Megumi missed Mizuho. She missed Chisato. She missed Yukie and Kaori and Takako and Shūya and even Kawada.
But she wasn't going back. She refused it. She wanted to see Mizuho and maybe try whatever Kyoichi had planned, but she wasn't going back if it meant dealing with Shimizu. It was a principal thing, or something. So long as Shimizu was working with them...she was better off on her own.
But if she was on her own, she needed a plan, didn't she? What could she really do at this point? There was about one person she knew she could trust at this point, and who knows where Chisato is. And even if she did, what then? Megumi knows she's not smart enough to get the collar off of herself. Most of the people that were smart enough were dead, or in Kyoichi's case, not very trustworthy. There was Shūya, but as much as she liked the boy, remembering his call...it wasn't going to work out. She could feel it in her bones. There wasn't much she could do.
...there was one thing she could do...
Megumi didn't want to. But she wasn't sure if there were any other options at this point. Life spat on every other hope she had. She could not do it and probably die, or she could go through with it and have a chance to live.
She didn't want to die.
If she did, Yukie, Shinji, and Toshinori's deaths would be pointless.
And...she did it once before.
Maybe-maybe killing would be as bad, the next few times? And maybe she could come up with a plan or-strategy, that was the word! Something to do with the vest, maybe? No, that's stupid, she took one shot to the chest already. That hurt like Hell and, last she checked, the bruise from it was yellow. Strategy was still a good idea though. Maybe, since left the long range weapons with Chisato, she should find her again? But where would she-wait.
Where the Hell was Megumi?
She looked around, and suddenly her stomach did a somersault.
She was in the orchard again.
Where she meant Kawada before.
Where Hiroki got blown up.
Where Kayoko killed Yukie and Yukie killed Kayoko.
Where bad things seemed to always happen.
Before, Megumi probably would've whimpered, being here again. As it stood now...

Coming back to the orchard that quick felt wrong.
((Noriko Nakagawa continued from IDK))
But Noriko (aka the hannya) had little say in where her classmate prey went.
After watching the other girl split up from the group, the hannya had kept a good distance. At first to avoid getting seen in an unfavorable moment. Later just because it was nice to have an excuse to procrastinate the inevitable for a bit.
Just like Noriko, her classmate prey wore clothes most likely stolen borrowed from one of the islanders. Blue jeans and a multicolored windbreaker. The clothes were baggy, making it hard to estimate the size of the girl inside them.
The hannya had yet to see who she was following. The two announcements she didn't miss had given her an idea on who was gone, but the list of possibly still living students was about as long.
Her classmate prey seemed to slow down. It was time.

Megumi needed to get out of here twenty minutes ago. She didn't care if it was paranoid thinking, as far as she was concerned these rows of trees were a death trap. And if there was one thing Megumi knew from the very start of this-and hadn't changed a bit since then-was that she wanted to live.
So she repeated what she did before, and this time with more energy. She wasn't anywhere near as fast as Takako is-was, was but...anything faster than walking was better than actually walking, at this point, and jogging would save more energy if she needed to fight.
The words "Not today," left her lips as she started jogging, making her way out the same way she came in.

...
what the...what???
So she repeated what she did before, and this time with more energy. She wasn't anywhere near as fast as Takako is-was, was but...anything faster than walking was better than actually walking, at this point, and jogging would save more energy if she needed to fight.

With her Beretta still in the pocket of her hoodie, the hannya (aka Noriko) peeked around a tree and finally got a good look at the classmate prey she was hunting.
Megumi Eto. A friend. The first person she had killed. Except that she was alive and well, although a little shaken from having discovered Mayumi's corpse.
What the... what?
This was impossible. The footage of her bullet piercing Megumi's chest had played countless times in Noriko's head. But then again, shew never saw any blood in the split second her shot illuminated the room, right? She never checked if Megumi was dead, right?
A strange feeling seeped into Noriko's heart.
Can I... go back?
After asking herself this question, she didn't even hesitate for a second to pull back her hood and rip off the mask she had hidden behind for the better part of the program.
This was it. Her big chance to actually work with others. During the time Noriko had relied on the hannya, others must have begun the preparations for the big escape or something. All Noriko had to do was team up with Megumi and find them.
Sure, there was still the issue with Keita, but Noriko was not in the mood to let counterarguments ruin her newfound hope.
She stepped out from her hiding place and cleared her throat so as to not startle Megumi.
"Hey."

Megumi wasn't exactly close to Mayumi, the closest thing they had in common being the M__umi of their names, but...seeing her like this just felt wrong. Like, she seemed like the kind of girl that could adapt to anything. Maybe those rumors about her were true, but she always thought that said more about the guys that paid than the girls who did it. If it helped her, then who was Megumi to criticize her?
But, more importantly...she never heard Mayumi's name in the announcements. Last she heard, she would've still been alive. So she would've had to have died recently, right? And that...that could mean...
She almost jumped at the sound of another voice. She was tempted to pull out the stun gun, but only had her hand in the bag at her side.
And...it was Noriko. Noriko looking...very different from the last time Megumi saw her, but definitely Noriko.
And honestly? She could stop herself from smiling this time, even if it was small, and fragile.

She was real!
But she did seem rather reluctant. Understandable, as Noriko had to admit. This island was a horrible place, after all.
"I am sorry for creeping up on you like that," Noriko found herself explaining. "I just wanted to see who you were before coming forward.
"I don't want to suspect anyone, but..." Her view turned to Mayumi and the bodies of Kayako and Yukie a little bit farther away from them before refocussing on Megumi. "... I think we should not trust all of our classmates."
This was not what she should say in this situation, and Noriko knew that.
She took a deep breath, then continued.
"I am just glad to see you alive and well. I didn't think that was the case.
"We should try to meet up with others. There is this shrine-"
Noriko realized her blunder just a little too late.
She was real!

For some reason, something about this conversation felt...off, in some way. Megumi couldn't really pinpoint why, but she could notice enough that it was weird.
But, she could ignore it. She had gotten this far on the island...mostly okay. She could handle a weird conversation.

She let out a sigh as Noriko continued, thinking about what had happened to her so far. Near stabbings, a shooting, actual shootings and stabbings, the worst her imagination came up with about Kawada and Kiriyama...
It was the second after Noriko stopped talking that Megumi realized it.
"Wait, you..."
She took a step forward.
"Did you think I was dead?"

How was Noriko supposed to answer this question?
"Many of us have died, so I assumed you did as well."
The announcements state the names of every deceased classmate, so there was no reason to assume such a thing.
"I missed the first announcement."
Wouldn't explain why she believed that Megumi had been on it.
"I missed the first announcement and someone told me you were on it."
Who would have told her and why? And what if they ran into that person?
"I had a horrible dream in which you died."
A dream is a dream. No reason to believe it is real.
"I had a vision in which you died."
What?
Every possible answer seemed worse than the one before.
Noriko wished she could travel about ten minutes in the future, where they had finished this conversation and where on the way to look for allies. But time travel was a fever dream, and with every second that passed, her failure to answer became more suspicious. She had to act.
"I saw you getting shot. Shortly after leaving the school. It was dark and I was hiding, so I couldn't see. Who did it. When they ran away, I tried to follow, but lost them. In the trees. Somewhere. And when I returned, you were gone."
Maybe the silence would have been better of remaining.

Noriko had no to time to react.
Pain exploded in the left side of her torso, spreading out across her entire body. Her limbs, no longer under her control, spasmed in random directions, causing Noriko to fall backwards. A tree about half a meter behind her was the sole reason she less than more remained on her feet.
This is wasn't right.
They weren't supposed to be fighting.
Noriko had to stop Megumi somehow.
It was rather dumb luck than intention that her right hand entered the pocket of her hoodie, founding a very familiar metal.
Pain exploded in the left side of her torso, spreading out across her entire body. Her limbs, no longer under her control, spasmed in random directions, causing Noriko to fall backwards. A tree about half a meter behind her was the sole reason she less than more remained on her feet.

How could she? How could she?! Had anyone even been shot before Noriko tried to kill Megumi? Or was the first bullet fired one of betrayal? One of a so-called friend trying to send hot lead into her guts until she bled out on the floor of house she'd never been before? Trying to prove that The Program, and everything it stood for-it was all right in the end? Dogs eat dogs, horses trample horses, and friends shoot friends? Was that it?! Was that the story?! WAS THAT HOW IT ALL HAPPENED!?!?
Megumi knew she wouldn't get an answer. One of them would be dead before that could happen, and she sure as Hell wasn't going to let itself be her.

Beyond the electricity flowing through her, Noriko could feel her grip around the Beretta loosening. It wouldn't be long until it was in the hands of Megumi, who still mistakenly believed that Noriko wanted to hurt her.
Somehow finding a little bit of power, Noriko strenghtened her hold, pressing her fingers into a fist around the weapon, hoping that she wouldn't BANG

For the second time in her life, Megumi got shot.
But it didn't go into the vest this time. What saved her life once would only do it that time, apparently.
Instead, the bullet went in her leg, and it HURT!
She fell on her butt again, too much pain in her leg causing her to crumble. The stun gun fell out of her hand, the bag off of her shoulder, and with it the knife, and she wanted to search for the first and grab the other, but the problem was the blood.
There was a lot.
Like, a lot a lot.
She didn't expect it to be bloodless, when you get shot and the bullet to enter your body, but it was her leg! Her thigh! There shouldn't be this much blood!
She needed to stop it. The more blood that left her body, the worse she was going to be, and she didn't need that, what she needed was to get up and stab Noriko in her fucking face until she knew what is was like to be betrayed by someone you once thought was your friend and-
Megumi could finish those thoughts as she tried to put pressure on the wound, the pain being enough to bring tears to her eyes, and bite her lower lip to keep her screaming from being too loud.
