V6 Seventh Announcement

#1

Boris Petrikov was sitting in the arm chair in his quarters, just as he did at the end of every day.

He stared at the poster on the wall opposite to him as he choked down another shots worth of vodka. It was a vintage poster, made back in 1945 after the Chicago Cubs had won the World Series, their last win to date. His father had given the poster to him when he was a child, and even if he didn't watch baseball very often nowadays, it was still one of his most cherished possessions. He hoped that the Cubs would win another World Series in the next few years, if only so he would finally have something to talk to his father about, an honest heart-to-heart that they had not had in a long time.

He poured out another shot and downed it.

He sighed and rubbed his face, leaning forward in the chair and resting his head on his hands. No amount of reminiscing could save him from the fog that was clouding his thoughts.

Boris had thought that anything at all would have been better than being complacent with the stress he was going through. He was willing to do anything, no matter what it took, just for some peace of mind.

And then, when he had been at the end of his rope, an opportunity came seemingly out of the blue. A group of criminals had wanted his skills, and could pay more than enough money to take care of his family. He had thought that it would be okay, that since he had already committed a crime for the sake of his family, participating in this wouldn't make him much worse of a person. He was only doing this so he didn't wind up killing himself. His family wouldn't be able to survive without him, he didn't really have a choice in the matter, right?

And after all, it wasn't like he was personally murdering each and every child they kidnapped, right?

He poured out another shot and slammed it down his gullet, sighing in frustration.

How wrong he had been to think that.

Once he had seen the operation they were undergoing and how everything worked, the full ramifications of his involvement finally dawned on him. He was helping a terribly evil group of people be ever more efficient and resourceful in their efforts to murder children. Their blood was coating his hands, and they were all dying for what seemed like no real reason.

As much as he wanted to back out and seek an alternative, he was already in too deep. He had no choice but to do the job he was hired to do. Figure out the finances, make sure everyone else was doing their jobs, help with the tech side of things if need be, and figure out the kids' causes of death. He was a villain on a salary. Sure, he could show little bits of kindness here and there in ways that didn't really mean anything, but all that did was make him feel a bit better about himself. He was complacent, and all too comfortable with what he was doing, given how utterly horrific it was.

And he hated himself for it.

He moved to pour out another shot, but instead stared at the bottle of vodka in his hand, before lifting it to his lips and downing several gulps.

He sighed and placed his shot glass and the bottle back on the table next to him, done drinking for the night.

What would his family think if they knew what he was doing, where all of the new money was coming from? What would all of the families of the children he was helping to murder think of him? They would all probably think he was a horrible monster for ever agreeing, even if he didn't really have a choice, even if he didn't really want to hurt anyone.

And they would be right.

Boris picked himself up out of his chair and stumbled over to his cot, before throwing himself onto it and letting out a groan. There was no point in staying awake any longer now that he was drunk enough to be able to actually sleep.

So he laid there, staring at the ceiling, as the night overtook him.

Once the morning sun rose above the horizon, he would get up and get back to work, just as he did at the beginning of every day.

Another day had passed without event. That suited Tracen fine. The less things that happened in the final stretch was better for them, it meant they could focus on beginning their exit procedure and while they conducted their exit like a well-oiled machine the less distractions they faced the better. He stifled a yawn with his hand as he took his seat for the morning announcement. They were over halfway, there wasn't long now.

"Good morning children. I hope you are appreciating your life currently because as ever since the last time we spoke some more of you have moved on. It's tragic I know but that's life for you."

"So in the interest of time let's get things moving, shall we? Good, I'm glad you agree."

"Our first death today can also serve as a lesson. If you are going to challenge someone to a duel at least make sure your gun is loaded. Ben Fields found this out the hard way as Jeremy Frasier had no such issue."

"Next up Jeremiah Fury got into a fender bender with Serena Waters. As in he bent the fender and she was driving. A lot of the crew here were very happy to see those keys get put to good use."

He stopped and chuckled for the microphone. The last part was true, he personally hadn't cared either way, but there had been a lot of bets flying around involving the keys to the jeep.

"Another important lesson that I would have thought you all knew by now, but I guess some people just don't learn anything. Never turn your back on a known killer or you'll end up like Lily Caldwell who got an arrow in the back from Min-Jae Parker for her mistake."

"Hannah Kendrickstone was the next one of you to meet her end when Alessio Rigano suffocated her with a plastic bag. Points for brutality on that one."

"Say hello again and then goodbye to Jeremy Frasier who dared known killer Caedyn Miller to shoot him and...she did."

Tracen paused and shrugged to himself, playing up the event.

"I'm starting to think people that complain about you kids not getting the best education may be right."

"Amanda Tan met her final fate next as she forgot an important rule, double tap. Jonathan Gulley had no such issues however."

"In another slower kill today Georgia Lee Day was shot in the leg by Blair Moore and slowly, eventually bled out. Tragic, but maybe if any of you performed first aid, avoidable. What do I know though, I'm just the one sitting here watching you kill each other."

Tracen stifled another yawn and grinned to himself. He was sure that would get some of the students wound up, which was just what they wanted in the end.

"As always we have a new danger zone for you today and it is the Intensive Treatment Rooms. That's the basement of the asylum for those of you that haven't been paying attention. So, don't venture down into the darkness unless you don't want to leave."

"In the most important business of this morning, our Best Kill Award goes to Serena Waters. Your prize can be found in Water Treatment. You'll know which room it is because it says Water Treatment next to the door."
