Evergreen Goodbyes
((Adonis Cohen continued from Eau-de-Nil))
Adonis was feeling so exhausted and hungry. He had been lacking on keeping himself fed and he noticed the looks that Declyn had been giving him. Adonis knew that Declyn couldn't see his face because of the mask and that Adonis' body was feeling slightly fatigued lately. He knew that Myles had been worried about his health and he wondered how Myles was doing. Was he still with Ivy? Were they both safe? Adonis knew that he didn't really like Ivy that much but he found himself feeling worried about them anyway.
"Ah, we're almost there, Declyn." Adonis said with a more relaxed tone present in his voice and he was idly holding the chainsaw by his side.
His own hand was holding Declyn's smooth, soft hand and it felt nice for Adonis to just hold someone's hand for a while. This was definitely the calm before the storm.
I hope the manor is a good place for us to be. Declyn told me that he had stayed here before with some others. So it should be a safe place. Right..?
"Hm...?"
Adonis had noticed something on the ground and he stepped close with Declyn slightly behind him. He was sure that he had seen that green colour somewhere before. Wait.... Green hair...?
"Lo- Lorenzo...?" Was all that he could breath out of his mouth and he felt his eyes watering with tears as he was staring down at Lorenzo's corpse. "This isn't...."
Oh, fuck! I forgot about Declyn! Oh no, no, no-
Adonis turned to look at Declyn and he then tried to block Declyn's view of Lorenzo's body. He pushed the mask up and he realized that he had been too late. Declyn had seen Lorenzo. Lorenzo was really gone. Just gone....
"Don't.... Don't look, Declyn!"

[Declyn continued from Evergreen]
He was not a big fan of holding hands, usually, since it tended to turn into a sweaty mess and awkward thoughts like ”Is it okay to stop now?”. The idea of it was more pleasant. Then again, it always depended on the situation and none of them were just black and white but too many colors to process in such a short time. It wasn’t even like they were actually holding hands like romantic partners would do as a token of affection. Maybe Declyn had never held hands the right way before (what even is the right way?) since often when he got closer to someone, the focus was on other parts of his body. Right then, Lorenzo seemed to be simply tugging on his hand in a manner that said that he was ready for this small group activity.
Huh?
Declyn pulled his hand out of 's grasp and complimented the crystal he wore. felt kind of sad that the physical contact had ended, but the adorable smile on the smaller boy’s face more than made up for it for sure.
It was then that he noticed the smile on 's face out of the corner of his eyes, and there was something about it that sent a wave of warmth through his body. He thought it was a cute smile. Declyn’s thumb moved over 's knuckles, feeling the cold metal of his rings in the process.

He’s dead.
[Declyn continued from Eau-de-Nil]
Declyn’s eyes fixated shakily on the blood next to the figure on the ground while his stomach begged to empty itself. Funny since it was already empty. The ever-increasing weight of sorrow sent trembles through his whole body and he kept gasping for air, very soft and slow. The back of his thumb was pressed against his mouth, his other hand digging into Adonis’ arm as he looked over his shoulder before his gaze met Adonis’ eyes.
On their way here he had been thinking about how despite everything, your body knew how to adjust to the new situation. It wasn’t easy, obviously, but now it had already been a week and Declyn was still standing.
Unlike others.
“Wh—What if he is— Maybe he’s just hurt— ?” He moved his hand down and looked at the body again. “LORENZO!!”
But there was no response.

Early morning and an early start. They haven't been to the mansion yet so it'd seemed like the perfect place to start. All Emmett had left was hope. Hope that something would happen. Hope that he'd see Declyn, or Adonis, or Lorenzo, and just... do something right. It's all he could hope for now. If he couldn't do any of that, than at least he could protect Cecil, at least he had something.
One shout, one familiar voice later, would lead to the self-inflicted events that tore it all away from him.
"Lorenzo..." Emmett turned to Cecil as he gripped his gun. "He's mine." He sprinted ahead, turning the corner volley gun raised. That sonovabitch was his, and he was gonna pay for everything he did to him, everything he did to Emil and Sapphire. Everything he took would be paid back in full. Everything was a blur except his target. He saw him laying there, body surrounded by two. "Get away from him, he's-"
He's dead.
Emmett froze. He stared, slack jawed as he lowered the gun. Lorenzo died, and Emmett didn't even know. His hands shook. After everything he did, he just went and died. It wasn't a relief. Emmett thought it would be to see his dead body sprawled out, but it wasn't. Everything he did amounted to nothing. Emil and Sapphire, they died for nothing. They were an afterthought, ripped away for no reason, dying for someone who never even had a chance of making it halfway. It was pointless. Their deaths were pointless.
He looked up at the two, not an ounce of recognition in his eyes. He saw shapes standing by Lorenzo, but he could only see Lorenzo. Did they do it? Did Lorenzo just attack the wrong people and get what was coming to him? What happened, what-
Emmett recognized them. His voice trapped in his throat, he didn't know what to say. Lorenzo. Declyn. Adonis. He found them.
He found them all.
His lips twitched, eyes blinked. He stammered on words that didn't make sense.

((Cecil Salazar Loveless continued from Among the Sef))
Cecil had woken up that morning with the same dreadful feeling as ever, but for some reason, a sort of restless anticipation had been mixed in. Finding Drew from yesterday and meeting Jonathan might've been close to useless at helping him find Declyn, but it gave him...something. Hope? Whatever it was, it gave him enough drive to stand up and get himself to trudge along all the way to the highest point in the island. Despite the fact that he had another sleepless night this time around, he had the closest thing to a positive feeling to have in this situation in his chest as he went on his relentless pace to find the only remaining person in this island that mattered to him.
They were just about to enter the manor, when a loud voice called out a name from inside. Cecil hadn't processed exactly what he heard, but Emmett was there to tell him again. With a look on his face that told him that he meant what he said.
And then he immediately went inside, the idiot.
He failed in trying to grab him back and convince him of at least coming up with a plan, and he was gone before he knew it. He contemplated going after him until he heard his sentence get cut off.
Curious but cautious, he risked going inside to see what exactly had Emmett speechless, his thumb hovering over the button that would trigger his knife to to prove its ballistic feature.
He didn't even see the body first, nor the boy with the chainsaw.
It was pale green hair, and that face he had been missing so much and the tears and he's crying, why is he crying shit he's here he's fucking here god tell me this is not a dream nor a hallucination fuck—
Cecil was probably about to cry, too.
"Declyn?" he called out with a choked voice, stunned as he slowly stepped towards him, only Declyn, focused only on him.

Adonis didn't know what he could have said to Declyn as he was interrupted by the sudden appearance of Emmett and he felt himself wanting to reach out to his ex-boyfriend. But he couldn't do that as he had to stop Declyn from feeling sad and panicky and he couldn't even look at Emmett. He had said some things that he shouldn't have with Marco and now that Emmett was here. He.... He-
He heard Cecil's voice and he watched as the other boy was walking towards him and Declyn at a slow pace. Adonis stepped away from Declyn so that he could be with his boyfriend and he felt a pang of slight jealousy. He knew that he shouldn't be. He didn't have the right and now he found himself feeling more sadder by the second. He knew that Declyn would go off with Cecil somewhere. Maybe Emmett would follow them. Then Adonis would be....
Alone. I don't want to be alone.
He stared back down at Lorenzo's body again and he didn't know why he was starting to cry quietly. He pulled the mask back over his face, his heart was feeling heavy and he knew that he had failed Marco. He had failed Regina. He had failed Tristan. He had failed Myles. He had failed Declyn. He had failed to be good for Emmett. He couldn't even face him and the chainsaw was jerked in his hand a little.
"E....Emmett." He mumbled softly and a soft chuckle came out of his mouth.

When Adonis let go, Declyn felt his own weight wanting to pull him down as if he was evaporating into the air, so insubstantial that he felt not made of blood and bone but of vapor and fog. Talk about an overload of impressions. There was one certain voice that made his heart jump and it could only belong to one person in this case. Barely registering the other, he turned to look at the face that he had missed so much and yet part of him was scared to face.
He fell to his knees.
Fell to his knees as if his legs finally allowed him to rest for a moment, a baffling mixture of pain and pleasure and fear and joy, all running sharply through him at once.
He supported himself with his hand against the floor and physically struggled to get up to be nowhere but close to Cecil.

“A-Adonis.”
There were a lot of things going through his mind as Emmett stepped forward. What happened to Lorenzo turned into a blur as Cecil and Declyn reunited. They were together again, and that left Emmett with Adonis. He wondered what Adonis had been through before now. He wondered how long he was with Declyn. He wondered if Adonis was hurt, if he’d seen or lost anyone. He wondered if Adonis even wanted to see him.
None of that was important, unbeknownst to Emmett. What should have been going through his mind were the many, many blatant hints that things were going to turn real bad, real fast. What didn’t register through to Emmett was the blood, or Adonis’s disheveled appearance. The fact that Adonis couldn’t look him in the eyes was another big clue. The tension through the air like a spring pressed down tightly, or a rubber band stretched to it’s breaking point reverberated through what should have been a happy moment went on unnoticed. The fact that Adonis carried a chainsaw, or the fact that it’s previous owner was a known killer hadn’t crossed Emmett’s mind. Emmett saw the blood on it, and the tallies and the threatening statement drawn on in white marker, but he didn’t read it, he didn’t really see it. None of it registered to Emmett.
Then Adonis put on the mask and Emmett halted, his lip quivering. One last bit of denial escaped his lips in the form of Adonis’ name.
His grip on the gun tightened as he finally put it all together.
Emmett couldn’t stop his legs from quaking as he stood there frozen in place.

Cecil barely registered the boy with the chainsaw as Adonis, and even then he was already stepping back out of the way from the space that will be where Cecil and Declyn finally reunite. The only important thing right now was Declyn, who sees me too, he’s real, this is fucking real, he looks so weak, what has he—
Declyn fell to his knees, and Cecil quickened his pace, almost running before skidding on a halt on his knees as well. His free hand found its way to grab his elbow, shit I’m touching him, I could touch him again, I never thought I could ever—while the other has to be satisfied with his knife being in between it and Declyn’s shoulder.
“Hey,” he breathed out with tears in his eyes and the most genuine smile he had ever made in a week. That's Declyn for you.
It was like one of the heaviest weights had been lifted off from his shoulders, and he had been carrying them all this time that despite the fact that there were still so many things that burdened him to his moment, it felt as if they were all gone once he saw and felt Declyn again. For a moment, he felt as if he found what he needed.
His hand that was on his shoulder became an arm wrapped around Declyn’s neck while his head rested on Declyn’s shoulder in relief, letting himself relax and slump down now that—
“I’ve finally found you,” he whispered.

What the hell was Adonis supposed to do now?
He felt relieved that the mask was hiding his emotions right now. No one should see him in a more broken state of mind. Hahahahaha. What a joke he was. Lorenzo had to get himself killed and now Adonis couldn't say what he had wanted to say to him. Now the only person he had left was Emmett. But Emmett looked afraid of him and Adonis felt a bit of hurt from that. Him...? Scaring Emmett...?
"No one left..." He mumbled softly, chuckling bitterly.
Cecil and Declyn get to be happy.... Happy.... HaPpY…
He looked back at Emmett silently.
"...You were never happy with me, were you? I'm sorry, Emmett."

Being in their own little world made him feel safe. Could they stay there? Just for a little while? It felt warm, not suffocating like the island’s climate.
Before Cecil’s arms embraced him, his smile did. Declyn’s heart exploded. There was a moment where he froze and then his arms swept around him. He held on, squeezing his eyes shut as he inhaled the clean scent and the lingering trace of sweat. He drew in a deep breath. “Hi.” Another breath shuddered through him. Cecil’s hugs were different now. One of Declyn’s hands was buried deep in his messy hair, stroking it, pulling him even closer.
His hug was most definitely different than it was a week ago.
Please, just for a little while.
“Cecil...” Declyn’s lip trembled and he moved his head back. His hand moved to Cecil’s cheek before he rested his forehead against the other’s. “I wish you weren’t here, but... I’m so happy to see you.”

“Adonis? What happened to you?” Why was he like this? What did he mean by no one left? Was that a taunt? Was he with Lorenzo? Did he know?
Did Adonis lose everything too? What’s going on? Emmett was confused. He was confused, and scared, and he didn’t know why Adonis was doing this. He just wanted him to stop.
Was Adonis just waiting for Emmett to kill him? Emmett brought up the volley gun. “Adonis, stop.”
“Please.”

Declyn's hand on his hair was a waterfall of relief thoroughly washing him of all the anxiety he had been harboring this past week, or at least, it felt like it for this moment. For a moment, his body felt like it actually wanted to move without creaking out perpetual complaints. And when Declyn pulled back to see his face again, their foreheads resting against each other, Cecil realized that he had never felt this high before. Losing Declyn, then finding him after losing everybody else...he felt like sobbing at finally being able to rise above to one of the highest points he set out on after so many things had happened that attempted to pull his leg and drag him down.
It was too bad that he will have to fall harder than ever after this.
But in his current state, he was desperate for the person that stood as his solace. Speechless, he can only nod with a teary grin. His free hand that was holding onto his elbow finally slid up all the way to Declyn's cheek to a shaky but reverent caress.
They were both so miserable, and there was so much despair behind it, but Cecil would consider this moment right here as his happiness in this island; being lost in the overwhelming but welcome reassurance that was Declyn's existence. Naturally, he wished for it to never end.
Naturally, it had to end.
Cecil barely registered Emmett's voice calling out Adonis's name before the fearful way he said it. He sensed the dread and trepidation, and he didn't want to look away from Declyn again, but he had to—he's here with me now I'm holding him but we're still here in the island and we have to be careful so what's happening—and realized that the volley gun had already been raised, for Adonis.
For an enemy.
But isn't Adonis—?
A masked murderer holding a chainsaw, disturbingly still with his soft yet bitter chuckles?
"Declyn," he turned to him in controlled alarm. "Is Adonis—" he glanced at him in narrowed eyes, wary and suspicious. "Is he—I mean, should we...we should stay away." Right?

Adonis wanted to tell Emmett everything. But he couldn't let Emmett know what this island had done to him and how it had broken him into a shattered mess of glass shards. He hesitated when Emmett raised the gun at him and he found himself taking a step back from the boy he had loved dearly before Emmett had stabbed him in the heart. He knew that Emmett couldn't see the tired expression on his face and he knew that he was seen as the enemy by everyone there. Wasn't this what he wanted in the first place?
He couldn't even speak. He glanced back over at Declyn and Cecil again and he felt his shoulders slumping down in a defeated way.
I really have no one left. Emmett won't stay. Declyn won't stay.
He stared down at the ground and noticed that he had stepped in some blood. Lorenzo's blood.
"Didn't mean to scare you, Emmett." He was laughing more normally as if it was a bad joke and he was trying to act more like how he was before. He noticed that Emmett had not lowered the gun when he looked back at him again and he couldn't admit that he really wanted to …dIsApPeAr… "I'm not doing so good."
He couldn't even speak. He glanced back over at Declyn and Cecil again and he felt his shoulders slumping down in a defeated way.
I really have no one left. Emmett won't stay. Declyn won't stay.

The tragic tale allowed no pause. It will keep you breathless, if not your body then your mind. The tale of two sides, all tragic in their own way.
He wiped Cecil's tears away with his thumb, returning the smile for the moment it lasted. Being able to look into those deep eyes again, seeing them shift ever so slightly, it calmed him. But the change in demeanor was clear and he followed his gaze and woah that was a big gun in Emmett's hands. Did he have to point it like that? Well, the aura that Adonis was giving off it…
It wasn't good. Not good at all.
Declyn almost wanted to jump back up and get in between them, but that was no solution because of two problems: no energy meant no jumping, and he had to choose some very careful words.
“I think…." He whispered, watching before he looked at Cecil again. "I think he’s gone mad. Insane." Declyn's eyes showed worry and fear as they stared into Cecil's. "I've been with him for just a day, he—he basically forced me away from the others. I felt like a.... hostage. But he calmed down at some point."
Which had not been the end of it. Declyn took note of Cecil's knife and to show him his own weapon, he grabbed his hand and put it on top of his gun on his waist. Just so he'd know.

Emmett cocked his head, hands shaking. He apologized. He’s messed up. Adonis needed help, but Emmett didn’t know what to do. He had to think fast.
“Adonis... Let’s just take off the mask and talk. I don’t know what happened, and I’m sorry, but you’re scaring me.”
Emmett didn’t want to hurt Adonis, but he made Cecil a promise. He couldn’t, he wouldn’t lose him too. Not when everything was starting to go right.
“Let’s just put the chainsaw down and talk, okay? I don’t want you to hurt someone else. I don’t want you to hurt yourself.”
