5.

A cluster of plain gray buildings that once housed the soldiers occupying the island base. There isn't much to speak of in the barracks except for rows of cots, but it's an ideal place for a large group to horde up in... or the ideal place for an ambitious player to mow down the competition in.

(Nutbrown continued from Hold Me Closer, Tiny Dancer)

((OOC: Gah. If anything about this post glares out at you, let me know. I still don't feel so good. x_x))

...

Michael Hardy had said it was very complicated, why he wasn't going on the trip. Here he was, Michael Hardy, the ego-maniac party animal of Southridge High School and he was skipping out on THE senor trip. There must've been something wrong with him. In the months before the trip Hardy had been thinking deeply. He had been acting strangely, always moping around the school, listening to depressing love songs. That was about something else entirely, wasn't it? It had nothing to do with the senor trip. That's what Nutbrown had assumed so easily.

Yet he still stayed home. Michael had told no one but Nutbrown, and that was on the weekend before the trip. He had met Nutbrown outside of Shooters just by chance and asked if he wanted to hang out. Michael had been separating himself away from the cliques little by little so asking something like that out of the blue was unusual. Had he asked someone different they would have refused. Nutbrown accepted however. He didn't really care what Hardy was, or who he was becoming. It was Hardy, wasn't it?

Hardy told Nutbrown straight out the second they sat down at a table. Nutbrown's eyes kept grazing over to the dart board during the conversation but he knew the general idea: Hardy wasn't going on the trip. Family? The only family Hardy had was his brother Nick. And Nutbrown knew Nick wouldn't keep Hardy from doing anything, much less. Financial? Hardy was fucking rich. No, it wasn't that. Then what the hell could it have been? There was no reason Hardy shouldn't have gone. Did he just not want to go? Nutbrown's eyes stared at the table before asking a simple question.

It had something to do with that Van Asche, didn't it?

And Hardy stared at him for the longest time, not saying anything. Then with a smile, he nodded and said yes. And then told Nutbrown everything. He had nothing to hide. There was no reason to hold it back any longer and afterwards Nutbrown understood why he had been acting so strange for the past few months. Hardy was not the same Hardy as he was a year ago. He was different... better? No, he wasn't. He was a fool to believe that he could do anything in the world. Even though he had the air of someone who truly cared, deep down inside he was still the self-centered bastard everyone knew him to be. Only he was different. His ego had been crushed with a sledgehammer.

It all made perfect sense.

And yet, no matter how he tried, Nutbrown still didn't understand why Hardy wasn't here.

Why did Hardy have to survive? Nutbrown never did any of the shit HE did. Why did it have to be Nutbrown, Gabe, Steve, anyone here?

...

It didn't matter. Not one bit. What done was done.

...

It didn't occur to Nutbrown that he had just wandered into the barracks without thinking. There wasn't anyone there, which was a good thing. However, had there been someone there they would have caught Nutbrown completely focused on his thoughts and just about to run into a tree with a loud thunk. Then they would see him curse loudly and rub his head. This would have been the best time for someone to come up from behind him and slit his throat or make him suffer some other untimely demise. No people were around of course.

"Shit..."

He looked around suddenly, wondering where he was. He remembered the scene with Bobby, slitting that kid's throat as if it were paper. It brought on bad memories, memories that only made Nutbrown grimace. He grumbled, looked into the closest back (the first one of the row, in actuality) and since there was no one inside, took a seat inside. He yawned loudly, pressing his hand against his temple and yawned again.

He still had his cigarettes. He quit that shit the second he stepped on the bus and he hasn't pulled one out since. He lit the first cigarette up.

He didn't care, he was going to die anyway. Why worry? They let him keep them for a reason.

((Will Sigurbjornsson continued from Complicated Questions))

"Holy....shit!"

Will saw a bloody imprint of a person on a wall before he saw the body, and though it's features were nigh unrecognizable, he could tell it was the body of Gabriel Theobaldt if only by it's size.

Both of his legs were gone, blown to pieces across the barracks, and a hunk of shrapnel had ripped through his head and out the other end, tearing apart his scalp on the way. In between burn marks he was almost completely skinned, and his left arm was laying a few feet away. Despite the rather disgusting nature of the scene, Will could only help but smile.

"Gabe, this would be the point where i'd monolouge and tell you how your efforts were all for naught, but I think i'll just leave you here to decay."

He continued on his path, walking through the barracks. It was quite clear this had been one of the more chaotic places on the island. Three bodies littered the area directly in front of him. What looked like a girl's head was also nearby, much to Will's disgust. The stench of burnt, rotten flesh permeated the area.

But another smell wafted through from one of the buildings. Cigarette smoke. It could only really mean one thing.

The revolver almost instinctively was at the ready as Will followed the strong smell, into one of the buildings. Sitting down inside was... just some guy... smoking a cigarette. Will was a little dumbfounded. The guy didn't seem to really care about what was going on around him... at all... Will brushed his hair out of his eyes with his free hand, the revolver still trained on cig-man.

"Umm... Hey there..."

It had been so peaceful, just sitting in the barracks smoking. Nutbrown certainly didn't mind someone coming up to him while he was thinking to himself, pointing a gun in his face and speaking nervously (although the gun part had him worried) but he wasn't complete fine with the idea. In fact it was annoying to have a gun trained on him but Nutbrown was far too unconcerned to pull out his pistol out, not even if he knew how lethal the gun was.

"... Yo."

Nutbrown was not really familiar with Will Sigurbjornsson, none whatsoever. He knew him as "that Russian guy", although Will was actually Icelandic. Icelandic, Russian, whatever. Nutbrown didn't care back home so... he didn't care now, either. The only thing he did care about was that gun and even then it was enough to make a big fuss over.

Nutbrown's hair was down to the point where his eyes could still see Will, but Will's eyes in turn couldn't see his. He didn't smile - of course who would smile when someone was pointing a gun at you. His eyes stared at the gun for a brief moment and then turned back.

"... might as well point that gun somewhere else. Ain't no threat to you. Don't have any intention to play. Might as well shoot a squirrel or something."

Nutbrown turned his head for a moment and flicked the useless end of his cig into the corner of the barrack. He didn't turn to look at Will afterwards either. Eye contact was just something he never cared to learn.

"... what's your name?"

(Dawn continued from A Moment's Hesitation/The Pedestrian, Merged!)

Even with the knowledge that she was on a dangerous situation, where one of her fellow students maybe lurking in the shadows, waiting to kill her, the flora of the island was just too nice to ignore. Dawn was so intent on this endeavor that she lost track of Evan. When that revelation came to her, her body was stiff in place.

No...he was right in front of me. Where... no. She turned around, trying to find something, something at all.

At the corner of her eye, she saw a person going inside some barracks. But would it be a friend...or a killer like those girls back at the bridge? Dawn knew those girls, or at least had seen them in the hallway. Yet they were killing people they have known for at least

But Dawn was always an optimistic individual. So she rushed inside...

To come face to face with two boys, one of which was holing a gun. With the amount of noise she made when she went into the barracks, she saw that they instantly noticed her. She couldn't help but squeak in terror. Dawn never screams; she doesn't even know she only squeaks.

She wrote frantically on her sketchbook, not even checking to see if the gun changed targets. Within a second showed her message to Will: Please, don't hurt him!

((Evan continued from A Moments Hesitation...))

It was a lot rougher than Evan had anticipated when he decided to try and lead around the deaf girl. It was a constant battle in his head, as his brain would make him say things like, 'So hows it been?', before realizing she couldn't hear a word. The latest of these battles resulted in Evan losing track of the girl.

Dammit Dawn. Evan thought as he pulled the pistol he'd taken from her.

Quickly Evan searched the nearby trails for any indication of where she could have disappeared to, finally catching a glimpse of her heading towards an area that looked like the barracks. Evan sighed and jogged in her direction. She'd told him through the paper earlier that she was a nature bug, but she had to realize distractions like that might get her killed. As Evan closed the ground to where Dawn had stopped, two more figures came into his view, one of which was holding a revolver. Evan put his finger over the trigger of the Taurus, and stopped beside Dawn, who was now flashing her sketchbook message towards the boy with gun, who Evan could now see was that Russian kid Will.

Evan raised his gun and pointed it at Will. Though he had no intention of shooting, self-defense was always the best plan, just in case.

"So what seems to be going on here, gentlemen?"

(Bah. I'm sick. Might as well move Nutbrown out.)

Nutbrown peered out from the hut, sighing softly. "Evan... shit..." he grabbed his back from the floor, the cig still locked tightly in his lips. "Put that gun down. You ain't gonna kill anyone. Why don't you bend over for Gabe like you always do?" He shrugged and slipped past Will without another sound.

Will stared, angered, if not simply annoyed, by the fact that in mere seconds his wonderful position of power in the barracks with an apathetic waif and a deaf girl was quickly replaced with yet another mexican standoff, this time with Evan Angler pointing a gun at him. Will was quite clearly, not amused.

Suddenly Nutbrown got up and walked past Will and out of the barracks. Will might've killed him had he had more time, but now that Evan had a gun trained on him, it was not an option anymore. Of course, he could always kill Evan, and even the deaf girl if he had.... no, he wouldn't. It was a miracle she survived this far, Will didn't quite have the heart to do it. That, and Evan was a bit of a prick. Will wouldn't have qualms about this.

Though the prospect of a gun pointed at him was a bit of a problem. Will was quick, but not THAT quick. If he had some kind of distraction, something to draw Evan's attention while he...

Beep. Beep. Beep.

WHAT THE FUCK?! My collar is... their collars too? Danya didn't even tell us this was a dangerzone!

And so the Terrorist computer malfunction provided Will his golden opportunity. The ever-increasing speed of the collars meant that Will would have to act fast and be out of there quickly. Without warning he dropped down to the ground and fired the revolver straight at Evan's heart.

Die. Just. Fucking. Die.

Evan had already begun moving the minute the collar gave his first beep. Luckily for him too as Will fired straight at him. Ducking behind the door, Evan was able to avoid the bullet and keep running away from the barracks.

-----------

((Gabe continued from Night Diving))

Gabe had just kept running through the jungle until his collar stopped beeping. He slowed down as some new buildings came into his view. He stopped short when he heard the blast of gunfire, followed by..

"EVAN!!!"

-----------

Evan turned to see where the voice shouting his name came from and saw Gabe in the forest. He instantly bolted right towards where he standing.

"Gabe, turn and run dude, some asshole has a gun, trying to kill me!"

----------

Gabe turned on the spot as Evan neared him and began running slightly ahead of him.

"Dude, head for the quarry. If its not a dangerzone we can shelter up there"

Dawn was so immersed in the situation, hoping upon hope that Will didn't shoot Nutbrown. She has seen the pair before but that's it. Thanks to her deafness she wouldn't be able to name them. Even so, Dawn didn't wish for this to end in bloodshed.

When Evan came to the scene, Dawn justifiably jumped in fright. And flushed with relief afterwards. Evan, she thought, saying if capable, you found me. I knew you-

Dawn lost her concentration for at a second. In another second and that gun was aimed and fired in Evan's direction.

The girl was taken aback, falling flat to her knees. She was stun, unable to move. She just looked as Evan hightailed it, along with a person that just appeared.

Wait, why didn't he stop? Why isn't he notioning to me? She booked it out of that building, after regaining her senses. When she was in the open, behind Evan and Gabe, she began pondering upon Evan's reasoning. He didn't have time. Or that his mind was just preoccupied from shock. Or the fact that he meet up with someone he knew.

Or he doesn't want me around, Dawn concluded, a knife of pessimism penetrating. This creeping revelation wasn't pretty but she saw it as fact. Her legs halted and quivered. She watched as the pair continued off in the distance, deep in melancholy. Why would he? I wandered away and almost got shot on my accord. I've known him for only day and yet all I am...all I am is a burden.

So the deaf child ran in a separate direction. Many eye-catching floras rushed past Dawn. Yet she didn't stop. She didn't stop to bask in its presence, to draw silly, little sketches. For the first time, Dawn kept on running. Tears formed in her eyes as she sulked away.

The beeping on the collar ceased. Though the deaf child didn't notice.

Fuck!

Will missed, and now he was on the ground in the middle of a dangerzone. Not good. Even the deaf girl had gotten out of there by the time he had gotten up. Only just barely did he make it out of the dangerzone.
