The Gambling Den

Building off of Kami's wonderful thread for the goths, I thought it'd be a good idea to get an idea for who makes up the local Poker/Gambing circle in GHHS, as a fair few characters have mentioned it, and it makes for an interesting social link between characters who share little else in terms of traits.

So, do any of you characters gamble? If so, how often, and what games? And, for money or for fun?

Parker plays predominantly Poker, roughly once a week if there are games going on for him to play in. He prefers playing for money, and is a very tight, quiet player, rarely making splashy plays at the table.

Demetri's slightly infamous as a loser in that circle (along with all other circles and assorted geometries of GHHS), in his case more specifically because he's often late on payments when he gambles and tends to get kind of evasive. He does eventually pay back so he's not like, a pariah completely, but he's a perennial headache who's way worse at game than he thinks he is. He's big on poker and is a fairly average player, decent bluffer but often making poor calls with his betting pool.

Alton Gerow is a sporadic player. He plays for fun or in low-stakes games, and he favors Blackjack, partially because he's been quietly teaching himself to count cards, a skill he absolutely practices in friendly games. It's not a major hobby of his and he's not really in the clique, more a periodic guest, and he will turn up to Poker here and there if invited. If money is on the table, and Alton happens to be up a notable amount, he tends to intentionally throw in favor of someone down on their luck, put the pot towards refreshments for the whole group, or offer to "hire" whoever seems least okay with losing to give him tips to improve his game. Alton is a decent player but does not take the game super seriously and is prone to making erratic plays, for better or worse.

Phillip Olivares is totally into the idea of playing cards as long as money's not involved, but actually it's mostly about getting a ready-made audience for card tricks. He is much better at card tricks than card games; he lacks the patience and passion to really develop strategies or cultivate a deep understanding of any game, but he is surprisingly good at bluffing and misdirection.
