While major medical issues for the island's inhabitants typically merited a trip to the mainland, this small clinic is equipped enough to handle almost any typical injury or illness, and most of the equipment and medicine is still there. The clinic also has facilities suitable for cooking and getting cleaned up, to help support overnight stays.

[[She almost didn't notice the faint smell of iron in the air]]

A part of Megumi was thinking it they should leave already. A part of her thought they would be better off going back to the place with all the houses. Sure, there was a genuine possibility they would run into someone with a similar train of thought, but with the number of houses, it wasn't certain, right?

But another, louder part of her just wanted to rest. Sit down. Either get sleep or spend an hour crying over dead friends. And that part of her wanted to pass out sooner rather than later, and if that meant sleeping at a clinic, so be it. At least it was going to be more relaxing and wouldn't end as bad as the bus trip.

So there Megumi was, next to a tree, trying to roll the shoulder that was getting stiff from the weight of two bags.

"Should...should we just go in?"

((Chisato Matsui continued from Only The Good Die Young))

She could smell the scent of blood that was in the air and as she was looking closely at the ground that was near the clinic... She was pretty sure that she could see little droplets of red. It was making her feel a bit on edge, but it looked like the blood had been dry for a while. If there was another body that they would have to see, then it was likely that they would have to move it. Chisato was feeling a lot of huge waves of exhaustion and she felt like she hadn't been able to rest for a long time.

They could try to have a nap break at the clinic, right?

She was trying a moment to think about what to do next. She really did want to get her hands on some medical supplies as she was sure that she was going to use them in the future at some point.

She glanced over at the other girl by a tree and she nodded. "We should. We need to make sure that there is no one lurking around and just waiting to take us out." She said honestly, letting out a tired sigh and she made a firmer grip on the gun. "We need to make sure that it is safe for us to stay in the clinic for a while. If either of us get hurt at any point... Then we can't leave until we get what we need."

((Shinji Mimura continued from Stood Up))

Inside the building, Shinji Mimura was rummaging through a cabinet, assembling the best medical kit he could manage.

It probably wouldn't have changed anything. There had been no time to even improvise, no chance to do anything for Yutaka except maybe hold him there in agony a few minutes longer. But even the chance might have made Shinji feel better, and one bad situation didn't draw the map for every future encounter. So they needed medical supplies.

He had bandages, a few bottles of pills (some of which he'd seen before in normal life, some of which were more esoteric), a roll of duct tape from a closet just in case.

He was trying not to think about the body of Keita Iijima lying in the building two rooms away. He didn't care about Keita anymore, right? Once upon a time it might have hit him hard, but now it would mostly have upset Yutaka, and Yutaka was gone. So Shinji didn't have to care.

It still felt wrong. Maybe that was why he was sticking his head so far into this cabinet, where Oda wouldn't be able to get a good look at him.

They were doing this. They were really doing this.

Megumi knew that being in the Program meant that, if she made it far, she was going to see bodies and watch people die. She'd watched two people she knew die now. Now a part of her was scared she would find another person dead. Kaori? Takako? Shūya? Mizuho? The possibilities were numerous and that terrified her.

But they needed to do this. At least get whatever supplies they could find there, and if they were lucky rest for a while. Heck, if they were really lucky, maybe they wouldn't even have to see the body. Maybe another person had been like them and found a way to give them some respect after death. Even if not, it still wouldn't be that bad.

She'd already been through Hell, what did this clinic have to offer that could top that?

There was only one other question on her mind, as Megumi turned her attention back to the building.

"Alright...how should we do this?"

Just go right thru the front door? Try to be quiet and sneak their way in? A combination of the two as Chisato does one and she does the other? Any could work, she just wasn't sure which to go with.

Chisato glanced back at the building and she clicked her tongue quietly. They were really going to have to do this and she just had to accept that they run into a difficult situation. Or everything was going to be completely fine! Chisato didn't really believe that. She was more into thinking about the negatives more than the positives lately.

"Well, I could try to check ahead if you feel unsafe about entering at the moment." She offered a kind suggestion politely and then she held up the gun a little. "I could always call for you. Or maybe we can just split up and look in different directions. You could stay near the entrance and I can go further in. Just to be safe, you know."

She glanced at Megumi with a meaningful, small smile.

"Is that good with you?"

The zipping sound as Shinji closed the bag sounded incredibly loud in the otherwise quiet room. The pack now held all the supplies he thought that they might need, but he didn't feel better like he'd thought he might.

It was all so reactive. He'd been thrown off his game immediately, and now he was trying to solve problems that had already happened. He could see clearly that he was focusing on what Sakamochi and the others wanted him to focus on (survival) instead of what really needed to be the center of his attention (finding a way to take the fight to them). And yet, he couldn't accomplish anything if he was dead, and he couldn't trust everyone he met. Maybe he couldn't trust anyone. So he had to be prepared to face those challenges as well.

"I'm going to see if there's some food around here," he said. This wouldn't solve the problem, but it would keep him busy, and maybe there would be other materials he could do something more meaningful with.

And besides, he thought as he stepped back into the front room and again didn't look at Keita Iijima, he still needed a couple minutes to clear his head and reset before he properly got back in the game.

Honestly? Part of Megumi wasn't sure she wanted to be alone, after so many bad things had happened to her in such a short amount of time. It scary, thinking about what could happen.

But it was inevitable though, right? She had been alone when it started. She'd eventually be alone again at some point. Plus, when she thought about it, she could make use of the time. She hadn't looked through Kayoko's bag yet. She knew what would mostly be in there, but getting an actual peek at it would be good. Know what's really in there.

So, with Chisato's question, Megumi nodded.

"I think so, yeah."

She took a deep breath, trying make herself feel confident.

"Let's do it."

Chisato made a small humming noise, nodding her head. Feeling glad that Megumi wasn't backing down and she was proud of herself for not changing her own mind either. She needed to make sure that they could keep their survival in check. She had to try to do better. She didn't want to risk having another Yoshio or another Yukie on her hands. Running away twice had been the biggest mistakes of her life.

She had to be more focused on everything now.

She walked a bit faster ahead of Megumi and she stepped into the clinic, holding the gun in front of her cautiously.

Looking around at her surroundings. Gosh, the smell was a bit more unbearable. The smell of blood was a bit overwhelming. But she had to make her way through it. She couldn't back out of what she wanted to do. She needed to be more braver for herself and Megumi. She couldn't let the both of them down now.

"I'm going to move a bit ahead, Megumi." She spoke a bit more quietly as she wasn't sure if someone was really there or not.

She stepped forward through the hallway, noticing more blood on the floor. Her footsteps were echoing a bit and she was making sure that her hands were not shaking while holding the gun.

The silent clinic almost felt eerie. Almost.

((Oda continued from Stood Up)).

"As you wish."

Toshinori withheld a hmph. Castigating Mimura over his earlier error would have been crass, so instead Toshinori had merely allowed his companion to marinate in the knowledge of his failings. Under the circumstances, there was no way that Kotohiki should have been able to exit that situation not only unscathed, but with a weapon and having slain Seto. That she had done represented a grave misjudgement.

Mimura knew that, and now he bore the weight of it.

Truthfully, Toshinori should have left him. It was hardly as if they were boon companions, and the blunder should have well demonstrated Mimura's shortcomings as an ally. However, Toshinori felt a modicum of... sympathy, he supposed it was sympathy, in the way that one may pity a particularly bedraggled and misbegotten stray dog. Mimura was not intolerable when he did not have a gaggle of girls hanging off either arm. Or Seto tagging along.

Hmph. Seto going and getting himself killed. Really, how incompetent. Had he even considered that others might not have considered him so readily expendible?

Footfalls. The opposite direction to Mimura. Ah. Ah!

Toshinori gripped the stungun and called out hoarsely, trying to be heard without being heard.

"Mimura!"

The warning cut through the haze that had settled over Shinji, Oda reasserting his presence as more than a hypothetical. Shinji's first impulse was to snap at him in frustration at being dragged back, but he restrained himself, or maybe he just didn't have the energy. It wasn't important. What mattered was the intrusion of someone besides Oda, the sound of footsteps against the floor that he shouldn't have needed prompting to notice.

Shinji brought the Smith & Wesson to hand, and turned, moving with quick light steps to see just what they were dealing with. Oda didn't have anything to truly protect them with, which meant that once again the responsibility would fall on Shinji's shoulders.

The air was still, but it felt thick with pressure and humidity and the faint odor of blood.

As he turned the corner into the narrow hallway, Shinji found himself face-to-face with one of his classmates, also armed, and in any other circumstance he might have known what to do. As it was, he was ambivalent, though the gun he held came up almost of its own accord.

The person he was facing was Chisato Matsui. She brought memories with her, some recent (her desk clattering to the ground in the classroom, a hand extended to help her up) and others more distant (ashes drifting over a river, sweets at a cafe after school). So that's why the first thing he consciously did, despite the situation, was nod to her with a little smile.

"Matsui," he started.

But she also brought a weapon of her own with her, and while that was not damning in itself, the specific weapon she held was a Luger P08 9mm Semi-Automatic Pistol.

"...where did you get that gun?"

Megumi didn't respond verbally to Chisato, only nodding her head before the other girl ventured forward.

The silence took over then, as she was let alone. Chisato's footsteps faded, and she was left looking at the three things she held.

Her bag.

Kayoko's Bag.

And Yukie's knife.

She felt ridiculous about her own feelings. Despite seeing the knife used to end a life, it was the second bag she was nervous about. The gun that Chisato now had was probably Kayoko's assigned weapon, but something about it just didn't sit right with her.

When she thought back to seeing Kayoko, hearing what she had to say, she talked about seeing two people die. Yutaka had been shot and Hiroki was blown up. After that, though, Kayoko showed herself to be willing to kill. Had she killed one of the boys, maybe even both of them? Even if she didn't, it wasn't impossible that she had taken the supplies they had had. Weapons too.

She could find another gun in this bag. Or a knife. Maybe something silly and useless, like a pot lid or a teddy bear.

Well, she wouldn't know until she opened it, right?

She unzipped the bag as quietly as she could, looking around at it's contents to try and fi-

Chisato had heard footsteps coming towards her and she found herself freezing on the spot, making sure to keep the gun steady. She had to be ready for anything. However, when she saw the person turning the corner, it almost floored her. Shinji. She didn't think that she would run into him at all and it felt a bit overwhelming for her heart. She felt herself lowered the gun a little and noticed that he had a gun as well. She hoped that nothing was going to happen.

"Shinji." She responded after he said her name with a smile. But she couldn't feel herself smiling back. She felt too sad to do so.

Now he was asking about the gun and she felt unsure about what to do. She could just be honest about it and hope for the best.

"It.... It belonged to Kayoko. She used it on Yukie and Yukie...." She felt like her throat was tensing up and she lowered the gun to her side, blinking a few times. "Yukie died because of her. But Yukie took her out with her. I only took the gun as I thought that I could use it for protection."

She then thought about Yutaka and she found herself wondering...

What if Kayoko had been lying and she had killed him with this gun?

She glanced at Shinji with a hint of sadness in her eyes. But she couldn't find it in herself to ask if he had been there when his best friend died.

So, Kotohiki was dead.

Toshinori was not saddened by the news, but nor was he heartened. Simply put, it had happened.

Assuming Matsui was telling the truth.

Convenient that neither individual could corroborate the testimony. Certainly, Kotohiki could have slain Utsumi and been slain in turn, but so too could Matsui have struck from the shadows, laying low both, or one after another, there were a multitude of possibilities.

Toshinori's hand slowly twisted back and forth as he firmed his grip on the stungun, held just behind his leg and just out of sight, just as he himself remained just by the corner, half in and half out of that corridor. Fool him once...

What Matsui said was, more or less, the right response. Still, the new information was partially horrible. Kotohiki had killed again. Utsumi didn't seem the sort to pick a fight, and more than that she had not yet been announced. This would be a brazen deception even from someone Shinji didn't have any reason to trust, even if he didn't have a way to verify at least part of it.

In this case, from this person?

The Smith & Wesson began to lower. But then it stopped.

They were on the right track, but hadn't that been the case with Kotohiki too? And as much as Shinji wanted to trust Matsui, as much as this story was actually precisely what he wanted to hear, that same perfection made him a little nervous. It was too easy, wasn't it? What if there was more to it?

"I met her too," he said. His eyes were fixed on the gun. "Where did this happen? Was anyone else with her?

"Did she... say anything about what happened before?"

Time bombs. Time bombs. FUCKING TIME BOMBS?!

The paper in Megumi's hand went on about the details of the bombs, how they worked and how to not blow yourself up with them, but she was stuck staring at those first few words.

Time bombs. Time bombs. She could've killed them all. Throw one of them while Yukie and Chisato were talking, and she would've blown them up to smithereens.

Blown up. Blown up.

Just like Hiroki.

Megumi's heart felt like it was beating right out of her chest as she put the paper back in the bag. This was...so much to take in. She'd just wanted to see if there was something else that could be useful, and now she had what could be one of the most dangerous weapons on the island. She should probably feel good about it, all things considered-a powerful weapon in The Program, and paired with her vest, it was like she was the girl who could do whatever she wanted, for once.

But it scared her. It felt more like she was a baby being given a loaded gun. She obviously wasn't, but it just felt terrifying to look at and know she held. And this wasn't even going into how Chisato would react-

...what was taking Chisato so long? Shouldn't she be back by now? The clinic wasn't that big-heck, circling it now, Megumi found that it was kinda small, or at least she thought about it more like a house than where doctors worked. What could...keep her...

Megumi felt her heart speed up again as the realization hit her. She needed to move now.

The window wasn't the biggest, but she was a small girl. She slid through just fine.

She would be noticed if she had to drag around the bags, so she set them under the window, only taking the knife with her.

Quick but quiet-that's what she tried to be when looking.

It didn't take too long. Chisato was alive, thank goodness. Toshinori was here-gross, but it could be worse? And-and Shinji! Shinji was here! Maybe he could help them figure something out and-gun.

He had a gun.

Pointed at Chisato.

Megumi froze before, when she was faced with Kayoko. A girl pointed a gun at her, nearly shot her, and the only thing she could do was step back and trip over a tree root. Because of that, she watched two people die.

This time, her body moved before she could think.

One armed wrapped around Toshinori's chest, trying to keep his arms at his sides.

The other was closer to his shoulders, as a hand went to his neck, Yukie's knife against his throat.

"P-PUT THE GUN DOWN!"
