“Everyone may be ordinary, but they're not normal.” - Haruki Murakami, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World
[KENTON ZINN - SPOOKR8MA - MAIN GAME]
He might not know. He might not care.
There was once a saying that he heard. Many unfortunate times. There was the claim that the most terrifying thing that you could be scared of, is something you didn't realize is something you should.
Kenton Zinn has found that one fear. He was scared now.
Breathing intensifying from every awaken gasp.
Like computing in his neon green mind and blood, he was processing what has occurred.
Was it true? Was one of his students some sort of virtual school shooter? What was Initiative Earth? What the actual fuck was going on?
Here is what he knew. They were going to kill everyone. This wasn't going to go well. In 4 days, nonetheless.
He wanted to punch something. Hit a wall. Hit a mirror.
He rather do it in a restroom. Unfortunately, his virtual school did not include restrooms.
And it seems this room he was in didn't include any furniture? This classroom felt familiar, but it was devoid of any visible object, apart from a familiar backpack that was upgraded to be a daypack, along with a mysterious chainsaw next to it.
All of this...
...It's a new type of game.
He knew what he should do. Zeph was such an idiot in having Kenton keep his avatar. It was humiliation to have him as his Meatspace self, but he was what he was supposed to be. He was Spookr8ma. THIS was him.
He didn't shed a green tear. He wasn't weak. He will NOT die weak.
Kenton got up from the floor, having waken up earlier.
Propriety #1: Find the others. Omega Squad never leaves one of their own behind.
He picked up the chainsaw next to his bag. Kenton never held a chainsaw before. This was something foreign to him. There were supposed to be a chainsaw weapon back during a previous CyberTag game title, but the devs were forced to pull it at the last minute, since the weapon was seen as too violent for a CR game. I rather have a gun...
However, in Kenton's case, he was about to be one of the most luckiest men in the world.
Setting down the chainsaw, he examined the inside of his daypack. The neon green and black stripped bag included a glow-in-the-dark green outline and that cartoon ghost decal that Kenton has. Opening it, he already found something that made his eyes widen.
It was...
...The Portal Gun from the game Portal?
Kenton pulled out the portal gun. It was just like the video game. Isn't it a prop?
Kenton saw a blank wall at one end of the room. Where the markerboard was supposed to be. Putting it at the triggers, he fired off one portal. A familiar oval-shaped blue shape appeared. Kenton turned around. Another blank wall. He fired anot-
"Shit." Kenton accidently fired another blue portal, putting it at that wall instead. It's been a while since he played a Valve game. He turned back to the wall where the blue portal originally was. He found the other trigger. There, the orange portal immediately showed the back of Kenton.
Should he test it?
Kenton immediately walked towards the orange portal. The thing he was seeing was just him with his back turned in front of the orange portal. It was an infinite effect he made. Kenton hopped through the portal and ended up out through the blue portal.
He knew what he was feeling right now.
He was...
This could be his chance.
All of those books and media about certain characters. Wade Watts, Sword Art Online, The "Guy".
He was going to be a legend now.
Kenton smiled to himself. This was his time.
