The Wild Hunt

Day 3 night; Three shot

Similar in feel to the Inland lake, this lake also features the smell of the salt air, and the sound of waves lapping against the cliffs and beaches can be heard if you just take the time to listen. The most obvious feature of this lake is the small sailboat that apparently has sunk in the center, a lone mast breaking the water line.

((Bobby Goldman continued from As Cold as Silence))

The strange vision of death with a sniper rifle haunted the back of Bobby's mind as he ran south. He couldn't think of that person as a human being. No one would ever choose to dress like that, much less walk into the coldest place on the island wearing almost nothing. That's crazy! I must have imagined her.

He was still trying to move across the island as fast as he could, but his body just wasn't cooperating with him. His side was throbbing with pain almost as severe as when he got shot that first afternoon. The bruise on his leg was aching as well, hobbling his movements. And for some reason his stomach was gurgling and clenching, giving him abdominal pains which he couldn't explain.

If the blood-painted girl with the rifle wanted me dead, I'd have been shot in the back already. I'm alive, so she's not my problem any more. Shut up, stomach! Odile is my problem. If no one else is willing to track her down and deal with her, then I will. With her attitude, she could do anything. She's a performer, and SOTF-TV is the ultimate stage. She probably thinks of everyone else on the island as her props.

Bobby slowed to a quick walk. He brought his hand over to his right side and touched the place where he'd been shot. The pain flared brightly, then faded back to a dull throb again. Damn, he thought, it might have gotten infected.

The look of grim determination returned to his face as he increased his pace to a steady jog, regardless of the pain.

[[GLD4: Shawn Morrison Continued From: As Cold as Silence.]]

They'd followed Bobby down the slope of the ski resort and through the Open Plains, to warmer, but still cold night time air, but he was still very far up front from them. He had a head start and he was running alone, while Shawn and Mae tried to keep a steady and even pace with each other. If Mae stumbled or slowed down, he had to help her and likewise.

The faint silhouette of Bobby was only semi visible, but Shawn could see that he had come to a stop near one of the island's lakes. That was good, maybe he was stopping for the gold team to catch up then?

They slowed their pace and began to walk to the lakeside with the resting Bobby in view. The surrounding of this lake was different from the one with the fire, but it was still quite a familiar looking place. Shawn could see the pink feathers of a small flock of Roseate Spoonbills prowling the lake shores, under the glow of the waxing gibbous moon illuminating the surface water. Shawn looked at it in awe as he walked, admiring the beauty of nature once more. Absolutely incredible.

Then Shawn saw the picnic tables, the benches and the public restroom building nearby as well, on the same spot he remembered seeing them back on day one. This was the same lake, the same place that Shawn, Zach and Mae had enjoyed a pleasant, uneventful afternoon. Memories of a simpler time, without all the death and the thoughts of killing. It was where Shawn had first came up with the idea of finding Renée Carlson to figure a way out of this. A time when Shawn was shining to the brim with hope. Maybe pointless hope - but still groovy F'n hope man.

It was something Shawn wished he still had more of. The longer time spent on the island, the less he had. But he still needed to hang on to what little he had left. There. Was. Still. Hope. Renée Carlson was still alive.

They were nearing Bobby now and Shawn was ready to speak up, but once again, Bobby had unexpectedly began to run full speed ahead.

"Bobby! wait." TV's Golden couple picked up the pace and pressed forward once more.

(Mae St. Clair continued from As Cold as Silence)

It was almost considered a romantic walk.

It inexplicably reminded Mae of the first time she had ever really talked to Shawn Morrison, what seemed like forever ago, at Madelyn Connor's party. Surrounded by nature, the two walked together, Bobby only a faint silhouette in the beginning of their journey. She tried to ignore the memories of everything clouding her thoughts, how terrible it all was. She tried to focus on now, on her team, on Shawn.

Shawn was what she had now. Zach was gone, her relationship with Jake was beyond repair and hopefully she would never see him again, and who else was really on the island that cared about her like they did...had?

She gently brushed Shawn's arm, recalling the electricity that had once flowed between them as though they were connected by some sort of current. She could still feel it, underneath all of the death, but she wasn't sure what any of it meant anymore. When he stumbled, she helped him, he did the same.

Team Gold.

She opened her mouth to speak as they grew closer to Bobby, but he ended up dashing off again.

"Bobby! wait." Shawn said, and Mae wondered if he was getting as impatient as she was. In any case, they hurried up, and left area that held so many memories for her...for them.
