Moose Egg

The Compound consists of the upper, above ground levels of the titular structure. The outer walls of The Compound evoke brutalist architecture, being composed primarily of concrete, steel, and glass. The building itself is enormous, and box-like in shape, with two floors above ground and two floors below ground. Despite the road, parking lot, and fence surrounding The Compound all showing signs of age, the structure itself appears to be completely intact. On the roof of the structure are an enormous exhaust pipe and a very large loudspeaker, the latter of which can be heard across nearly the whole arena when it is turned on, and is nearly deafening up close.

Inside, The Compound's floors all consist of the same layout, with hallways running around the perimeter of the building surrounding its central staircase, with rooms branching outwards from these hallways and facing the outer edges of the building. During the day, the interior of The Compound is dimly lit, courtesy of the glass windows common to every outside-facing room. At night it is completely dark inside, requiring the use of a flashlight for the average person to be able to see.

Much of the furnishings of The Compound have been moved around and overturned to create cover within the rooms and hallways, but cursory examination shows the most common furnishings being cabinets, flat metallic tables, and plastic chairs. Discerning the purpose of most of The Compound's above ground rooms is difficult, but flat countertops with fume hoods above them are a frequent sight, and some rooms (primarily on the building's west side) possess beds and were seemingly designed for habitation. Shards of glass from shattered glassware and scattered, broken medical equipment is common in The Compound's rooms, but not the hallways.

His forearms did their job. The chair was stopped in its tracks, but he could feel the burden it had left on them. His hands were shaking from it. Worst of all, Kyle could not see thanks to the chair, so whatever Moose was doing he had free reign.

He did not get much time to focus on that when another shot hit him. His left side now. It was the same tactic that they used before back then. Moose was trying to open him up; even if he could not see, he had to know something or another was blocking the hit.

That was all fine and dandy; maybe Moose had some brains when it came to that, but the guy still did not know who he was fighting. He was yelling about a she, wasn't he? It was someone who could at least blind people, that was for sure.

Maybe he could use that, make him think the block was gone. Kyle needed to get that chair out of his hands. Kyle started to move his forearms a little bit towards the left side of his midsection.

"Why won't you just die?," he said without thinking about the implications of it. The chair seemed robust enough but she still was not saying a thing but she still seems to be alive.

Moose took another swing.

The chair went down, just as planned. This time, however, Kyle's arms whipped back, and his hands gripped as fiercely as he could at its sides. When Moose tried to pull towards himself, Kyle's hands were firmly in place, and started to do the same.

Before Moose could go for another swing and use his strategy of hitting her till she was dead, he couldn't take the chair for another swing as Inky seemingly grabbed it.

Moose pulled hard enough with an attempt that he would have the sole control over the chair.

Moose was pulling back, and Kyle answered in kind. Gripping it towards him, and he started to swing it from side to side in his attempt to get it out of his hands. At the same time, he bent his right leg towards his stomach before shooting it out at Moose's leg.

Moose didn't see ink girl's foot coming. His leg was kicked at and Moose lost his balance, partially due to being blinded, partially due to the having an ear ringing, and partially because the ink girl was stronger than he expected.

Moose fell forwards and awkward landed on top of the the ink girl. He let go of the chair and touched the...helmet??? Why did ink girl have something so hard in her face? What is this thing??

He didn't know where to choke her, what was he touching? Should he punch blindly?

Kyle screeched as Moose fell forwards, right on top of him. His head jutting out from under Moose's frame like it was about to be popped like a champagne bottle. His body shook as he tried to shimmy his way out from underneath him, but there was no dice.

Instead, one of Moose's hands found its way to his face and started groping around. Fingers were going up against his beak as if it were a goddamn tower. He wanted to shake it left to right to shake it off, but another idea popped.

Kyle reared back; and opened wide and clamped his beak down on an offending finger.

"Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiaaaaaarrrghhhhhhhhhhhhh"

Moose shrieked as he felt his left ring finger being shot (chopped? stabbed?) off. He could swear he heard a bird screech. Holy shit this was trippy, maybe this all was a fucked up hangover.

Please let this all be a dream.

Moose yanked both of his hands back to his body and he could feel that there was a liquid flowing out of the place where his ring finger should've been and that liquid was definitely not oil.

Oh god, he actually did it

He could feel it rolling inside his beak, the way it was making its way down into his throat. The weird texture to it.

leathery

oh dear god in heaven he's thinking of the texture of Moose's fucking finger

IT'S GOING TO GREASE IN HIS THROAT!

In a violent reaction, Kyle jerked forward and pushed at Moose with his hands while he was busy reacting to the fact his fucking finger was gone.

Moose was pushed backwards, off the body of the ink girl and fell on his back. His body was shaking as he touched the wound and the tears in eyes helped him lessen the blindness of vision.

Well, that's good news at least. He was not permanently blind.

Moose smiled, in an attempt to find optimism.

aw, was he crying?

well, doesn't that just fucking suck you murder happy fuck

Kyle flipped himself onto his belly; before planting both of his stinging forearms on the ground and using them as leverage. Slowly, surely and carefully making his way to his feet. Satisfied, and with a huff, Kyle started making steps towards the door. Uneasy, unsteady steps- compounded by the hurt in his midsection- were getting closer before he slid towards it with his legs shooting up from underneath due to the grease.

He tumbled out into the hallway before crumpling to the floor outside.

Still shaking, Moose searched with his right hand for his bag, while clutching his left one against his chest. It had to be somewhere. His hand hurt.

He was panting and grease began sipping through his nose.

First, he laid there. Just taking breaths.

Then he sat there, staring at the door.

Then he stood, peering from the door into the room at the boy sitting across. Tears and grease mixed and dripped down onto the ground along with the blood from his missing finger.

He turned to walk, but on the off chance he could see, Kyle raised his middle finger on his right hand towards him before sauntering off.

After a couple of minutes he finally found his bag. He couldn't see what's missing when he found what appeared to be a bottle he wasn't sure what to water first: His fingers or his eyes.

His eyes were still burning and he felt like it was uncomfortable no matter whether he had them closed or open. He didn't want to risk and infection on the open wound though either.

Moose just didn't know. He'd never been this close to just giving up. This was without a doubt the worst adventure. They were just supposed to go to the potato farm, goddammit.

Moose sighed, put his head into his neck and poured the water into his eyes, forcing his eyes open by will.

((Alan Melnyk continued from blood in the gutter))

The search for their friends would first bring Alan and Crispin into the Compound. It was a more contained area, easier to search than just roaming through the surrounding wilderness aimlessly.

In the meantime, Alan had been muttering to himself, still trying to piece out how to break the Austin news to Jenelle. He didn’t doubt that she could understand the situation, it was just a matter of getting it across right. Blood, water, all that shit.

Moose would be easier. Guy just needed someone around to stop him from getting in too much trouble.

“Hey! Jenelle, Moose! Anybody around here?” He called out, making his way down a dimly lit hallway, making no effort to conceal his movements. Austin might have proven that he really was a shitbag through and through, but most of their classmates would just be a bit confused, not running around looking for a fight.

At least, that was true for the time being.
