The Rec Center

Established in late 1997 by a youth group with the combined charity of Mr. Vincent Grayston IV, the Rec Center was designed to give the neighborhood kids something to do after school in an effort to curve juvenile delinquincy. Upon its founding, the center served as sort of a Boys & Girls Club for the children in the neighboring counties whose parents worked full-time jobs and couldn't afford to or didn't want to hire a babysitter.

The Center offered basketball, softball, and other various sports. In addition, martial arts classes and a variety of other arts and crafts were taught at the Center. This was, of course, an instant hit, and many parents enrolled their children in the Center to give them some sort of after-school activity.

In late 2001, Mr. Grayston donated another large sum of money to the Rec Center as a tax write-off, and the Center used this money to expand, update, and become more than just a puny little Boys & Girls Club. By now, many other activities had come along for the younger generation of New Jersians, and now there was less to do for the teens, who were the most common cause of trouble anyway.

Armed with this knowledge, the charity organization expanded their complex to add two glistening pools to the premises (one indoor and one outdoor), as well as a large game-room with pool, foozball, and air hockey tables, and a large gymnasium for the Rec Center's visitors to work out in.

They still offer classes in various different crafts and trades, and martial arts and yoga, as well as pottery and basket-weaving, seem to be among the most popular of courses taken at the Rec Center. Sports are still offered here as well, and many students come down just to shoot some hoops or play a little foozball after school.
