movies, books, food, place to visit or your family… I just need you to take your mind off the wound and the blood.” He said, as he moved his hands and took a hold of the blood hand using the sleeve of his long sleeved shirt to remove the blood there.

“The more you think about it, the faster panic and worry is going to set in, when that happens your blood is going to start pumping faster, the faster your blood pumps the faster you’re going to lose it. So please, remain clam for me.”

Moving quickly, he moved sit behind the girl overlooking all the blood already staining her blazer. “Alright, Madelaine, I need you to remove your blazer.” He said, undoing the zipper of his daypack as he leaned over looking toward Amanda. “You think you’re leg will be fine till I get down over here?” He asked, tossing another of the clean shirts he had left in his bag. “Just put that over the wound for the moment, try and see if the bleeding will stop.”

Still breathing heavily, Madelaine looked at Hawley with a slightly unfocused look in her eyes. It was a struggle to register each and every word he was saying, but listening intently to him, she nodded quickly to show that she understood. Despite the current situation, she felt oddly amused. He really did sound like a doctor, or even an emergency care worker of sorts.

Keep calm, she thought inwardly to herself. All I have to do...

Keeping this in mind, she began to unfasten the buttons on her grey blazer, gingerly removing the sleeve covering her injured arm before taking it off completely. As she held it up, her eyes caught the dark stain on the the back of her blazer, darkening the thick, grey fabric into a damp, reddish-brown patch.

Gulping, she set it aside for now and looked over her shoulder, looking to where a bright red stain had bloomed onto the back of the snow-white cotton shirt she had fought so hard to keep from staining for as long as she'd had it. Immediately, she turned away, struggling to keep calm as she moved to a comfortable sitting position, feet tucked in, hands folded in her lap.

"Places.....family, huh?" she asked shakily, trying to smile despite all that was happening. "Let's see...I can talk out loud right?" Despite what Hawley's answer would be, she decided that talking would help keep her mind off of the wound for the moment.

"Umm...." Her mind relayed to her life back in Japan, the life she was used to. "Food....I could really do for some zaru soba...you know what it is? Cold boiled noodles that you soak in this sauce...really good. And um...books? Too many to count...But I like writing too, you know? I was in the writing club back in my old school...we wrote and published anthologies."

If not for the tense situation around her, Madelaine would have been amused. She imagined now that she was sounding as though she was in delirium. But in spite of all that, she seemed to have forgotten about her wound for the moment, all caught up with talking about herself.

"Umm...I'm totally lost when it comes to movies." She chuckled awkwardly. "I had to take care of my little sister, Miriam a lot, so I never went out that much... come to think of it, I had to take care of my parents too. There was that time when everyone in the house was sick except for me, and I had to cook for them, take care of them, take their temperatures....it was kind of funny, now that I think about it..."

"What's even more funny was that my parents were totally in a panic, all thumbs, when I suddenly got this burning fever in 6th grade...Otou-san, I mean my father accidentally burned himself while bringing up hot porridge for me. As for how it tasted in the end...well, he tried, I'll give him that. Even when I was sick, I had to take care of them." She smiled with amusement at the thought.

"But they mean well. They can act like teenagers at times, but...they do their best. Lord knows what they'll do without me...." As she said this, she fell silent suddenly. But rather than becoming tense, she remained calm and relaxed, a smile still planted along her lips.

He watched her lightly from his spot as she removed her blazer, allowing a decent guess, as too how much blood had been lost as a large blossom of blood had bloomed on her back. Hawley’s attention quickly moved from the blood to the hole in the used to be white shirt, and to the shallow hole of dark blood bleeding out.

Looking over the wound he lightly listened to her as she begun talking a loud, going over everything and then some of what he had told her to think about, happy to watch as she slowly began to clam, and her body began to relax.

Going back to the wound, he frowned somewhat as he pressed another of the pieces of cloth to the wound trying to get rid of as much blood as possible, after a moment finally getting a good look of wound through the hole in the shirt. He wouldn’t be able to do anything with it in the way,

“Alright, I need you to push the collar of your shirt down or something… I un, can’t bandage it properly with it in the way.” Hawley muttered lightly, glancing off to the side briefly before back to still bleeding wound.

Turning a bit to look at him over her shoulder, Madelaine blinked in surprise at him, raising her eyebrows. It took her a while to register what Hawley had just said, though this time not because of the loss of blood.

"Huh? ...What?" She said to him with uncertainty, looking down at her shirt for a silent, hesitant moment. "Oh...sure. Just give me a second..."

Just her luck it had to be a uniform-issued shirt. The collar was much too secure around her neck to be removed without unbuttoning first. She unfastened the ribbon-tie and removed it from her collar, setting it aside along with her blazer. Pursing her lips, she began to unbutton her shirt starting at the neck of the collar. This she did somewhat clumsily as a red tinge formed underneath her eyes.

She unbuttoned halfway down, enough to pull the top part of the sleeve over her now exposed shoulder and reveal the wound at the back of her shoulder blade. She winced slightly as the cloth, damp with blood, peeled back from her skin as well as the wound it had been covering.

Deciding to let Hawley do the rest of the work, she used her blazer to conceal herself a bit, looking down as she did so.

She let a moment of silence pass before she spoke out again, quietly this time.

"I'm sorry....it's just a whole lot of trouble, isn't it?"

He glanced off against as she went about removing the went about getting the shirt down past here shoulder, he shaking his head again as she questioned as he turned back to look at the wound, his face was flushed enough when having to ask the question.

Hawley was hoping she wouldn’t question too much, but really who could balm her when some guy you hardly knew ask you to remove part of your shirt.

“No, no… It’s okay, I’m happy that I’m of some use in this place. I just felt awkward asking that is all, I mean I could have ripped the shirt and made an area big enough to work with. But you probably wouldn’t have liked that.”

Frowning as he looked over the wound, cleaning the blood away again before grabbing at the small bottle of alcohol uncapping. “I, un, this might hurt a bit…” He warned as he tipped the blood, pouring a steady moment onto the wound and pushing the piece of cloth back into it, holding it there for a minute.

“Around the time right before I started high school is when I started reading my parent’s medical books… I thought this would all be useless information intill I graduated and went to medical school. But, I suppose even what I think to just be a way to pass my time could actually come into use before I really needed it, but I can’t complain, I’m happy to be helping.”

Removing the piece of cloth, he undid one of the bandages pushing against the wound, wiping away at more of the blood around as not to have it undo the bandage from it’s place.

“There that should help for now, if your shoulder keeps bothering you it probably because of the bullet… if it gets worse I could always try and remove it, but… let’s just hope this’ll be it.”
