Midday Day 2; Open after Fen posts

Found in the center of a clearing in the woods is a lone tree with hundreds of shoes hanging or nailed to it. It is unknown who put the first collection of shoes on the tree, but it was thought to be in protest of some aspect of life on the island. Originally going untouched due to the anger of the leaders of the island's community, over time people started to add their own shoes to the tree until it became what is is now.

They had spent the first night half-intertwined in bed, wide awake, tripping, staring into each other's eyes and finding more there than would ever exist, the feeling of his lips on hers was still very there and present when she allowed herself a moment to remember, she was injured and his knuckles had been dusted in blood and she had yet to see bodies but she could feel them, smell them on the air, and yet.

And yet when Ace said he wasn't a boy scout, Ivy laughed. A short, breathless giggle. Unforced.

"Whatever you say," she said, her voice sweet and her smile genuine, for a single moment. It passed quickly. That was for the best.

She couldn't navigate by the sun in this weather, but she had the compass, and she had the map, and she had Ace's hand in hers. He was shaking, she thought, or perhaps it was her. It didn't matter.

She squeezed, and she walked.
