Morning Yearning

(Intro of Sterling Odair)

It was ten in the mourning on Saturday and Sterling (once again) had the whole house to himself, and he decided to do something he always wanted to since he saw that movie years ago.

Listen to Old Time Rock & Roll by Bob Seger and dance around the house in a skimpy outfit after taking a shower. Which in his case was an unzipped brown sleeveless hoodie, a pair of black boxer briefs that hugged him, and white socks. He slid, played air guitar, jumped, swayed, and sang with the music as he made breakfast for two as Otto James watched in only a pair of light blue boxers and socks. He was also wet from the same shower as Sterling. Sterling invited him over when his parents left at seven in the mourning to visit friends, and they’d be gone all day.

Otto was just as tall as Sterling himself and possibly a Norse God. He had short, dirty blond hair that absorbed the sunlight, and light brown eyes. His face was oblong but handsome with a neatly trimmed beard, his complexion was lighter than Sterling’s, and he was just as well built.

They had met on the basketball team in freshmen year, and grown close. After Sterling hit his depression Otto kept asking and Sterling kept passing it off as either “I’m just tired” or “Parents, what can you do?” After repeated attempts and Otto’s insistence Sterling finally told him he was gay (and then bisexual when he found out), and that’s when Sterling found out that Otto was going through the same thing. They got closer and began having casual sex.

Sterling was waiting for the toast to finish to complete the meal (scrambled eggs, bacon, two pancakes for each, and finally the toast) as he felt Otto’s hand slide from his side to his navel, and up to his chest. Sterling turned and met him with a kiss, and they danced (badly) until the old toaster made its horrible scraping and pop. Otto beat Sterling to the toaster, and brought the plates to the table.

They sat close in two chairs that Sterling had placed together at the kitchen table (which was awkward to sit in for the two large teens) and ate breakfast while they talked and teased each other. Talking about the last games (they won by three points, the baseball team won their last game as well) and some of the gossip going around school (the chick who was in The Fivers went all colorful and quit the gang, Odile’s latest high-jinx, and the break-up between Bobby Goldman and Jazmine Johnson). When they finished they washed the dishes in the sink, danced (just as badly) to the next song on the CD (Hollywood Nights), and decided to get dressed and play a game of Basketball.

Sterling had the ball. Bounced it to Otto who repeated the gesture, and Sterling faked right, faked left. Otto saw the first coming, but fell for the second fake giving Sterling the opening to run past him on the driveway and shoot for the net, and made it. Otto applauded the shot and gave Sterling a congratulatory hug. High fives stopped between them years ago.

Now Otto had the ball. Bounced it to Sterling who repeated the gesture. Otto than ran left with Sterling blocking. Then Otto surprised him by bouncing the ball between his legs, twisting past Sterling, catching the ball on the other side, and running to the basket with Sterling behind him. Otto shot and scored. The game would go on for another two hours.

The two boys walked back into the house covered in sweat, and they lost track (and stopped caring) of who was winning ten minutes into the game. They stripped in Sterling’s room, threw the clothes in the washer, and went into the shower together.

They spent the next few hours dressed in Sterling’s clothes while they waited for their clothes to wash and dry. Blasting Bruce Springsteen while playing Super Mario Kart Wii on a refurbished Wii Sterling and Otto (barely) heard the phone ring. Otto, thinking his parents were coming home, went to check the clothes as Sterling went to get the phone. When he saw the load was done he opened it when he listened to Sterling in the other room.

“Hey dad. You two on your way home?” He sounded bored.

“Oh really! I’m glad your having so much fun!” Otto thought Sterling sounded pretty happy for them until he heard him say,

“So you’re coming home tomorrow night? Sweet! Bye!” Otto heard his boyfriend run to the laundry room smiling.

“I assume you heard that.” Otto nodded and caught Sterling’s smile,

“We get another night together.” Otto’s parents had figured a long time ago that anytime Otto went to Sterling’s place he’d end up sleeping over (with out being suspicious in the least), so it was as good as confirmed.

Neither had bothered changing clothes as the night went on.

They changed the game to The Conduit and the music to Poets of the Fall. Otto shot the aliens and saved the world while Sterling had his head on Otto's shoulder and a bowl of chips in his lap while the singer was expressing hope that tomorrow would be a better day. Occasionally remarking when Otto got a good shot, and laughing when someone/thing died in a funny way. They remained this way until they fell asleep.

When they woke up they took another shower together and resumed playing the game (it was Sterlings turn) while Otto changed into the clothes he came in yesterday and rested against Sterling. The two considered playing ball again, but they felt too lazy. Remaining on Sterling's bed until Otto had to go home.

Sterling kissed him before he opened the door telling him he'd see him at school, walked him to his car (a beat up Honda Element. The dream car for tall people), and watched as he drove a way. Sterling walked back into the house to do homework not knowing that this would be one of the best weekends of his life.
