Are private threads in Memories allowed?
Will weapons be the same as in the original, or will they be newly assigned?

Probably four-per until top ten, maybe a five or two thrown in there.
Really good question. I need to double check with Yugi, but my hunch here is "yes" because Memories fill a totally different function than game threads and are in a spot where being private makes more sense/can play out better.
They will be newly-rolled! It'll probably be public, probably later today. Character rolls took ages and I crashed because it was 3 AM, hence the delay.

Okay, so, since we've all got the characters and writing can begin, I was hoping for the official ruling: How old are we?

Probably answered already but I can't remember where. Which version are the weapons going to be pulled from? Like is there a chance we could get a movie edition pot lid or book edition dart board or what really? No preferences, just curious.

Stay tuned for the opening thread!carduinal-cyn wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 6:32 pm Is the Director going to be Sakamochi, Kamon, Kitano, or an original character?
Book with a few bits from other sources to fill gaps/unknowns.AnimeNerd88 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 6:40 pm Probably answered already but I can't remember where. What about the names?
Like in japan people don't call each other by their given names unless they are very good, and they use honorifics such as -kun, -chan or -san. Do we have to use them too whenever our characters talk? Or can we pretend this is an AU where japan is somewhat influenced by american ways of talking?

Generally speaking, Battle Royale is translated to convey meaning rather than precise structure—since most of us aren't fluent in Japanese, we'll already be doing this in English and honorifics don't have a clear cultural translation. The novel basically does this by picking how characters talk to each other—someone being respectful is presumably using the right words and phrasings for that, and someone being dismissive is also reflecting that in their speech.MostlyHarmfulll wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 8:29 pm What about the names?

Which is to say, there is absolutely no obligation to try to awkwardly capture the nuances of honorifics, in the same way there's no obligation to render dialogue in Japanese. If you really wanna, though, I'm not gonna stop you!

How closely are we expected to stay to the wiki/lore of the original characters we're writing for?
What.
Angry, confused, and stuck.
Gonna get around to the fancy character link thing eventually, I swear.

You have a lot of room to work with! Ideally, broad brushstrokes should be vaguely recognizable, especially as impacts other characters (so, say, Shuuya shouldn't abruptly become a violent pariah with only one eye), but we're absolutely not the continuity police and BR has at least three different versions that diverge from and contradict each other significantly. The core concern is having fun and making sure everyone else gets to have fun too!

What is the timeframe for announcements? Are they every six hours? Eight hours? Twelve hours?

Update: realized this was a manga-ism. We're not perfectly 1:1, but since this doesn't have too many game-pace/effect ripples, restored the novel's 24-hours-with-no-kills rule.
In the source material, announcements came every six hours, but for game pace purposes we have taken liberties and extended it to every twelve (a faithful 6-hour timeframe would either slow down and extend the game, mandate midmonths include announcements [which could very wiggly for scene pacing], or see the game end in ~30ish hours. We tried it in PV1 and it didn't go great).

I would like to ping this question because I have the feeling it got forgotten. At least I don't remember getting another answer.MurderWeasel wrote: ↑Mon Apr 04, 2022 7:40 amIt's a regular occurrence but not necessarily that regular—gonna consult on this one and get back to you.MostlyHarmfulll wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 4:53 pm Seeing how we are going by the novel, does that mean the game takes place 50 times per year?
While it is not exactly urgent, some plans I have for my kids might be influenced by how regular the game is. So a definite answer would be cool.
