Oh, you did not just call me a bitch.

Mallory's fist was clenched and half-raised before she even knew what she was doing, but she managed to hold back. No fighting, she told herself. That was not how she did things. Even if the guy talking was an asshole.

Everyone else seemed to either be trying to stop the fight or just moving away from it entirely. That was a good idea. So Mallory fixed her stare on the angry, drunk/stoned guy and said, "Don't know what to tell you, then. I tried apologising. But whatever. I don't have to listen to this bullshit."

Then she turned around, intending to head over to where Susan was. This fight was stupid, anyway. Completely ruined her buzz.

While R.J. was lying face down, he could feel a part of his head throbbing. He was getting a little pissed about how all this stuff was knocking him down. And it didn't help that everybody else was acting like an idiot all of a sudden, and were only making things worse. Travis apparently can't keep his emotions in check, Mallory can't keep her goddamn mouth shut or her opinions to herself, Joey was out of his mind, there was some other chick who R.J. didn't know what she doing (but it was something dumb he presumed) and Claire, the only person besides Joey and Jaq he actually knew here, already left. And he got called Baby Ruth.

"This party sucks..."

R.J. also hated how he seemed he had to be the one to be Superman here, since everybody else was either incompetent or incapable. Maybe he didn't have any room to speak, but neither did anyone else. Even Jaq, who knew Karate of all things, didn't seem to want to completely stop him. Besides, even if she did, Travis was like the anorexic personification of Cocaine and he'd probably be broken like a stick. And now he wants to act like a tough guy by trying to beat up someone for an accident? R.J. got up yet again and went over to talk to this guy. Jaq already had her hand on his chest, stopping him as calmly as possible. R.J. stood next to the girl, only being a bit taller then the her.

"Hey, could you stop crying for a second and calm down? Everything is okay, see she's walking away..."

Maybe these weren't the best choice of words, but R.J. hoped they would be the ones to let Travis think about what he was doing.

Joey sat on the couch with his palms at each of his sides. His fingers opened and closed rythmically to the beat of the music as he intook everything he was sensing. His toes clenched and relaxed as he watched his feet.

Ruth and Jaq seemed to have a handle on the situation, and Travis wasn't much of a brawler. And even he could realize this was fucking stupid. Travis was probably just having a bad trip.

He took a swig of beer, its slight bitterness dancing on his tongue. As the foam rushed down his throat, he leaned back and enjoyed the sensation. Why couldn't everybody just calm the hell down?

---

Travis apologized for not being able to calm down. What?

Jaq stood her ground. She was the lightest of the three people present, but she'd scuffled before, and she wasn't afraid of embarassing Travis if he made an ass out of himself. Her arms were slightly extended at her sides. She, for once at a party, was happy not to be intoxicated.

Mallory asserted herself once more before calmly leaving. Baby Ruth appeared at Jaq's side.

"Hey, could you stop crying for a second and calm down? Everything is okay, see she's walking away..."

That was not a way to handle a raging bull. If Travis was determined enough to fight, he probably would. And now with little Baby Ruth coming in and telling him to quit crying???

She stepped in front of R.J as quickly as she could and gave him a little hush nudge. He was going to get himself decked.

"YOU are going to get the shit beat outta you," she turned to Travis, "And YOU are going to make an even bigger ass outta yourself for hittin' this kid."

She reached her arm out to put on Travis's side so she could forcefully walk him away from everybody. She pulled at him, sighing grumpily, wishing she could just get drunk and not deal with shit.

"Look, I'm not your fucking mother, but get a Godamm hold of yourself. You need to quit with the sensitive bitch stuff and just chill the hell out."
