So Tendo wasn't going to play. That was able to be comprehended and fitted easily into Yoshitoki's mind. Her talk about achieving her dream? That was where he lost her. It was probably just some personal goal, like Yoshitoki trying to find and protect Shuya and Noriko, though her choice of words made it seem... far more, uh, ummmm... he didn't really know how to describe it. Composition was never really his strong suit. Whatever her 'dream' was, it was obviously incredibly important to her. He wondered whether he should ask her about it, but then he just did it anyway.
"Dream, huh? If you don't mind sharing, what, uh, is that dream?" he asked, his tone growing slightly more serious. The curiosity was gnawing at his mind like termites through wood, now. He wondered just how far she would go in order to achieve it.

She had a distinct feeling that she was interrupting something, and also because she really, really wanted to hear Mayumi's deepest dreams and whatever.
And anyways it wasn't like she hypothetically *couldn't* pop out of the bushes and kill the both of them. She just didn't want to. Because other people would kill her. So.
Anyways.
Basically Haruka just kind of sat back and watched from a distance.
(Some internal part of her was horrified that she actually considered popping out of the metaphorical bushes and killing them. For some reason, she felt very un-guilty for that.)
(Maybe because it was a kill-or-be-killed situation.)
(Something like that.)

Mayumi felt a bit embarrassed that her wistful dreaming had gotten Kuninobu's attention. Yes, she really did have a dream, but she hadn't told anyone about it. Not that she could tell anyone about it. They'd probably tell her it was stupid or that she needed to face reality or that it didn't make sense for her. Thus she kept it buried in her mind, a fantasy to fill her senses if school was troubling her or her mom was being particularly awful.
"I..." she began.
Mayumi lowered her gun and hung her head a bit low. She forgot she was holding Kuninobu hostage and that he could attack her at any moment.
"...I can't tell you," she finished. "Sorry, but I just can't say it right now."
Mayumi turned slightly away from Kuninobu, preparing to walk back up the stairs.
"If you find your friends and we meet again, I'll tell you. Just know...it's worth surviving this game for."
She just wanted to get out of there so she wouldn't have to keep dealing with her issues. She could just talk to God about it once she got up to the shrine.

Tendo's new hesitance to discuss her dream, along with the claim that the dream was "worth surviving the island for," really rubbed Yoshitoki the wrong way. She sounded far too wrapped up in whatever she had planned to let it go, and he had no idea what her dream even was. He didn't know how dangerous that dream of hers was, or just how far she was willing to go to earn it.
He took her refusal and her walking back to the shrine as his cue to leave. "Alright, well, good luck Tendo," he called out to her before finally turning his back. He still had his own goals to complete, like finding Noriko and Shuya and keeping them safe. He'd already taken his sweet time at the shrine with Tendo, and he didn't have any time to lose. He trudged back into the forest, hoping that he'd find the people that he was looking for.

Well, show's over.
(Haruka continued in: god knows where.)

Mayumi watched as Kuninobu disappeared. She let out a long sigh. Two standoffs in twelve hours was already proving to be quite exhausting for her. She definitely wanted to get to the shrine and see if she could take shelter inside.
With each step, Mayumi thought about what she said to Kuninobu. About a dream worth surviving for. She had survived two encounters with her classmates so far, but if things were going to progress, they were likely to get worse. She had to think about whether or not her dream was worth surviving for. She could have easily gunned down Kuninobu and taken his gun, then gone on to kill others.
Once she reached the top of the stairs and saw the small shrine before her, she closed her eyes and breathed out.
"Of course it's worth it," she muttered to herself. "It's the only thing that's kept me alive all these years."
Mayumi walked up to the shrined and opened the door. It was a small, square room inside with an alter, not the best place for cover or for hiding for a long term. But for now, it was worth taking over.
Mayumi stepped inside the shrined and closed the door. She'd need the time for herself if she could get into the right mood for the rest of her time here.
