You Think You Know Someone

Phase 1 (0-12 Hours), Open

The buildings found on the eastern fringe of the town are by and large the fanciest and most expansive; naturally, these are the homes which housed most American officials and their families. This part of the area is comparatively shielded from the wind and elements, and the buildings are more architecturally adventurous, featuring a range of materials (including brick and stone siding) and more varied sizes. While there is the occasional one-story home to be found, most run two or even three floors. There's ample space between buildings, with paved walkways and large, well-maintained gardens. It's possible to hide in many of the houses themselves, and garages, basements, and out-buildings are prevalent. These buildings tend to be well-lit, with wide windows, and are largely clean and impeccably maintained—usually through the efforts of hired help rather than the former inhabitants. In the Prologue this area has no thread limit, so long as threads do not contradict each other.

You Think You Know Someone

((Morgan Matthew, start))

It wasn't like he meant it to hurt her. That wasn't what was going on in his head at all at the time. He meant what he said, and he said what he meant. Not sure how she actually took it when it happened, but things seemed fine afterwards. It was when she was called forward on announcement day that he regretted what he said. Regretted ever having brought it up.

It was when he was called that he most regretted ever even having had the thought at all.

He wasn't sure about when he woke up. The initial confusion as to the amount of time he was out quickly faded as he noticed the distinct sound of someone breathing next to him. Morgan blinked and tried to adjust his vision to his surroundings. He was in a bedroom of some sort, on the floor on his back, and there was someone with him in the same room. This was not ideal, waking up in the same place as someone else. Particularly when you weren't sure what you got or that you could even go through with what was expected of you. He turned his head to look at who he was placed with, and his heart sank.

There she was, sleeping peacefully only a few feet away from him. Morgan couldn't believe, didn't want to believe this was real. He had come to terms with the possibility of never getting to see her again. Even after his own name was called he never thought they would be together again, but here she was. Morgan Light, his ex-girlfriend, was right there in front of him.

Son of a bitch, did they pick the two of them because they knew? Did they just want to hurt him by forcing him to be in the Program with her?

She stirred, making soft noises as she began to wake up. Morgan frowned, how was he supposed to explain this?

"Uhh... morning, I think." He gulped and tried to sound calmer. He sounded a little more on edge than he wanted to. "Hey Light, it's me Dark." He didn't know why he gave that stupid canned greeting they always made when they were dating. It just came naturally, it was something he'd always done with her.

She gradually became more alert and replied back with her own canned greeting. He couldn't help but smile even with how dumb the whole exchange was. She asked him what happened, and he couldn't respond. It wasn't like she forgot, it wasn't like the Program was new, and it wasn't like she could be in denial of what was happening. Morgan knew all of that, but he still couldn't help but feel that her question was monumentally stupid given the situation. Still, for her sake, he tried to brush it off.

"Seems like we were dumped in the honeymoon suite or something." He laughed, but it didn't sound at all like he wanted to. "Umm... real talk here Morgan: this is a bad situation we're in and I don't know if we're gonna be okay. Being one hundred percent honest here, I can't recall a single time the Program ever let more than one person leave alive. That... is not good for us." He realized what he sounded like, so he tried to reassure her. "Don't think that I'm thinking of hurting you or anything. That's not— that isn't what I mean. It's just... umm... we might have some tough decisions ahead of us, you know?"

He tried to give her a smile, the same one he always gave her on their dates. The smile felt off, real off, and he felt like there was no way she would be reassured by it. Still, it was all he could do right now. Hopefully it would be enough.

((Morgan Light, start))

She didn't know why she was here. She thought about it after her name was called over and over. The conclusion she came to was not supported by what she had discovered when she woke up. She had checked her bag, and seen the weapon within. If she was meant to die in this place, that was an odd choice for the government to reinforce the idea. She had zipped the bag back up, slung it over her shoulder, and made her way upstairs. When she heard breathing, the kind of sound of someone asleep, she went to investigate. She found him there, on the floor.

At the time, she didn't know why she felt the need to go rest there with him. She didn't know why she decided to pretend they had placed them both in the same room. She didn't know why she hadn't simply woken him up. None of what she had done made any sense, but when he finally stirred and woke up, she felt warm in her heart.

She pretended to be waking up right then herself, and smiled when he greeted her with their little greeting. "Hey Moon, the Sun is happy you're here." She replied to him with the response that he had told her he enjoyed so much. She wanted to stay in that moment longer, but she knew they had to focus on the program right now. "What's going on? What happened?" The tone of her voice was a little flat, because despite her concern at the situation she couldn't help but feel it wasn't that bad right now.

He made a dumb joke, that was so like him, typical Morgan Matthew. He followed the joke with some rather serious blather. It wasn't something she hadn't thought about herself when she found him. It was a little more grave and serious a tone from him than what she was used to, but the way he tried to clarify his position made her chuckle a bit. As if there was any way she could ever even consider him hurting her, it was ridiculous.

And if she had wanted to hurt him, she could've just taken the sword out and stabbed him in the chest when she found him. She stared blankly for a bit, not quite sure why that thought came to her. Was she still mad about their talk? No, that couldn't be it. She was hurt, sure, when he told her they should see other people. Still, she had concluded that his reasoning made sense and there was no reason for the break-up to affect their friendship. She just dealt with the pain, put it away from her mind. Until now she hadn't even thought about it again. So why was she thinking about it now?

"It's okay, I know what you mean. Don't worry, we'll get through this together. We're friends, right?" She smiled at him, even after his disastrous attempt to smile the way he always did. "For now, why don't we get off the floor and figure out where we are?"

She took charge and got up. If nothing else, she would try to protect him before she died. Maybe that was why she was given the rapier. Then again, if he had a good weapon too he could protect himself just as well.

((Zeke Brant continued from Floundering Hopes))

Zeke was back at square one. Mick had left no indication of where he went after leaving the dump, so Zeke and Laurie no longer had any trail to follow. He decided to go back to an earlier plan of his: going to the main town area, where more people would be gathered, and hoping to find his friends or someone who had seen them there.

When they made it to the residential area, Zeke was surprised by its appearance. He expected something dirty and ramshackle, but what they found was a bunch of upper-class houses with orderly gardens. The smell of dead fish was only barely noticeable. Zeke never cared much about these types of tidy suburbs back home, but compared to the dump the neighborhood felt like a paradise. Zeke led Laurie through some of the houses, searching for people or possibly some useful supplies. They didn't find either in any of the first four houses they searched.

Zeke pushed his way through the front door to the fifth house, gun held at waist level. To his left there was a staircase. To his right there was a sitting room, with a dining room and the edge of a kitchen visible beyond it. Zeke stepped into the sitting room and glanced around the floor. No one was there. Time to check the second floor, then.

Zeke lazily glanced back to see if Laurie was following, and then he began to climb the staircase.

((Laurie Moran continued from Floundering Hopes))

Following Zeke around had been a pretty, quiet time for Laurie, they hadn't really talked that much as they had been wandering around, trying to see if they could pick Mick's trail. But they had not luck with that after they had left the dump. Leaving behind Scotty. She hoped that she wouldn't have to go back to there again. She wasn't sure if she could handle it a second time. She just wanted to continue moving forward with Zeke and to keep on surviving. She didn't want to give up on her life yet.

Searching through the first few houses and not finding anyone had been a relief to her. She didn't know what it had made her happy to see no one or any of her friends. She did want her friends to be safe and sound. She didn't want to know if they were dead or if they had killed someone.

Laurie noticed that Zeke had looked back at her after they went into the next house and she knew that he was keeping an eye on her. She was not going to attack him. That was a rule that she had given herself. Attacking her ally was not going to help her in the long run. Betraying Zeke's trust was out of the question. She wanted him to trust her for as long as possible.

Laurie moved very cautiously towards the staircase and she took her first step up the stairs. "Zeke?" She said to him quietly. "Do you think that we could have a break for now?"

She was actually hungry and a bit exhausted. She wondered if he was feeling the same way. If they took a break, they would have a conversation with each other and then they could possibly plan on what they would do next.

Morgan retrieved the rapier from her pack, then dusted herself off. She knelt down to give Matthew a hand to get up. He thanked her for her help, then searched his own bag. The bag of foam darts he came up with suggested he wouldn't be much help in a fight. Morgan frowned, but decided it couldn't be helped. She would have to protect him after all, for as long as she could any way.

She heard the sound of a door opening, followed shortly by footsteps in the building. She motioned for Matthew to be as quiet as possible. She pressed herself against the wall near the door and tried to quiet her breathing. She hadn't noticed that her breathing had been erratic from the moment she heard the door.

"Morgan, try to find someplace to hide." She whispered to him her instruction, then readied her rapier.

She got up pretty quickly, and pulled a pretty good weapon from her pack. Morgan hoped that he had something that good. He put his hand out when she extended hers, and got up. "Thanks Light, let's hope I got something good too." He searched his own pack, but couldn't seem to find a weapon. There was the standard stuff he saw Light had, but no blade, gun, or anything. All he saw was a bunch of useless junk and... darts, Nerf goddamn darts. Fucking Program.

While he was thinking about how badly he got screwed over, Light started breathing hard and made some weird hand gestures. Morgan nodded like he understood, but had no idea what the hell she was doing. Then she told him to hide. What the shit? Morgan, the hell was she doing?

He sighed and tried to crouch next to the bed, out of sight of the door. He opted not to open the dart bag, not like it would help anyway.

"This is great. If someone comes by, my girlfriend is gonna stab them and I'm just gonna throw darts at their corpse." Morgan muttered to himself and pressed his back against the bed.

It gave kind of a creak, because of course it would.

"Son of a bitch."

Zeke was halfway up the staircase when Laurie spoke. She had a point, they had been walking for a long time. Zeke hadn't had a real rest since he left the scrapyard. It would be good for them to try to find a place to sleep, too, for when night came. The area they were in was thankfully the most comfortable place for that. Of course, they still had to finish searching the house first, because otherwise-

Zeke heard a creak from upstairs

Zeke held his finger to his lips and motioned for Laurie to follow him. He stepped up slowly and softly, though the wooden steps still made more sound than he would have liked. There was a bathroom at the top of the stairs with its door open, and there was no one inside. To its right was a hallway with three closed doors. One to the left, one to the right, and one at the end. He didn't know where the sound had come from. Zeke frowned. It could be very easy to walk into an ambush, if someone was waiting to strike right behind one of the doors, or if he opened the wrong one and someone came at him from another. He considered having Laurie open the doors while he stayed back with his gun ready, but the hallway was pretty narrow and if things got violent she could easily get killed, or she could get in the way if Zeke was trying to shoot at someone. No use in it. Before trying anything dumb, Zeke decided he should at least try to make them come to him.

"Stay behind me for now, if we're unlucky things could get ugly real quick." Zeke whispered to Laurie. He turned back and called out "Hey, if there's anyone there, we just want to talk! We're looking for our friends."

Zeke took a step back and eyed the doors, revolver at the ready in case things turned bad.

Laurie hadn't thought that someone would actually be there. But then again, it made sense that some people would hide anywhere to either get away from the violence or if they were preparing to kill other people. She honestly hoped that it was the former and not the latter. She didn't want to see anyone else to die right now. She was getting to her breaking point.

Laurie remained silent as she followed Zeke up the stairs and she stayed where she was behind him. Zeke was speaking to whoever was there and she eyed the doors with suspicion. Where were they hiding? Was this all going to turn into a misunderstanding?

Laurie shifted uncomfortably and her grip on the wrench instantly tightened. She had to be ready. Just in case they weren't friendly.

Goddammit, goddammit, goddammit. Now of all times, in this kind of situation. Fuck this was all so shit right now.

"Well, two ways this can end and I don't like the one where Morgan stabs someone to death." Morgan muttered again to himself as he got up. The bed gave out another louder creak. She gave him a look like he'd gone crazy, and mouthed out what looked like a 'what the hell are you doing?' He shrugged and walked toward the door. She stopped him from opening it. He looked her straight in the eyes, and wordlessly twisted the handle. She let his hand go.

"Alright, coming out. Don't shoot me or nothing please." He opened the door and stepped into the hallway. Hooray for stupidity, he was probably going to die.

At least that was what he thought before he saw them. They were at the end of the hallway, still kinda on the stairs it looked like. He sighed. "Okay, looking for your friends right? Haven't seen anyone since I woke up here, which was literally just a few minutes ago. Sorry, not much help I know."

He decided to raise his hands above his head, then opted to just place them behind his head. Try to be a little less 'dear god please don't shoot' and more 'for fuck's sake let's not get violent okay?' "But hey, we're all good right? Right, Morgan?"

He turned his head back towards the bedroom. Come the hell on girl, get your ass out here and forget about stabbing anyone. It's not gonna happen. Not today anyway.

So Morgan had lost all sense of reason and tactics it seemed. That was the only she had for why he got up and made his way to the door. "What the hell are you doing?" She mouthed it rather than say it because she was no longer certain they couldn't be heard. He reached to open the door. She lowered the blade and took his wrist with her free hand. He gave her the look, the one that meant she was the one being dumb. It wasn't a look she got from him too often, but she knew he was right when he gave her that look. She didn't stop him any further.

She stood pressed against the wall as he went out. She wracked her brain for something, anything as to a reason for why he would risk their lives like this. Nothing. Not a single reason came to mind. Nothing he did made any sense. Not only had their entire relationship not made sense to her, emotionally anyway, but now their partnership no longer made sense rationally.

What was she still doing with him? They weren't together anymore, and the program was not meant to allow just anyone to survive. When she was selected, she thought it was because she was chosen to die. When she saw the weapon they gave her, she had some doubts on her initial assessment. Now, she was altogether convinced that she was being deliberately set up for failure.

Why else would they place the two of them so close to each other? To her recollection, that never happened. This was a test, it had to be. The program was meant to showcase American strength and resolve. A sacrifice of the many for the sake of the ideal one. This was her test. What would she do? Would she stay with the same old feelings, same old mindless tempo that carried her here?

Or would she evolve and finally find her reason for living?

She still wasn't sure about her answer yet.

Not yet.

Yet.

He called out to her. She looked down at the weapon in her hand. Her grip tightened, an oddity for sure, but it felt natural. She loosened her grip, and it felt almost the same. She wasn't sure which felt better at this junction.

She would have to find out soon.

"Okay. No hostilities then, I'm coming out as well." She stepped out into the hallway with him, the bedroom now empty save for their packs. The door across from them was still closed. She turned her head to see the door behind them at the end of hallway. Also closed. No one else here.

This might not have been the worst choice, but it still wasn't optimal. She probably should've checked those rooms first, but she found him first so what was done was done.

She turned to face the stair end of the hallway. "Hey, so it's just us here, Morgan and Morgan. Are you the only ones here as well?"

Zeke waited. He heard some scuffling coming from the rightward room. a boy came out with his hands up, followed by a girl. It was the Morgans, Matthews and Light. They were a couple; Matthews was an alright guy, but Zeke always thought that Light seemed stuck-up. Zeke had to strain not to grimace at the sight of Light's sword. In these close quarters, Light might be able to run up and stab him before he could get off a shot. Even if he successfully shot her Matthews could punch his lights out before he had the chance to aim and fire again.

"Ah..." Zeke said, with a weak smile on his face. "Yeah, unless there's someone hiding in the other rooms up here we're the only ones."

What to do, what to do? Trying to kill them would be risky. It probably wasn't worth it. Should they just leave, then?

"So I take it you haven't met anyone else, either?" he said, gesturing towards Light. "That's too bad. For us, anyway. You two must be real lucky to find each other so quick."

There was also the possibility that they would rush him as soon as his back was turned. Try and get their hands on a gun. Zeke allowed himself a split second to glance back at Laurie before returning his gaze to Light. He stared her down and grinned, just to make it clear that he was paying attention to her.

"That's all we wanted to know. We should be on our way. Right, Laurie?"

Laurie stared at Morgan and Morgan unsurely. One of them had a weapon that looked like it could take her and Zeke out. She rather not become a victim to that. Ah, Zeke wanted her to say something. And then they were going to leave...?

"Oh, y-yes. We should get going." She nodded towards the two Morgans. "Um...."

She started to take steps backwards towards the steps, making sure to look at where she was moving. She wanted to make room for Zeke so that he could move. She really hoped that the other two wouldn't come after them. She didn't want any trouble from either of them.

That was it then, nothing was going to happen after all. She felt like a fool for even considering it. The gun was still concerning, but it didn't seem like anything would come of it. "See you around, maybe." She wondered if maybe she should go for the gun. She might get shot if she did so, but if she moved quickly she might avoid a fatal hit.

No, better to not stir trouble now. Besides, she doubted that Morgan would go along with it. He seemed to want to avoid a fight at any cost. Even if it meant putting both of them at a disadvantage. Even if it meant ignoring the fact that she was the only one who could protect him. He had nothing, nothing at all to help.

"Morgan, can we talk? Just for a bit?" She didn't wait for his reply. She just went back into the room and leaned against the wall."

She was going to find out exactly what was going on inside his head. Depending on his plan, his answers to her questions, his motivations, she might just have to move forward on her own.

It was clear that the choice should be made now, before anything happened.

"Okay then, take care out there." He slowly lowered his arms and moved his hands to his pockets. Everyone had kept their cool and nothing bad happened after all. It was a fucking miracle. Great work everyone, good job not killing each other.

Morgan sighed and shook his head. He was almost certain things would end with someone getting stabbed or shot or something. It didn't happen, but that didn't mean his nerves weren't still shot to hell. He'd have been shaking like a goddamn leaf if he didn't have some self-control. Fucking Program was the worst fucking thing ever. It's like it was meant to make people nervous wrecks or something. Damn weird about all that.

Those two were leaving it seemed, and Morgan wanted to speak with him. What the fuck about? What the hell was there to talk about? Was she gonna scold him for going out there without knowing if it was a trap or something? So what? It's not like it would've mattered. He took a risk and didn't lose anything for it. That was probably the best he could have hoped for.

"Gotta take a strategy meeting or something. See you guys around."

What did she want? This had better not be another Q&A session. He didn't have time for that kinda shit right now.

The Morgan went back into their room. Looks like they managed to avoid any trouble. Zeke felt unsettled about just letting them go, disappointed even. This was The Program, would he really get by if he just backed away from any risky fights? He tried to shake the doubts from his mind. The most important thing at the moment was to survive long enough to find his friends. When they gathered together, they would be able to steamroll over anyone. Besides, he had already killed once only a few hours earlier. He didn't need to rush to get more.

"Goodbye." he said "Good luck."

Zeke looked back to see that Laurie had backed up and left him some room. Zeke walked past her as fast as he could while still keeping an eye on the bedroom door, then he descended the stairs. Laurie had suggested taking a break earlier, right? That sounded like a good idea. He was beginning to get tired.

"Ugh, let's find another building and rest there for a while." he said quietly. "Hopefully we'll have more luck tonight."

Laurie was glad that nothing went badly between the four of them. She was glad to not see anyone die. She was glad that Zeke was not going to continue killing people. She wanted him to stay friendly for a while longer. Sooner or later, she knew that they would both have to do what they had to do to survive.

She didn't like the thought. But she had to face up to the reality soon. She couldn't remain ignorant. She knew what everyone would be doing.

Laurie followed after Zeke, looking back a few times to be safe. "Okay, let's do that." She said, feeling more relieved now.

"First off, what exactly do you plan to do to stay alive here?" Morgan Light was not about to waste any more time. This question needed an answer and it needed it now.

He gave a non-committal response. Apparently he hadn't thought that far ahead. So that answered her next question before she even made it. Great.

"Next question then. Where are we at right now, in your eyes?"

He asked her to explain what she meant.

"You know what I mean. We're not together anymore. We're just sort of together but not really. I don't know how else to put it. What does that mean for here, this place, the days to come?"

He paused for a little longer than she thought it should take to come up with a response. Then he said nothing. She jerked away from the wall.

"What do you mean nothing?"

First thing was a goddamn question and fuck if he knew the answer. God why did she have to be like this now of all times?

"Stay alive. What else is there to do? Like I have a detailed plan of action and shit. Come on Light, you know I don't have an clue here."

She didn't seem to like that, but fuck if he could give her an answer she would like. Then she asked a really confusing question.

"What the fuck does that even mean?"

Oh. That was what she meant. This was the moment she chose to bring it all up. Still in her typical fashion, all lacking impact and shit. This, this right here was why he broke up with her. She could never just come out and say shit. Always had some roundabout fucking bullshit way of getting to her goddamn point. Fuck that nonsense. He was done trying to guess if every little thing he did was secret pissing her off or something.

She was waiting for a response, but he honestly didn't care to do this shit right now.

"Nothing."

Of course she would actually react to that.

"Now you know what I goddamn mean. You said it yourself, we're not an item anymore. Does that mean anything here? Fucking hell no. I'm not about to stop looking out for you or shit, if that's what you're worried about. I'm not gonna abandon you or nothing. And I sure as fuck won't try and hurt you. You're still someone I like okay. Jesus are you so tightly wound that it takes a fucking fight-to-the-death to get some fucking feelings out of you? Fuck."

He was sure she was mad, but what else was new? She was talking shit like this was gonna be an issue for them or shit. Like fuck it was. He didn't notice her reply.

He did notice her draw her weapon ready.

"Are you serious? Are you for real right now? What the fuck Morgan."

So that was the way he felt. Nothing. Just about summed up the totality of their relationship's value. Nothing changed in this situation for him. Nothing at all. Unbelievable. Literally un-fucking-believeable. A life changing situation and he still wanted to pretend nothing was different.

"Things are different for me."

She drew her blade. He reacted as expected.

"Leave, I don't want to have to hurt you."

"Are you fucking serious right now?" Morgan Matthew felt his blood begin to boil. What in the fucking shit was this moron in front of him doing? "This is a joke. This has to be a damn joke. Holy shit. Put the fucking sword down."

She shook her head no, and Morgan frowned. She repeated that he had to go, and steadied her feet to make it clear she meant business.

Fuck
That
Shit

"Make. Me." He crossed his arms and waited for her to stab him. She didn't, so that meant she was full of shit when it came to threats. What a bitch. She started to launch into a rant or something. He stood arms crossed getting angrier by the moment.

More obscenities, like those were the only bits of vocabulary he could use. Morgan Light shut out the nonsense from the substance. He apparently couldn't believe what she was doing right now.

"I said leave. In case I wasn't clear." She steadied herself into a better position, blade still pointing at him.

He refused, and dared her to make him leave. That, was a mistake. He asked for this.

He damn well asked for it.

"You, you arrogant bastard. Do you have any idea of what I put up with on a daily basis from you? It's bad enough that you can't go two words without obscenities filling the air like they're punctuation, but you never even tried to think about me at all. We always did whatever you wanted. I always bowed out and acquiesced to your wishes. Did you ever even ask me what I wanted? Did you even consider I had feelings? You constantly complain that there's never anything fun for us to do. I was trying to be considerate! Always. I'm always thinking about you and I hate it! I can't understand why I'm this way around you, but it has to stop! I'm done. No more. So leave. Me. The hell. Alone. Now!"

"Rebuttal: you're an idiot. You never once gave me any hint anything was wrong you stupid moron. I broke things off with you because I thought you were too passive for me. You never wanted to do anything I didn't. What kind of girl does that for a guy? Not a fucking one I've ever known, not before you. Holy shit. Is this the reason for it all? For fuck's sake. Okay. Fine. You want space, you've got it. See you the hell later."

He stomped past her, muttered another curse under his breath.

"Bitch."

What did he say?

That fucking piece of shit.

She turned around as he left.

Her grip tightened. "Screw you, you asshole."

She thrust.

Pain

Sharp stinging pain like he'd never felt before filled his stomach. He cried out as he felt the blade run through him. Seeing the tip poke out in front of him was a terrifying sight.

He coughed blood.

Why was this happening? Where they really on that kind of bad terms with each other? Why?

"Y-you. Why?"

He painfully turned his head to look back at her.

The look on her face gave way from anger to horrid realization of what she'd done.

He couldn't do anything other than ask why she did it.

She didn't have an answer, she just let go of the sword and put a hand over her mouth. It wasn't supposed to be like this. She was supposed to have a clear answer. Things were supposed to make sense, but they were just as senseless as before.

"I-I didn't, I mean." Her voice faltered. All she could feel was instant regret. It made her want to vomit, not that the blood staining his clothes helped with that.

"Morgan, why?" He felt the wound, and his fingers came back bloody. He was going to die very soon. She hit something important, maybe. He turned to face her.

She only said she was sorry.

He grimaced. Not a lot of time left. She was backed against the wall. He closed his eyes for a moment. "I'm sorry too."

She may have killed him, but he wasn't going to die alone. He placed his right hand on the handle of the sword, behind his back. With a yell, he charged forward.

She backed up against the wall, running over everything in her head. It was in the heat of the moment, she felt so angry. She reacted, badly. Seeing him now though, in this much pain, it was clear she never meant to hurt him like this. She didn't mean to kill him. He asked her why again.

She didn't know. She didn't have a reason, even in that moment. "I'm sorry." It was all she could say. He was going to die for no reason, and it was her fault. She killed him for no reason at all, and she couldn't even say she planned to do it. It just happened. She buried her head in her hands. She couldn't watch this.

She heard him say he was sorry too. God, the guilt was going to gnaw at her for the rest of her life, wouldn't it?

Then she heard him yell, and she removed her hands to see him charging toward her.

She felt the blade stab her stomach, and felt him try to drive it into her through himself. She cried out in pain, and tried to hit him off of her. She succeeded in getting him away, and he collapsed to the ground. She felt the wound he gave her, she was torn up a bit. She wasn't sure how bad it was, only that it hurt so much if felt like she was on fire.

He coughed up more blood. It was beginning to pool around his body on the ground. He looked up at her. She was in bad shape too. He didn't get it in as deep as she had, but the struggle tore some bloody lines in her abdomen. He hoped one of the cuts went deep enough to cut something vital. Hurt too much to smile, but be tried anyway. Payback was, after all, a bitch.

Morgan Matthew - DECEASED

She stumbled and fell to the ground as well. She felt her wound again, and discovered a lot more blood than before. He'd succeeded in cutting her just as badly.

She was going to die soon too. "No. Not like this. Please, no." She softly pleaded to the empty air. Tears filled her vision. The room started to grow dark, and she began to feel cold.

She didn't know how long she lay there on the ground, bleeding to death. For all she knew, it was only a few minutes or so, but it felt like an eternity.

She wracked her mind for an answer to why this happened. Some reason that everything occurred as it had. Nothing came to her. Even as her breaths slowed more and more, not a single clue as to why she acted the way she did presented itself.

As far as she could tell, things just happened. There was no reason for them after all.
