Chisato knew that Yukie was gone.
She didn't need to hear Megumi's words to know. She knew by how limp and lifeless Yukie's hand felt in her grip. She didn't let go. She couldn't let go.
Another friend was gone. Just like that. Killed by another friend and it was completely crushing Chisato's heart.
She couldn't understand why Kayoko has shot Yukie in the first place. She wished she could ask why she had done it. But it was too late now.
"M....Megumi." She sobbed quietly, trying to wipe away the falling tears from her own face with her free hand.
She couldn't grieve forever. No matter how much it was hurting her soul.
"What... what should we do now...?"
She honestly felt so lost.

Megumi was sobbing. She was hugging herself and sobbing, because what else could she do? Someone that was so kind, such a good person, was dead. She was dead, and she wasn't coming back, and she died right in front of them, and it was horrible, it was awful, and every other word in the dictionary that was the same as bad. She wanted to sit down and cry forever. She and Chisato deserved to cry forever for their friend.
But...but Chisato had a point, right? If they just and cried forever, it wouldn't do anything. Yukie died to keep them alive, and if they died because their crying brought another crazy with a gun, it would mean Yukie would...
No, no! Yukie shouldn't have died-she should still be standing side by side with them-but she wasn't. And she helped save them before she died. They needed to do something-something to show it wasn't pointless-that her sacrifice had meant something. And the best they could do was keep living, and try to help others on this island! That's what Yukie would probably want, right?
But...what...what would they do now, though? Yukie was here, in a pool of her own, Kayoko close by, knife within a foot or two of her corpse. Were they just supposed to...leave them? Let them rot? It was messed up, but what else were they supposed to do? Unless Chisato or Kayoko had a shovel with them, anything like a proper burial wasn't an option. Cremation was wrong too-for more reasons than she could count. They needed to do something...but what?
"We...we should...make her look nice."
She knew it was stupid the moment it left her mouth, but once the dam broke, the words flowed out of her mouth like water.
"Er-respectable. Maybe lay her out, and-and cross her arms, and cover-cover the...holes. She should look...peaceful or happy or...not...not like she suffered. And we could...have a moment to just...be silent..."
Trying to have the closest they could get to a funeral here. It wouldn't be perfect, but...she couldn't think of anything else.
She just hoped Chisato wouldn't yell at her for being stupid.

Chisato listened to Megumi's words quietly and she felt herself slowly starting to calm down, feeling like her brain was starting to feel more clearer. Megumi was completely right. They had to do something that was completely respectable and kind for a dear friend who had been lost to such a violent tragedy. She took a minute to calm her nerves and taking some breathes as a way of therapy. In, out, in, out, in, out.
"Y....You're right. We need to make things a bit better for Yukie. If...If any of the other girls find her here, I..." She trailed off quickly as she didn't really need to say the rest of the sentence and she hoped that Megumi had got what she was trying to say.
Chisato managed to get up to her feet after a few seconds, her legs were trembling a little from the experience of seeing one of her closest friends dying in front of her and Megumi. She just felt like it was all a terrible nightmare that she wasn't going to wake up from. How sad that it was a real reality for everyone that was stuck on the horrid island.
"I saw a few flowers in the area. I can... can gather some of those to make things a bit more nicer..." She suggested.
She glanced over at where Kayoko's body was and the blood was making her feel more unwell by the second. She still couldn't understand Kayoko's reason for wanting to kill them all and she supposed that she never would. She couldn't forgive Kayoko for what she did. She just couldn't. She noticed the gun beside the corpse and she tensed up for a moment, gulping nervously.
She glanced back at Megumi and she needed a moment to think about what to say.
"I think I should take the gun, you should take Yukie's knife, Megumi."

She...she was right?
That...that felt weird to hear. Like-
Wait, no, no off-topic tangents. This is the worst time for that. Just focus.
Megumi's eyes were wide and looking at Chisato, but quickly snapped shut, before she forced a nod.
Chisato would find the flowers. Megumi...
"I-I'll stay here. She...she shouldn't be alone. Not right now."
Her stomach was churning and it made her feel sick, but what else was she supposed to do? They each had a part to do, and Chisato knew where to get flowers, so that only left Megumi with the other one.
She opened her eyes again. The weapons. Right. She almost forgot about them.
If things were different, she might not trust someone else with a gun. She just watched someone with a gun kill a friend. She was nearly killed herself at the start of all this. Trusting someone else with a gun was scary.
"That-that sounds good, yeah."
But things weren't different, so instead, her focus was on another question.
"Should...should we take the other stuff? The food and bags and things?"
More food was always a good thing, right? At least enough to not go hungry.

Chisato made sure to crouch down next to Kayoko's unmoving corpse and she picked up the gun carefully after Megumi seemed to be okay with it. Picking up a murder weapon felt so strange to her and she let out a pained sigh, sniffling a little. She got back up rightly and she glanced back over at Megumi, looking a bit thoughtful.
"We should take everything." She nodded her head slightly in acknowledgement. "We could always give some stuff to people that we can trust... Hopefully."
She gave Megumi an unsure smile and she went off to find some flowers for Yukie.

Chisato picked up the gun, and a thought his Megumi. She didn't know much about the person who shot her. She just knew they were a girl-they had a skirt, and even if one of the boys wanted to crossdress or something, there was no way they could've gotten a skirt so quickly. So it had to be a girl.
A girl with a gun. That was willing to fire and run.
...she wasn't sure she was right, but...it made her feel a little bit better, at least.
Megumi nodded again at Chisato's answer. Even if they didn't end up needing it, if they could help someone else, it was all the better, right?
She finally got to her feet as the other girl smiled at her. She smiled back. It was small, her tears were definitely still visible, but it was something, and that was better than nothing, she thinks.
Once Chisato went off, she swallowed down some air, hoping it would give her the slightest bit of courage. It had to be done, it was the job she had, so she would do it.
Megumi helped Yukie stop staring at the sky.
Megumi helped Yukie straighten up while she laid on the ground.
Megumi helped Yukie cover up the first wound, folding her arms so that her hands covered it.
Megumi helped Yukie unbraid her hair, doing her best to cover the second wound with the loose strands available.
Megumi hoped Yukie would be happy, if she knew they doing their best to make her look respectful.

Chisato managed to find some flowers some distance away from the bloody scene and away from Hiroki's remains. She felt bad about his horrid death and she hoped that whomever his killer was, was not going to get away with it. She had managed to pick up some tulips and daisies. It was better than nothing. She felt somewhat deflated. Like her heart was going to shatter at any moment.
The gun almost felt like it was heavy in her hand. It felt so unreal for her to just be holding.
She couldn't keep herself focused on it. She needed to get back to Megumi and they would have to make sure to keep each other.
She head back to the girls and she slowed down her steps when she was getting closer and closer, noticing what Megumi had done for Yukie and she could feel tears welling up once again. God, it all just felt so... so wrong to her.
Chisato felt herself taking a sharp intake of breath and she knelt down beside Yukie's body once more, making sure to place the flowers around her gently and with a lot of care. "Yukie.... Yukie would have appreciated this, I'm sure. Thank you so much, Megumi, really." She said quietly, trying to keep her emotions under control. "She has always been the one to stand up for us and to always protect us as best as she could... God, I just can't believe... This isn't right. None of this is right at all..."
She went silent while looking down at Yukie with a sorrowful expression.

Should she have done more? Should Megumi have straightened out her skirt, or tried to make her face look a bit more at peace? How would you even do that though? She wasn't an expert on taking care of corpses, and-oh, Chisato was back.
The other girl took in a breath before placing flowers around Yukie. She wanted to help, but she wasn't sure what would be best. Cover the wound more with flowers? Place them all around? Put some in her hair? Would they even have enough flowers for all of those ideas? She felt she was better off keeping her mouth shut, so she did.
Chisato spoke, and Megumi had to fight to keep back the sobs. "It-it's what friends do."
She wanted to say more. Agree that it wasn't right. Say that Yukie didn't deserve this. That none of them deserved this. That this was all horrible and wrong and they all deserved so much better.
But Megumi learned something during this short time here. Sometimes what was best for people was silence. To let them just process everything. But to still be there for them.
So she didn't say a word. kneeling down next to the other girl. Offering her what solidarity she could.

Chisato was thankful over Megumi not saying anything and that she was just making sure to stay close by, was all that Chisato really needed at the moment. She just continued to stare down at Yukie and she felt like her tears were not going to solve anything. She felt like she was just mourning under the surface now. Just having the silence was all that she really needed. It was better than empty words that were lies. Telling her that things would get better. Especially at her brother's private funeral. She was never the same positive, optimistic girl that she had been before his death and now....
Now things were going to get worse and she knew that personally.
She felt like they had been silent for more than a minute and she knew that they should possibly get a move on. She was afraid of other hostile students getting drawn to their area by the loud noises and she didn't want to be there in case they did show up.
She turned her attention to Megumi. "Thank you for just being here, Megumi. I... I don't think I would have been able to handle this without you." She admitted honestly. "We... We should really think about leaving this area as there is a possibility that we'll attract unwanted attention here. I've been thinking about going to the clinic as I want to get my hands on medical supplies..."

Megumi breathed in, then breathed out.
In, then out.
In, out.
It was either focusing on that, or sobbing more, and at this point she was probably better off saving the tears.
So, not a noise left her lips.
Chisato turned to her, and Megumi looked back. She let the other girl talk, and she nodded along, only letting out the faintest "Of course." at being thanked. A part of her thought she should thank Chisato for staying this long, not just running and abandoning her to her fate with Kayoko, or having her comfort Yukie alone. Maybe it was small, but it was something she appreciated at a time like this.
Chisato said they needed to leave, and Megumi couldn't agree more. Between the potential draw of others like Kayoko, and the thought that three people had died among these trees, and she had witnessed two deaths...anywhere else sounded nice, honestly.
"Alright. I'll...I'll get Kayoko's stuff, if you can get Yukie's."
She still needed to grab the knife, after all. May as well get it while she grabbed the other things.

Chisato nodded in agreement over what they were planning out and she glanced over at Yukie's belongings, biting down on her lower lip with an air of uncertainty. She made sure to gather everything that she needed from Yukie's bag with complete care and she felt terrible about leaving Yukie behind. But what else could he possibly do?
She got up to her feet and she turned her attention back to Megumi, making sure that she was ready to leave with her.
"Ready to go..?" She asked calmly.

Chisato nodded, and Megumi moved-slowly, but steadily-to Kayoko's side. Looking at her made her feel sick, for more reasons than the obvious-but she wouldn't think about it now. She had to focus.
The knife was bloody, and she thought for a second to wipe it on her skirt-it already had grass stains, blood would almost definitely get on it at some point-but thought better of it. Instead, she wiped what she could onto Kayoko's shirt, hoping it would be hidden by the rest of the blood.
She was tempted to check the other bag, but decided against it, figuring it would be best to wait until they got elsewhere.
Chisato asked her a question, and Megumi got back to her feet, a murder weapon in one hand, a bag in the other, and her original bag still hanging from her shoulder.
"I...yeah. I'm ready."
