it's kinda hard to say
i'd think that most people wouldn't want to hurt others on purpose
but sometimes people who don't know any better think we have more control over our gifts than we actually do, you know?
no mitigation works perfectly
it's easier for people to blame somebody than accept that it was nobody's fault i guess
i sometimes think that a lot of people will go a long way to try to convince themselves that the world is fair
because it makes them feel bad to accept that some people win the lottery with their gifts and some people just end up kicked in the teeth for no reason
life is just fucked up that way it seems

im not one of those people more than im ok with things being unfair sometimes
it just happens i guess
some people like lily do have amazing gifts with very little apparent downside but i guess thats similar to natural athletes and the like
some people are born with amazing potential and talent but like
they can still burn out and fail and be mortal
i used to have a friend who had a gift that let him go anywhere in the world he wanted almost like as a spiritual projection
and he ended up being arrested for
well you can imagine
so just because someone gets an amazing power or talent with no drawbacks doesnt mean they wont still be you know like
lame and losers and have bad personalities and such
that part is about as up to fate i guess

yeah...
i guess you're right that in the end it matters more what kind of person you are
because you cant control what you're born with but you can control how you treat other people
somehow that doesn't feel as comforting as it probably should
like you mentioned it's up to fate
and maybe that's true
but if someone is just fated to suffer then what's the point?
even if i try to be a nice person, life doesn't really seem worth living if i'm going to have to carry something terrible along with me the whole time
um...

or like thats how i read into our terribad try hard middle schooler conversations
i dont know if i bought into it totally but at the very least
