He twitched. It wasn't helping. Normally playing a match or two in his head helped him reassess everything, think things through more clearly. But now he was making rookie mistakes in his game, and it was because he couldn't focus on it. The things he was trying to get away from were affecting the very escape he ran to.
Kyle opened his eyes and frowned. No way to avoid facing his problems it seemed. He sighed and got up, when he noticed Louisa standing nearby. "Hey, not much rest for you either I assume? And here I was hoping that we'd get some time to take off before we faced our final opponent."
He picked the pitchfork up off the ground. "So, what brings you here?"

There was once a dumb psuedo-news line here. Now there's this pretentious nonsense. YOU1 DID THIS, YOU1 KNOW WHO YOU1 ARE!
1. Yeah you, you nefarious ne'er-do-well you.

"Uh, not much," Louisa said, shaking her head. "I just don't feel like I can rest. There's just too much clouding my head right now-"
Good morning, America.
"-crap."
The announcements came blaring on, with the Brigadier General dispatching the news. The first detail he revealed was that only four students were left. Louisa gasped in surprise. It was really happening. The game was approaching the end. Just her, Kyle, and two others. Who were the other survivors?
The man began to read the dead. Lenny was killed by Dylan, thus removing one of the people Louisa figured could still be alive based on Shawn's message. Next up were a few people she knew were already dead. Carlyle, Robin, Frank, Shawn, and Ashley all had their names read out. Louisa felt a bit of guilt and sadness at being reminded of the deaths of Carlyle and Shawn. At the very least, the man didn't insult them after their deaths.
Finally, the last two deaths were listed. Dylan had apparently killed Chris and Becky. Louisa couldn't believe it. After leaving Chris back at the mountain track, she had hoped there would have been a chance to see him again and apologize for Brian and Alex. It looked like that would just be another regret added to her long list of them.
That just left four. Aside from Louisa and Kyle, Dylan and Audrey were the only ones left. Dylan killed five of the people on the announcement, and the general seemed to enjoy the trouble she'd gone through and the amount of blood she shed.
Next came Louisa. She felt herself tense up when he called her name out. She knew she had surely pissed this guy off, and he was probably going to talk down to her and make her feel really bad before going to the end. Sure enough, he did, mocking her nature and her poetry. He called her selfish, as if she didn't already feel that way about herself, and asked if she'd use that selfishness to try and win.
"Never," she muttered to herself.
The general continued. Kyle and Audrey both got similar critiques due to how low-key they had been the whole game. Kyle was asked if he could make a name for himself and maybe fight Louisa if it was they were the last two. Louisa knew Kyle wouldn't let that be the case. She trusted him. Audrey was simply asked if she could really survive after spending the game being pragmatic and avoiding real conflict.
They had to go to the Town. The place Louisa met Kyle back on the first day. It felt kind of poetic, in a way. Louisa turned to Kyle when the announcements finished.
"I guess this is it. Us, Dylan, and Audrey. It's really the beginning of the end."
Louisa pulled the Beretta out of her pocket and held it out. The gun felt a bit heavier than normal, and she wasn't sure if she could hold it straight. She felt her breathing get a little heavier.
"Kyle, thank you for being my friend. Please stay my friend for just a little longer. We're almost done."
Louisa closed her eyes.
This is it. I'm really about to walk towards my death. I guess it's time to go.
"Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah. Let's go Louisa."
Enough said. Time to move out. They could talk when they were dead.

Kyle was incredibly terse in his response, but Louisa could understand. The two of them comprised of half of the living students in the valley. It was hard to believe that after four days, nearly forty people had died, and somehow, the four of them were the only ones left.
But it was time to move. If they were going to go through with this plan, they'd have to get to the Town. She had no idea how Dylan and Audrey were going to react now that they were close to the end, but she just prayed it would end favorably.
