Ouija Boards Are Definitely Not A Curse For Reality!
Violet was feeling a bit silly when she glanced down at the box that was containing an Ouija board and she knew that it was all just going to be for fun. Gosh, she was thinking about how she should check it out by herself, but then she thought of the horror movies that normally had these boards and how it always ended badly for the main characters.
She let out a small laugh in disbelief. She shook her head slowly and she then placed the box down on the glass table in the living room of her family’s cosy apartment. She got up to her feet and she rubbed the back of her neck under her dyed hair.
“Okay, okay. Just have to wait for the others to get here now.” She hummed softly to herself and she picked up her glass of fizzy lemonade, taking a sip from it and loving the sweet-sour taste. “I’m sure that this will all be just a wonderful time for a laugh.”
Violet was still wondering about her parents who were still out on a dinner date with each other and she hoped that her mom was taking it easy. She was worried that her mom could be too stubborn sometimes and she wished that she would take note of the doctor’s orders of taking some rest before the birth.
Well, it didn’t matter right now. She was going to be hanging out with her girlfriend and a close friend. Princess, her precious girlfriend, and Pineapple, a good close friend. She sometimes wondered how the girls would be around each other. She didn’t really see those two hanging around each other that much.
She was sure that Princess would be fine as she thought that inviting just one other person would make things more relaxing and easy-going for the three of them. This could also be a good bonding experience for them and she was personally looking forward to it.
So all she had to do now - was wait.

((The walk wasn't far.))
It was still a cold night, regardless. She did stood out, because she's the only one outside wearing a parka with the colors of blue and pink. It was like wearing a large thing made out of cotton candy. If the extra cup of coffee was anything, she got the chance to do a good friends' night out.
She was heading over to Violet Quinn's place. Violet was a nice girl and someone who reminded her of her sister's gothic tastes. Quinn was also supposed to bring her girlfriend Princess over. Pineapple knew her. She was in her GSA club, though she did wonder how many people thought Pippi was supposed to be a lesbian.
Whenever she was still given a label, she just put in the "questioning" phase. Did her friends know that her family were polyamorous?
There was a noise of a
CAWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Pineapple saw something in a tree during the walk over. It was hard to see at first, but nestled among the branches, even oddly despite the cold, there was a raven bird there. It was cawing directly at the moving palette of color.
"I need to be somewhere, Mr. Bird." Pineapple said to herself, trying to avoid that feeling that she was completely alone outside. What is a poor bird doing in that tree? The temperatures were still cold. Wouldn't that crow's feathers be shards of ice?
Pineapple didn't thought of it again, since she arrived at Quinn's place. It was in the same place near her own house. The Links had nearly every student living there.
Arriving at the door, Pineapple rang the doorbell. To keep her thoughts of indifference out of her head, Pineapple started to hum. She was completely off-key.
She stopped humming when the door opened for her. A big relief.

'She understood well enough the nature of the task before her.'
'She must set out to regain, little by little, the position she had lost; and the first step in the tedious task was to find out, as soon as possible, on how many of her friends she could count.'
And the night shattered, like a cheap wine glass, around her.
(Princess McQuillan, start)
Current Reading:
The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, Book 2 Chapter 3
It was the nearby, desolately lonely caw of a raven. Then as sudden, the lurching halt of the Metro Transit Line 75. Princess, a feature of mortality as distinct as any other triple coats wearing blob sharing the ride with her, allowed herself to follow inertia as all fragile things did. She slid an inch forward in her seat, then used the rest of the momentum to gracefully hop to her feet. As much as the stiffness settled into her knees would allow.
Ice in her veins, so the contemporary saying went.
It was a long ride from her trailer park- quite unworthy of being a proper noun- to the The Links. Princess was probably the only person in all the Class of 2024 who didn't live in the sprawling mass of flimsy suburban facades.
She gently rested the beatup paperback from the library into her purse, a crossbody brown leather with a gold link chain that was hers after saving for a few months. The purse was almost all her net worth- wallet with her own credit card opened without her mother's consent, refurbished phone generations old- a vault in her name that could be stolen by a vagrant on the streets but not by her own mother, which made it a safer place by far. She held it cautiously like it were her phylactery, two hands and the protection and warmth of her core.
She wasn't entierly sure what it was she was supposed to be doing with Violet and Pippa today. Rather, she didn't know what the goal was. Paranormal Activity, The Conjuring 2, she knew well what she was dealing with from the film images seared into her mind in a higher quality than her own imagination could replicate. Sleepless nights spent dwelling on them, so on. But the parables taught by the horror film genre were generally inapplicable to a reality painted in the brighter palettes. Princess wasn't sure how pretending they were summoning demons would do anything besides making her supremely uncomfortable in her own skin until the sun rose to banish away her nightmares.
She could think of more fun things to be doing with Violet's parents confirmed out of the house for a few hours anyways.
Still, resentment was poison for her own mind and Princess practiced strict sobriety- too many drunks down at Shooters for her to ever be interested. Violet had said it would be fun and history was always proving her right in a way Princess was happy to admit- regardless of how scared Princess got, it was the fun kind of scared. Adrenaline burned smoother than whiskey.
The heel of her boot clipped the pavement leading up the path to Violet's door she could have walked blindfolded and spun around a dozen times. She was sure to be loud enough that it was polite, as sneaking up on a friend was the sort of joke Princess personally didn't think was funny unless Violet did it. Pippa was humming some modernist beat- microtones or something, Princess didn't understand, typical Zoomer content.
"Hello."
She said it just in time for the door to open, and for her pale and bloodless face to turn from neutral to merry hearth when she saw Violet's face peek through the door. Princess recognized the smile her girlfriend could induce in her was probably a bit too dumb-looking, but honestly, no need to save face when it was all Violet's territory anyhow.

Violet felt a sense of relief taking over her mind when it seemed like the girls had arrived at the same time when she opened up the door and she could see that Princess was just behind Pippi, feeling a smile form across her face so quickly. Her heart was beating a bit faster with a rush of adrenaline and she pulled the door more open to let the both of them into her home. Her home was always tidy at best. Her mom was a bit of a neat freak, but she didn't really mind that. She wasn't a germaphobe either.
"Hey, girls! I'm glad that you were able to make it at the same time." She was trying to make a small joke and she took a step backwards to make a bit of room for the both of them. "Come on in! It's gonna be a fun, spooky night."
Gosh, she felt like a bit of a dork for saying that. But she couldn't help that she was feeling excited. Of course, she knew that it was all for fun.

At the door, Princess happened to be behind Pippi. Pippi could give a little nod, when Violet welcomed them both in her home.
Violet seemed interested in beckoning the two girls for a "spooky" night. Pippi knew that Violet and Princess liked to watch horror movies. Pippi herself unfortunately wasn't a fan. If she had to guess, there was the chance that it could be something classic. Maybe Night of the Living Dead or it could be something recent, like that Five Nights at Freddy's movie that everyone was talking about last year.
Whenever Pippi visited Violet's place, it was always neat and clean. Cosy and having warmth. There appeared to be some sort of box on the glass living room table and there was a glass of lemonade nearby.
Pippi took off her parka coat, finding somewhere to hang it up.
"Hope that there's more emphasis on the fun than the spooky." Pippi said, though she trusted Violet enough that she wasn't get absolute spooked to death.

A path she walked between the infatuation and the malaise.
The corners of her lips sunk perceptably when she saw the board.

Princess then relaxed, a lullaby-familiar smell taming the anxious prey animal within her. Violet's parents kept house well, which was more than Princess could say of her own flesh and blood. With a mind to not completely collapsing into embarassing hysterics before the fun had started, Princess hung up her own coat, briefly inspecting the sleeves of the turtleneck beneath for wrinkles or flyaway wool.
"I'll do my best to not let the spook get in the way of the fun," Princess offered. She shrugged in advance apology to Violet, they both knew from ample experience that Princess sometimes couldn't survive to sunrise.
That she'd spend her dying breath with a loved one, at least, that was a romantic comfort. If fingernail small.
"Are we getting right to it then?" Princess smiled at the other two with only a bit of stiffness she could feasibly blame on the cold and not on the lack of familiarity with the one she didn't make out with on a regular basis. "Pregaming the demon summoning might be wise."

Violet was feeling a wave of excitement taking over and she knew that in a way, she was being pretty silly about this. She was just glad to be able to spend more time with the two girls and she hoped that this experience would make them all feel closer to each other.
Violet couldn't help but let out an airy, soft laugh that sounded very angelic. It was pretty funny to have two people were more afraid around. Not that she enjoyed people's suffering at being scared. She just thought that it was cute and that she liked to see what it was like to see how other people reacted. She barely jumped, flinched or screamed at anything horror-like. Sure, she did get feelings of being disturbed, feel intense or uncomfortableness. It was good to have those emotions as it meant that things still had an effect on her.
She moved closer to Princess and she gave her a quick peck on her cheek. A sign of pure affection for her girlfriend. Violet wasn't the best at romantic gestures or touches, so this was the biggest thing that she could do. Normally she wouldn't be this bold in front of another person being that, but she was in a great mood.
"Nothing wrong with getting scared, girls. It's one of the more normal emotions in the world. Being fearful." Violet said with a genuine smile that was not taking the piss and she just liked being honest about what she says. "Hm, hm. Not starting yet. Who wants some snacks and drinks?" She clapped her hands playfully together.

It wasn't until Pineapple looked at the box again was when she realized that it was actually a board.
Princess's comment would confirm what it was. It was an Ouija board. The one that was supposed to be in the movies and horror stories. Neveah would want to have one of her own.
"Is it a good idea to be summoning... demons?"
She didn't think it was a good idea.
Not that she was scared.
Maybe she was a little scared.
Violet gave her girlfriend a peck on the cheek, reassuring them both. Supposed to be normal to be scared. Violet was already offering snacks or drinks. Pippi might as well have something while she was here.
"Can I have a lemonade, please?" Pinapple asked. She shouldn't be having something cold, but she needed something to get her nerves calmed down without resorting to caffeine. She already had that coffee before she came here.
Outside, Pineapple was unaware that the raven that she saw earlier was outside of the living room window, looking in at the trio.

However brief- eye of the storm, past in an instant- the malaise was tempered. Princess was left musing on the little burn left where Violet's lips had touched her icy cheeks, now cheery hearth warmed.
Current Mindworm:
Portrait of a Lady on Fire - "You were right. I am scared."
How sacreligious. As if summoning demons weren't enough... Princess vowed to save the flash of artistic inspiration for a moment of solitude. Sapphic love sinful to summon the morning star.
She squeezed her eyes shut, opened them back to reality before her overactive hormones and imagination burned her hollow.
"Just because it's a normal emotion doesn't mean it's not embarassing to watch," Princess shot back at her girlfriend reproachfully. Princess was taking the piss. She was actually scared, of course, the soles of her boots were still humming with the aftershocks of her fearful quivering. The pouting was just a touch extra- in the metaphorical sense, as the bitchy girl of modern day phrased 'extra'- to play the role of fawningly useless lesbian that needed rescue from her own shadow.
"That said," she mused, moderating in tone. "We'll be fine, Pippi. Violet is an old hand at keeping the evil that lurks in the shadows where it belongs."
She glanced out the window. That certainly wasn't a sign, was it? Princess repressed a shudder.
"I'll get the drinks," she offered before promptly doing it anyways. She knew her way around Violet's house better than she did her own.
