The Waiting Game
((Chris Tyrell continued from That Moment When It Is Two Thirds Into The Season And You Have Achieved Nothing So Far))
Man, a hot shower could do wonders.
His stay at the cruise ship had been a lonesome affair so far. Chris quickly settled on staying in the passenger area of the ship. With multiple floors and hundreds of rooms it would be unlikely that someone found him. And even in the event that he had to flee either because of others or because of Danger Zones - his conclusions about the cruise ship could turn out to be wrong after all - there were a good number of escape routes leading either outside or to other parts of the ship. Chris had taken the time to walk around a bit to familiarize himself with the area. When someone came now, he was confident he would have a home advantage.
The main reason for this strategy had been boredom.
The search for teammates could wait until everyone was on the cruise ship. Before that, the possibility of his remaining five Leviathans being here was too small to make the risk of moving too much worth it. So Chris had ended up with a few hours he used to do his walks, make a few practice-swings with his axe and end with a long shower. Seeing how the restaurant had offered bathrooms for cleaning, but no showers or bathtubes, this was a nice luxury.
Not so nice was knowing that fifty meter further down the corridor was the resting place of Carol Hong. He had stumbled over her on his first walk around the perimeter. The corpse would hopefully deter people from looking through the nearby rooms, including his.
Spending the whole day like this was probably not the best use of his time. In the end, he was idling away hours. But Jewel had made it clear that he was in no position to take unnecessary risks. "Safe and boring is your path, probably with one big burst at the end" had been her words, and while it still sucked that Chris might go down in history as the most boring winner, it was still better than the "Nine kills and dead is still dead"-option.
He only hoped that he wouldn't miss the signs that the big burst was approaching.
With this thoughts, he exited the shower. A few towels had been in a drawer in the room, which he used to dry himself.
His axe was lying next to the bathroom door, alongside his duffel bag.

(Sergio Gallo continued from Return of the Bear)
Sergio had patched himself up the best he could. The wounds in his side had been bandaged, but it still fucking hurt. There wasn't much he could do about it. He was alone now, but it had beaten the other choice that had been offered to him.
Would he kill Laura if he had the chance? He wasn't sure. She had been willing to offer him to Seo-Yun on a silver platter, and that was horrible. On the other hand she probably wasn't ever going to be a threat. Her behavior towards Sylvain had told him that much.
Whatever. He'd worry about that if it came down to it. For now he needed somewhere to rest and to find a replacement weapon. He'd need it if he was to have a chance of winning the season.
The empty revolver was in his right hand. He used the left to open a door at random. He hadn't bothered to come up with a better method of choosing where to rest.

Shit!
Chris had just finished drying himself when he realized the dumb mistake he made, bringing him into a very uncomfortable situation:
He had left his new clothes in the main room of the guest quarter.
His old clothes had started to stink considerably, so he was not going to use them again. His fanservice costume was a no-go as well. Thankfully, he still had the black T-shirt and track pants. Plus the wardrobe in the room had been filled with clothes close to his size, including briefs. So he had gotten a new look.
Which now lay on the bed in the middle of the room.
In other words, he would have to go there only wearing a goddamn towel to cover his private parts. And his bandanna, which was around his left arm, of course.
Showering on live TV was one thing, but walking around like he barely even did at home was embarrassing.
No luck backing out of it, though. His old clothes were no option, not even for a minute. So Chris wrapped the wet towel around his waist, turned to the bathroom door and pushed it open, instantly being hit by the gust of cold air that hits you when your open the door after showering.

The room was steamy.
In the literal sense. No offense to the man in the towel, but Sergio wasn't aroused by it.
Sergio let out a slight cough and looked up at the ceiling above Chris instead of at Chris himself.
Sergio probably should have been robbing the guy or some shit, but random naked man wasn't something Sergio had considered when he opened the door.
That never showed up on Let's Make A Deal.
"It uh, never occurred to me to shower here," Sergio responded to the situation.
Nailed it.

Double-shit!
The last thing Chris had anticipated was someone entering the room in this very moment. Weren't there a hundred other rooms to randomly barge into? Why did it have to be his?
Even worse, his visitor had a gun.
However, the other guy seemed embarrassed upon seeing Chris. Understandable. He was almost naked, after all.
That embarrassment might be his chance to avoid things turning ugly.
"Well," he said with an awkward laugh. "They went to the effort to make the room fully-functional and my clothes were smelling like dung, so it would have been a waste not to, I guess.
"Also it would have been nice of you to knock before entering."

Sergio had a gun and this guy was laughing.
As a viewer Sergio would have laughed at the absurdity, but it wasn't funny now.
He wasn't sure about it being a waste not to shower. Sure, he probably could use a shower, but he didn't love the idea of having to rebandage himself or feeling the heat against his wounds.
He wasn't even willing to consider a cold shower.
"Some people would say I'm not nice," he responded, while absentmindedly pointing the gun at himself and back at the floor. He talked with his hands sometimes. He couldn't help it.
Sergio thought he was nice enough, but Laura wouldn't. Sylvain probably wouldn't either, but he didn't count anymore.

That was not good.
Chris knew when a joke was falling flat. The boy was not only unimpressed, but already waving his gun around. How much longer until he remembered they were supposed to kill each other?
That couldn't happen. Seeing the boy's bandanna, Chris got an idea.
Time for a convenient change in topic.
"The other night, I met two of your teammates." Chris said, purposefully not specifying which other night he meant. "Kaya and Bethan. Kaya is the one who took Eric Cunningham down. They were at the restaurant.
"You haven't seen anyone with a black bandanna running around?"

ES10: AKENO KUDO CONTINUED FROM A Little Piece of Heaven
Sergio had a gun now. That was a problem.
Anyone in her general vicinity having a gun was a problem, given the situation, but Sergio specifically having one was a huge liability for her; especially given their brief but violent history with each other. It had been a couple days since she had last seen him at the ferry, a lot had happened during that time, but considering she had thrown him into the ocean and then murdered his friend odds were he hadn’t calmed down any since then. He would shoot her if he had the chance, he wouldn’t do anything else; there was no questioning that.
Akeno leaned towards the corner of the hallway again, head peeking out so she could see down the corridor. He was still there, still talking to someone while casually waving a gun around; she couldn’t see who the other person was from here, but they sounded male. There was no sign that either of them had noticed her yet, she could still walk away and not have to deal with either of them; finding a change of clothes to replace her blood stained trousers wasn’t worth a fight.
And yet…
She untied the rope connecting the harpoon to the gun; Sergio wasn’t too far away, but she didn’t know what the range on this thing was and he was further away than Sofia had been so she didn’t want to risk the rope stopping the spear short. One shot, that was all she had, so she had to make it count.
Peeking around the corner again Akeno confirmed once more that he hadn’t moved yet. She tried to judge the distance, tried to remember the way the harpoon had flown up the stairs, the arc it made if any, before ducking back. There was still time to back out.
Stepping around the corner fully Akeno raised and harpoon gun; Sergio was a threat that needed to be taken out, one that she couldn’t let go lest it come back to bite her later. Aiming slightly higher than before to account for the distance Akeno lined up the shot and held her breath.
She fired…
She missed.
The harpoon hit the doorframe next to his head with a thunk and a cracking of cheap wood. Akeno cursed and threw herself back around the corner, dropping the now useless harpoon gun to the ground once she was safely hidden again. She thought about running, but decided against it. Akeno had her opportunity to back out of this and ignored it; instead she’d taken her one shot and missed and now she had to try and salvage something out of this mess.

Bandanas? Sergio would have to think for a moment on that one.
Or he would have if a harpoon hadn't impaled itself in the doorframe inches from his head.
"Motherfucker," he swore under his breath.
Fuck this guy. Sergio could forget about him for now.
Without thinking, Sergio took off running down the hall towards where the shot came from. His side hurt but he had to catch whoever tried to do him in. Or they would come back and try it again.
He couldn't have that.

Before the other guy could say anything in return, a harpoon entered the chat in a figurative and the doorframe in a literal sense.
Chris jumped back a few feet with a yelp. The other guy was surprised as well, but pretty much instantly collected himself and ran in the direction the shot came from.
This was another reminder to Chris how he was lacking three days behind. Everyone else was already accustomed to getting attacked in the middle of talking while he was here screaming like a girl at the sight of a shot that hadn't even be aimed at him. Embarrassing.
But his pride would gave to take a backseat right now. Because right now, Chris hastily made his way to the door.
Just to find out that the harpoon in the doorframe made closing it impossible.
With a curse, Chris closed the door as far as the harpoon allowed and hurried back to the bathroom, grabbing his clothes on the way.

They were running; she could hear their footsteps pounding down the hallway. That was what she’d expected, hoped for even, but the question was if they would run away from her or if they would run towards her? Either was a good outcome for her, definitely easier to deal with than them hiding away in a room, but each required a different response and she had only a few seconds to figure out which direction the footsteps were moving in before they potentially reached her.
The sound was getting louder; definitely running towards her. It was the better option for her; scarier, riskier, but better.
She waited; she breathed; she steadied her nerves and braced herself. And then, when she saw someone appear around the corner, Akeno threw herself towards him and tried to ram her knee into his stomach.

And in a flash there she was. Her form was burned into his brain by now. Akeno.
His arm had braced just in time to block the knee that was coming for his stomach.
Unfortunately it was the one that held the gun and the empty revolver clattered to the floor.
"You," he started, before trying to trip the leg that had remained on the ground.

Her knee strike was blocked and as she tried to step back Akeno felt a foot hook behind her leg and nearly trip her over. She stumbled back but managed to stay on her feet, staggering a few steps away from Sergio before she caught her balance; that should have been the end of it, Sergio raising the gun to put a bullet through her chest, but luckily she had knocked it out of his hand.
She didn’t respond to his acknowledgment, instead firing off a low kick at his thigh and following it up with a straight punch.

Sergio was quick enough to step back away from the kick but the punch still hit him square in the chest.
He grunted and reached out trying to grab Akeno's arm.
If he just got a good grip he could use his size to finish things.
That had been his previous mistake. If he'd managed that then Max would have lived.

The kick missed, but the punch didn’t. It was a good hit, Akeno could tell by the feeling of the impact reverberating back down her arm, but it wouldn’t be enough; she’d landed plenty of good hits on Sergio back at the ferry, but he hadn’t been knocked out of the fight until she’d kicked him overboard. He was tougher than the average person, so she needed a better way to take him down.
When Sergio reached out after her retreating arm to try and grab it she knew what he was up to, but allowed it to happen anyway. He was probably thinking to grab her so she couldn’t get away, then use his size and strength advantages to overpower her; she knew that because it was the thing she was most worried about in this fight, the worst thing that could happen to her outside of being shot by him. Akeno let it happen anyway, because that strategy could work both ways and she was far from helpless when it came to grappling.
At the same time that he grabbed the outside of her forearm Akeno grabbed the inside of his elbow and used her other hand to grab a fist full of his shirt just below his neck. Moving quickly she twisted around so that her back was against Sergio’s chest while maintaining the double hold she had on him. She stuck her leg out so that it was in front of his and slid her hand from his shirt to his shoulder before pulling on his arm as hard as she could while using the hand at his shoulder to push from the other direction and add more force. Sergio was dragged forward over her leg, tripping and being thrown to the ground at the same time and hitting the floor of the corridor in an instant.
That would have been her moment to strike, to punch and kick at Sergio before he could recover until he couldn’t fight anymore and she could finish him off. Instead she let him go, jumping over him and running for the revolver on the ground.
