...Brings Mae Flowers

Mae's debut! Open thread, y'all

Mostly untouched, this natural rain forest sits on the far east side of the island, providing a marked contrast to its strictly regulated cousin. One of the defining features of the resort, very prominently displayed in every brochure, the only sign of civilization is a small wooden booth labeled "Jungle Safari" on a crude wooden sign a few hundred feet down the only pathway leading in.

A couple of months ago, Mae had googled sex. It wasn't as though she didn't understand the mechanics of everything, she had paid attention to sex ed about as much as the next giggly high schooler had. It wasn't the actual act that had confused her, but everything leading up to it. How did someone go from standing next to each other fully clothed to being incredibly naked and...well...interlocking?

Her results were pretty standard, a couple of SOTF-TV girl winner pin-ups as well as some "special uncensored scenes". She ended up watching one of the scenes but was pretty sure that knives weren't always involved, she figured that in the end she would eventually know exactly what to do. Her body would react accordingly.

She just didn't expect that instinct to kick in when Shawn explained that she looked better out of those clothes than in. It wasn't the usual blush that started at her neck, this one started much much lower and crept upwards. She cleared her throat and said in an oddly high voice. "Oh. I. Yes. Idea. Good. The idea is good."

She fled into some nearby thick looking bushes then as Zach bent over to pick up the saw. Without thinking about cameras or anything she stripped off the geisha costume, shoving it into her bag. it was far too humid out for her long sleeved green shirt, but luckily she found a dull gold tank top wadded up at the bottom of her bag. She pulled on her jeans and had her tank top over her head when she heard Zach mention a snake.

"A WHAT!?" Mae pulled the tank top over, yanking it down to cover her stomach. She yanked too hard and saw the top of her white lace bra peek out. Geez, America was getting a nice view of the matched set she had, wasn't that right?

Living on a ranch in Texas had exposed Mae to her fair share of desert snakes, however there were a lot of poisonous tropical ones. Forgetting her shoes she stepped out of the bushes she had changed behind.

The snake hung lazily off a tree. It didn't look that poisonous, then again, what did? She looked over at Shawn. He would definitely know what to do about the snake a lot better than she did. All her father used to do was pick them up with a stick and move them out of the way of the horses.

"Oh. I. Yes. Idea. Good. The idea is good." Mae had mumbled incoherently before running off.

Ok. That was unusual.

Shawn guessed Mae was just gonna find someplace private to change out. No problem, he could wait.

No sooner than that, Zach was saying something: "Guys... There's a snake over there. I'm gonna kill it."

"A WHAT!?" Came Mae's voice not too soon after. Shawn saw a snake in the bush near Zach. It was the harmless boa from earlier. Then he saw movement again, with Mae coming out from her dressing place. She was wearing a female tank-top: Gold in color. And er- her lingerie was peaking out from the top. She wasn't finished getting dressed and ran out prematurely after Zach's snake alert it seemed.

He traced her vision to a tree... there was another harmless young Boa on a low hanging branch near Mae. Shawn was about to mention that the snake was non-poisonous and harmless. They could have just walked away. But they both looked a little too panicked. Zach more-so than Mae it seemed.

As soon as Zach saw Mae in distress, Shawn saw Zach go right to her, abandoning the other snake in favor of the one supposedly endangering Mae.

"You don't need to kill it Zach." Shawn started. "It's a Boa Constrictor. It's a kid. They aren't poisonous, they're harmless, they-"

Mae seemed to hear him, but he didn't think Zach was paying attention. Cause Shawn saw Zach lift the wrench to the air and... Shawn turned away.

He saw Mae run out, shouting rather loudly. Her bra was peeking out of the gold tank top she was wearing. White lace. A glimpse of heaven.

She pointed to another snake, hanging lazily from tree, it's head pointed towards them. He stepped forwards, bringing the wrench up again. He heard Shawn say something. Something about it being harmless.

He could've cared less as he swung the wrench, casually caving in the creature skull. The dull thwack of the impact was rather disappointing. He wasn't sure what he'd expected, but it felt empty. Like he hadn't achieved anything.

He knelt down and picked up the dead Boa, it's tounge lolled out of it's mouth weakly. It wasn't dead yet. He raised a trainer clad foot and stamped down, putting the creature out of it's misery. That was better. A thin smile crossed his face for a moment as he picked up the things carcass and inspected his handiwork. He'd always been the weak one, downtrodden and thrown to the side.

Now, he felt like he was in control. He felt powerful.

And it felt good.

Mae stared dumbly at the dead snake that Zach had just beaten to death. She adjusted her tank top so that her goods were not being proudly displayed to the world anymore and walked over and sat under the nearest comfy looking tree.

She spread the map over her knees and looked intently at it. Geez it was a big place, but there were a lot of places they could go, no question. The hotel seemed promising, so did the cruise ship. Of course these places were the only ones that had nice, luxury beds and who was she kidding? It would be nice to still have that luxury on Death Island.

"I think we should head to one of the beaches," she said after studying the map. "I think we should head there. No snakes."

She looked up at the two of them with a look that clearly read that if any of them said anything about that damn snake and about what had just damn happened, she would scream.

Boa #2: Brian Peter George St. John Le Baptiste De La Salle Eno - DECEASED.

*

The whole thing was strangely disturbing for Shawn. With the way Zach was examining his work, after finishing the boa with a quick stomp, it was like Zach almost enjoyed it. The poor Boa never stood a chance. Zach held the Boa up showing it off to Mae proudly, as if saying: "Look Mae, I saved you from that snake!"

It was obvious though, by her movements away from him, to the tree, that she was just as disturbed about what had just happened. She clearly looked like she didn't want to talk, let alone think about it. She wanted to move.

Shawn walked to the boa, Zach had dropped in front of himself. He picked it up and gave a quiet look at Zach.

It's head was flattened. Did Zach have this in him all along? Was it this easy for him to kill something, in such a violent way. If killing animals was so easy for him, could doing the same to a person come just as easy for him. In this Battle Royale of death? It shocked Shawn, especially cause he thought Zach had some respect for animals, after watching them in the zoo and all. Shawn held the Boa in his hands. "What I was trying to say, is you didn't need to kill it. It was just a small and young boa. Not poisonous." he said softly.

"The thing about animals is... we're all a bunch of animals," Shawn said simply.

He walked away, and sat near his bag, looking at the snake as the two others discussed the map and where to go to next.

"You're not done yet..." He whispered.

The way the snake had scared both Mae and Zach, gave Shawn an idea. Shawn chuckled to himself with the thought of using a boa constrictor as an impromptu useful item. Shawn named it after one of his favorite musical artists' and then gently put the Deceased Boa into his bag.

Shawn turned back to Mae as she spoke. She wanted the group to get moving. Maybe to a beach. That was good, cause Shawn always wanted to go to the beach more often. There wasn't too many Beaches in Texas.

"Yeah. Sounds Great!" Shawn said in a more optimistic voice. "Let's go."

He felt the power rush fade, his heart beat going from an insistent pounding in his rib cage, back to the normal rythm. Normallity? In SOTF? What a joke. He put his wrench in his left arm. His right arm was already aching, he needed to rest it. If only they'd given him a sling or something. How was he supposed to kill when he could barely lift the fecking thing?

"The thing about animals is... we're all just a bunch of animals" Shawn said quietly, in one of his trademark moments of random phillosophy. It made him think though. That was one of the scariest things about SOTF, wasn't it? That it proved, that however complex and nice we pretended to be, deep down we were all capable of horrible things.

Like killing harmless animals for no reason. That was horrible wasn't it? He should've felt like a bastard. But... It'd felt so good.

Best not to dwell on it.

He turned back towards the group, his expression blank except for a little satisfied smile.

Mae wanted to go the beach. Sounded like a good idea. Plenty of driftwood for a fire, should be pretty deserted, and it wasn't ultra far away.

"Well.. I'd say we've got 8, maybe 9 hours of daylight left, so we'd better get moving now. I'll take point" he said, trying to sound like he knew what he was doing.

He noticed that the snakes body was missing. He looked around and saw that Shawn had put it in his bag. What? Why?! He tilted his head to the side and looked at him quizzically. It was times like this he wished he could raise his eyebrows independently.

Mae nodded as she braided her long hair over her shoulder, map still balanced in her lap. It was probably like this all over the island (except for the Ski Resort of course) and the sweat was already starting to make her hair stick to the back of her neck. She tied it quickly, before deciding to use the gold bandanna as some sort of makeshift scrunchie.

"We can either go north to the aptly named Northern Beach, or go to the south of the island to the seemingly more luxurious Resort Beach."

The snake was gone, out of the corner of her eye she had seen Shawn head towards it. He must have buried it, poor thing. Shawn had always had a loving respect for animals. He had even gone to the zoo once, which she had found touching. Mae's fingers went to the horse charm around her neck. She respected those who respected animals.

She tried not to think of the look on Zach's face. How easily he had killed that constrictor. She tried not to think about his vows to kill for her, this self-sacrificial attitude. She tried not to think about the way Shawn had turned his head to look away as Zach did it. A sort of inactive pacifist, eh?

Maybe neither her nor Shawn would have to get their hands dirty. They clearly didn't ave to kill each other but....maybe they wouldn't have to kill anyone so long as Zach was around. She hated herself for feeling relieved at this prospect.

She stood up, shouldering her pack and holding the map in front of her like a tourist. "I'm excited either way," she added. "It's been a while since Mom and Dad took me on a beach vacation." She sort of regretted it now, sure the Vienna ski vacation had been fun, as well as that trip to Paris, but what about the good ole beach?

"Let's go!"

She picked a direction and marched onwards, hoping the two of them would follow...

Shawn Morrison threw the strap of his backpack over one shoulder, his blazer on the other. His Boa, was much lighter than that electric saw he had, that was good. "Hang in there, Brian." Shawn whispered to his bag.

Mae wanted to go to a beach, which was an idea Shawn completely agreed with. He looked at the map. "I say, we travel south, to the resort beach. Pass the volcano and tar pits, those could be pretty cool to see along the way. Then we just follow the path along the resort beach to the hotel, by night maybe? Sounds like a vacation." He ended with another tiny chuckle.

Apparently Zach wanted to lead, but Mae was already moving. Shawn followed her out.

He watched as the two set off, heading through the lush forest. He grunted and tightened up the straps of his bag. He jogged to reach the front of the trio, before matching his pace with Mae's and using his wrench as a walking stick.

Why the fuck were they treating this like some sort of all expenses paid trip to the Bahamas? Ah well, he could deal with that.

He concentrated on the walk. Step. Step. Step. Step.

Then the surroundings. Green. Green. Green. Green.

He wasn't going to break this tentative silence though. Talking was someone elses job.
