At the familiar tones of every Disney movie opening, the one with the castle forming on a light blue background, someone else had arrived. Venice popped another piece of popcorn into her mouth. She could never begin to understand how the others were doing this, and not just grabbing pieces of the snack by the two arm-fulls. Maybe that's why it was better to only watch a movie with one other person or get a lot more popcorn. Or maybe Venice was just greedy like her parents told her every movie night.

When Bella opened the door, Venice grabbed a quick amount of popcorn into her hand, small enough that no pieces would fall out, and rushed into her mouth. Seeing who it was at the door, Rosemary from the swim team, Venice tried to welcome her in as well as Bella did.

"Herrarahzbrrry!"

Realizing her lack of tact, Venice covered her lips with the tips of her fingers and gave a coy look to her fellow party goers.

"Oh, my...that was rude of me."

This time she gave a proper greeting with a giggle and a hand raise.

"Hello Rosemary!"

Megan smiled and nodded at Rosemary, reaching for another bite of the popcorn. She seemed cool enough, though it was another person Megan never really got a chance to speak to.

Oh well; time to get this Snow White business on the road.

(Post order skipping to get this moving again!)

Rosemary nodded with a small smile as the others welcomed her in. She maneuvered Bella's present and set it down where the others were, before walking to a free chair around the television.

"Sorry about pausing the movie." She apologized, hoping any good times that had been happening before she had shown up were not halted on her account.

As they began the movie once more, Rosemary saw it was Snow White. A classic Disney movie, but not one of her favorites. Thinking back, she had probably never watched the beginning of the movie all the way through before. The parts she remembered best always had the dwarves in them, maybe because they were the most entertaining to her when she was younger. Sure, a prince coming to wake an beautiful enchanted maiden with true love's first kiss was all well and good, but that story was told time after time.

It was obvious in every movie like it there would be a Happily Ever After waiting.

The watched the movie, and time passed until it was around a meal time. Rosemary stayed quiet of her growing appetite, but her stomach voiced her protests for her with an audible groaning sound.

"S-sorry." Rosemary said for probably the fifth time since she entered the house. The clothes, the magnificence of the room- it made her nervous.

(DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK, WE'VE BEEN HERE FOR holy crap almost a year)

Venice ended up lying on the floor, the others deciding to sit on the couch. No room to squirm meant having to bundle up against one another and try not to knock against each other's limbs trying their damnedest to act like they were perfectly fine.

"No thank you."

The movie itself wasn't too bad actually. Snow White was always one of those movies she said she liked when people asked because it was considered a classic, but she ended up enjoying it for real, giving it was just a kiddie movie. At least it was pretty looking.

As the credits rolled, Venice grabbed her brush and began combing her hair, just waiting till the next event of the evening was brought up.

And then Rosemary's stomach let out a roar and an idea popped into Venice's head.

"We should cut the cake!" Venice said, pointing to the table that held the pastry with her brush.

Might as well, right?

The movie was just as Bella had remembered, the songs and music bringing back fond memories of her childhood, bundled between her parents with a mug of hot chocolate and a plate of biscuits. She couldn't help but hum along when One Song started; the Prince was so romantic, even if he was one of the flattest characters ever. Bella wasn't jealous of Snow White, exactly, but she had to admit that it'd be nice to have someone try and woo her like that.

And just like that, the movie was over, the sound of the credits mixed with Venice brushing her glossy hair - another thing Bella felt a little bit of envy over; Venice's hair was so lustrous and pretty, whereas her own, although nice, took a bit too much effort for her liking - and Rosemary's stomach rumbling. The rumble reminded her of the need to actual feed her guests food; they'd been here for awhile, and though the coffee and biscuits had been nice, they were far from filling.

Thankfully, Venice interjected with the suggestion of cutting the cake, which was a pretty good idea. It'd do no good if they feasted on crisps and soda all day and ended up too full to eat the centrepiece of the birthday food. Bella still felt a little guilty over letting her minor disappointment with Venice's gift show on her face. Venice was such a sweet girl and a really good friend, and Bella didn't want her to feel unwelcome in her home.

"That's a great idea, Venice!" She beamed, standing up from the sofa and smoothing out the hem of her carnelian sundress. It was one of her birthday presents, given to her a few days ago by her Aunt Melanie. She'd been eager to try it out, and she suspected that was one of the reasons why her mother had requested formal attire - she would've stuck out like a sore thumb if she was all gussied up and everybody was in more causal clothes.

"There's some sparkling grape juice in the fridge," she continued, moving into the kitchen. "I'll go fetch the bottle, so we can have a toast and stuff before cutting it!"

She hurried to the refrigerator to retrieve the bottle, placing it upon the tabletop before returning to her friends. "I hope this hasn't been too much of a bore," she said, kneeling to pull five wine wine glasses from beneath the liquor cabinet. "If there's anything special you wanna do, then don't be scared to speak up!"

"Voila!" She said, standing up once more. "Now, cake-time!"

Rachael enjoyed the movie. She did have trouble with the forest scene, remembering how terrified it left her when she was a little girl, but she managed to get through it without letting anyone else see how frightened she was. After that, she could just enjoy watching animals do chores and Snow White singing songs about cleaning and her one true love. It was nice.

Once the movie ended, talk of cake began. Rachael perked up at the notion. Cake was her favorite thing about parties. Sure, there were games, presents, and socializing, but cake was always the best. She didn't eat cake a lot, so it was always a treat to have at parties.

Rachael stood up as Mirabella went to get the cake. She hoped that it would be a really good cake.

Rosemary got to her feet as Bella did prep work with the cake. "Uh, we could sing happy birthday to you?"

She did not know if that was still the norm after a certain age. The birthday girl was turning eighteen, maybe it was considered childish, or maybe not all families did that.

"If you want." She added quickly afterwards, showing that it was ultimately Bella's decision as she stood up with the others and walked to the table.

Pouring the purple drink into her fancy glass, Venice heard Rosemary's comments about singing Bella a song. She wandered over to the table, wine cup now held in her

"Of course we'll sing for you! Do the song, blow out your candles, open the rest of the presents, that whole jazz!"

Who didn't want to have the birthday song at their birthday party? That's half the fun/embarrassment! Venice reached back and lowered the lights setting.

"Oh, candles, who knows where the candles are?

Bella gently placed a series of coasters onto the table, arranging them so that everybody would get a place without being too cramped together or spaced too far apart, and moved to fill her own glass. She was glad that her father had purchased a simple capped bottle, in lieu of something corked. That saved them the embarrassment of having to struggle with a cork, only to have it fly off and hit someone in the face. She finished filling her own glass, taking due care not to spill anything onto the patterned tablecloth, and motioned for everybody to sit, before taking her own place. Her parents prided themselves on having first-class furniture - reasoning that if you ever needed to sit down, you ought to do so in comfort - and the dining room chairs were no exception; a set of fine mahogany pieces with soft velvet cushioning.

"Happy birthday, huh?" Bella grinned, tracing a finger around the rim of her glass. "I guess that'd be fun. Just be glad I'm not singing; I wouldn't want to damage your ears."

She tucked away a stray hair behind her headband and adjusted her skirt, smiling at her friends as she did so. It was so nice, just relaxing with friends, instead of panicking over tests and the like. Although, it was sad to think that soon they'd all be graduating, splitting up and going in different directions. One part of her was excited to move in the next chapter of her life, but another was intensely sad that she'd have to say goodbye to people she'd spent such a large portion of her life with.

"I guess we should do a toast first, though?" She asked, tucking away a stray hair behind her headband and levelling her glass. "Why don't we drink to friendship? And then we can get into the cake!"

Bella was feeling pretty hungry by now, and she hoped the cake would satiate the pangs of hunger in her stomach. She was pretty sure it would - her Aunt had baked it when she'd come over, and Melanie was a really excellent cook. The cake had been protected by a thick cover embroidered with felt blossoms, concealing its double-tiers and bright vanilla icing that covered a rich chocolate centre. It'd been dotted with spirals of blue and red, matching the tricolour theme that matched most of the artwork and wallpaper around the house. She'd said that they didn't need to go to so much trouble, but they did, and she wasn't about to complain about her family's generosity.

"As for the candles... I think they're on the cake already? Daddy and mama organised all of this while I was still asleep, so I'm about as in the dark as you are, Venice. The lighter's somewhere on the table, I think."

She laughed again, and lifted the cover from the cake.

Rachael waited patiently as the cake and toast were prepared. She never really did a formal toast before. Sure, there would be toasts for things like Bridget getting into law school, but never anything with something somewhat close to alcohol. She took her seat as Mirabella got the cake ready.

Drinking to friendship. That sounded pretty nice. The girls at this party were all nice, and Rachael could consider them friends. Yeah, that sounded like the right thing to toast to.

Oh, and the cake. It was gorgeous. She would definitely toast to the cake.

Rosemary raised her glass. It felt a little embarrassing to toast, but this was a time of celebration. You only turned eighteen once, right?

"To friendship." She raised her glass like she had seen before in many a movie. Things like this would only happen more and more frequently from now on as they all got older, with a substitution of wine rather than grape juice, and the parties and occasions of them would just keep getting bigger.

She took a long sip from her glass after they all toasted, the bubbles made her stomach do flips all the way down.

Venice raised her glass with the others, laughing softly and smiling as she did so. If Bella wanted to have something as cheesy as a toast at her own birthday, who was anybody to argue?

Ah, and perfect, Bella's parents had put the candles on the cake. 18 little candles, placed in a strategically aesthetic way. Once she had spotted the lighter on the table right next to the cake, she remembered the next thing to do. A few flicks of the thumb, Venice lit the candles for her friend with the lighter.

Waving the last of the fire away and hiding the slight scorch on her thumb, Venice began to sing.

"Haaaaappppy biiirrrrthdaaaaayyy toooo yoooouuuu..."

A wide grin stretched across Bella's face as she and the other girls made their toast, lifting their glasses into the air and sipping delicately at the frothing liquid. A bubble caught in her throat as she swallowed, tickling the back of her mouth, and she was forced to choke back the giggle that formed in its wake. She replaced the glass onto the table, gently setting it down atop one of the coasters scattered about its surface before smoothing out the hem of her dress and taking in the wonderful sight of her friends seated before her.

It was just so nice to have them all with her, doing something so simple and yet so much fun. This was what she'd truly miss about high school, she realised. It wouldn't be studying or doing homework or anything like that. No, it'd be things like hanging out with her friends, enjoying the last few moments of adolescence they'd been afforded. The though that it'd all be gone soon was pretty sad, but for now she was content to enjoy it while it lasted.

She blushed as they sang "Happy Birthday", her grin widening even further as she abashedly glanced down at her lap. She wasn't really used to having so much attention gifted to her, even with being an only child. She didn't mind that at all - preferred it in fact - but it was admittedly nice to have her friends doting on her like this. Their performance was really very nice - far better than Bella thought she'd have done - and once it was over she thought her face would start aching from how much smiling she'd done.

"Thank you," she said, slight tears of happiness dancing on the corners of her vision. "Thank you so much."

Someone told her to blow out the candles and to make a wish and she readily complied, tucking away a stray strand of hair as she bent to send the room into darkness once more. A deep breath and a few seconds later and every candle was out in one big burst - leaving Bella gasping for air for a few short seconds. She wasn't thinking about that, though, or about much else for that matter. The only thing that stayed on her mind was the wish she'd made when she'd extinguished the flames that'd illuminated them all.

Please, can we be friends forever?
