Imprimatura

The most secluded and most secure of the second floor wards, solitary confinement is where patients who had been given up on were kept. Each padded cell would be used to contain a single high-risk patient. These patients would be cared for in that they would be given food and water, but beyond that they were left largely to their own devices. The corridor leading to the solitary unit has two gates down intersecting its length to ensure no one gets out, although both of these have been left unsecured (and, in the case of the second one, rusted away). The ward itself is sparse, with only a few gurneys and straitjackets left lying around. Heavy metal doors lead into each individual cell which can be bolted from the outside, however many of these bolts have rusted away or are flimsy enough that they're liable to break off in someone's hand.

The thought was a lonely and mute one, that if she'd spoken up about the windows she might not be standing here right now.

G047 : Florentina 'Tina' Luz
Start

Heavy, block-sized metal doors built with factory uniformity. They consumed the thoughts. Spartan, cold, lifeless design. The floor was also mostly sterilized, Tina's sneakers only squelched and squeaked against tile. When she'd woken it had been with a painful vise around the broad of the curvature of her skull. She'd quickly removed herself from the floor. The bag had been searched, it had turned up a discordant jumble of items. Some familiar, some not so. Some to stay within the bag, some to be held firmly in her hands.

It was a rod of a lush and organic iron, the sort that was rare to find if one only knew labs and school yards. Junkyards, museums, that was where Tina found metal that felt textured to the touch like this. The head was gnarled like the body of a fish, only foaming at the mouth and body with sharp pylons. Her grip remained firm as she slowly trudged from door to door, the weapon creaking back and forth, perpendicular to the broad of her hips. Her eyes met empty rooms. She coughed, the sound echoed off the walls in a dull manner, sounds seemed to half melt into the plaster and brick.

More rooms to check. Three, oddly oriented against her body on the cardinal axis.

She had to move, soon. She fully knew that there was nothing in here now. Just gates to pass, hanging open on hinges sheared to the bone.

((B040 JONATHAN GULLEY: V6 START))

Jonathan's eyes opened, but he saw nothing. What the hell? Why was everything dark? He lurched up and looked around. Nothing... Was he dead? Was this hell?

He sat up and rubbed his eyes. His hands moved from his face and patted downwards. He could feel himself, he breathed in. Yep, felt everything. Why was it so dark? Did he hit his head, was he blind? His fingers reached up and rubbed his eyelids. No pain. His eyes were still there. He got up and walked around, arms outstretched. Moving around, he felt concrete walls. As he felt around, he had bumped into the sink. Stepping back he almost tripped over the bed.

Sitting up, he rubbed his hip. Well, this sucks. At least he knew where he was at. Some sort of prison maybe? Should probably get out of here.

Feeling around the walls, he felt something rusty and metal. Freedom incoming! Jonathan fingered around the door, before finding the opening to it. He'd wrap his fingers around the door an- a faint light! He wasn't blind! Yes!

Reflexively Jonathan hit the door, cheering. They were cut short when he reeled back and rubbed his hand. Damn, that hurt. Shaking his hand, he wrapped his fingers around the opening.

Pushing with all his might, light flowed into the room, he could now see the bed, and the small black bag next to it. He turned his head back to the bag, he'll open it in a moment.

"Come on." Jon gritted his teeth as he continued to push on the door. It stopped. Jon pushed again. No budging.

Oh shit...

''ANYBODY THERE?!" Jonathan pressed on the door, trying to get out, trying to fit through, trying anything. Oh god he was trapped in this prison he was going to die here, oh god it's dark, let me out, I want out, God please no! "HEY!" "HEEEY!"

There was nobody there. One last time, please. Please let this work.

((B006: Barry Banks- Start))

Barry Banks was not in very high spirits.  He had woken up about ten minutes ago before in what appeared to be a prison cell.  He had been waiting there ever since, hoping that someone would show up to help him or give him some advice.  He knew that he was in Survival of the Fittest, as well as all that entails, but after that, there was nothing aside from waking up in the cell.  He just kept clinging to the hope that there was some way out of this.  Maybe some lone hero would open that door and conscript him to help save everyone.  Yeah, that would be cool.

After a few more minutes of waiting, he heard something.  Sounded like footsteps.  Maybe someone was coming for him after all.  Of course, there was also the possibility that it was one of the terrorists coming by to deal with him.  The more he thought about it, the more disappointed Barry was with himself.  He was just sitting there waiting for something to happen to him.  He wished that he had taken initiative sooner.  But the door to the cell looked so sturdy.  It was a surprising deterrent.

Another sound came, this one much louder.  Barry immediately perked up when he heard it.  Someone was shouting, calling for help.  He wasn't alone here.  There was someone else, someone desperate.  Whoever they were, they needed help.  Barry's legs started tapping on the ground as he heard them cry out.  He had just been thinking to himself about how he needed to be more proactive, and now was his opportunity.  He could make up for his past few minutes of inactivity.

Barry slipped his bag over his shoulder and rushed the door to his cell.  The door surprisingly gave little resistance, but the weight of it still required him to use a significant amount of force to get out.  After about a half-minute of wrestling with the massive metal barrier, Barry was able to get out of the room.  Once Barry had escaped the enclosure, he heard the sound of small metal pieces falling to the ground.  He looked back and saw a few extremely rusted bolts near his room's door.  This area was in far worse shape than he had thought.  When he heard the pleading voice again, he took off in the direction of the noise.

Barry ran down the ruined hall to find whoever it was that was calling out to him.  He stopped at the next corner and looked around, hoping to deduce the location of the caller.  In desperation, he shouted as loud as he could, hoping to get a response.

"HELLO!  IS ANYONE THERE?  DO YOU NEED HELP?"

[[ Aiden Slattery continued from One For Sorrow ]]

Fucking goddamnit. He should have known minutes ago, should have known once he had started going downstaris, for flippity's sake. He had no idea where he was going and honestly, the further he was going, the more he wanted to turn the fuck back and go all the way back the way he came.

Like, for real, what'd he expect, passing by a frickin' rusty ass metallic gate, path to freedom or something? Like, if this was a hoax, which he was still pretty damn sure about, then those crafty bastards really had made sure to make the most convincing hoax ever, so they had. Like, place looking like no soul had passed through this dump in ages or something, stuff and junk lying around - that was a frickin' straightjacket over there, right? Fuck, talk about commitment. This place was giving him straight up creeps, yup.

Yeah like, what the fuck had he been thinking. He was getting nowhere fast, if they were waitin' somewhere, ready to clear up the whole thing or something, it prolly wasn't gonna be there. Yeah, way too dark down here too, all musty and smelly-nelly and shit, time for him to get his ass out of there. Maybe go round the left corner this time instead of-

Holy shit. Fucking hell man, someone was definitely screaming his ass off somewhere back there. Like, more like yelling or some shit, but somebody was there, no dizzedi doubt about it.
He had already halfway turned around to walk back, now turning right back again, facing the unknown before him. Shit, how far in there did this thing go? Coulda almost sworn there was-

Fuck, more now. Someone was running, frickin' footsteps going really fast, more yelling. Goddamn. Alright, alright, looked like he had no choice. Some peeps were back there and they either needed help or were really excited about something or some shit, he had no clue. He had to get there though. No way he was gonna ignore that.

Aiden rubbed his own temples with his hands real quick, then grabbed his duffel bag tightly and started sprinting towards where the voices where coming from.

A voice called back. A voice called back!

"Y-Yeah! Door's stuck!"

There was help, he was getting out of here!

"I think it's rusted shut!"

Jonathan sighed in relief. Once he got out he could- wait, but this wasn't just trapped in a room. He was in SOTF. Oh god... Jonathan shook his head. Not now. The task at hand was getting out of this Edgar Allen Poe trap.

"Listen man, if you're coming to help me, I don't know how to repay you, but help is very, VERY appreciated!" Jonathan hoped that didn't come off as rude or condescending. He'd really hope someone would help him out right now.

"I-I think I can get out if someone gives me a hand!"

Just a dream, just a dream, just a dream.... No, it was not a dream at all. This was a nightmare.

((G014: Scarlett McAfee - Start ))

Scarlett really couldn't believe that this was happening. She couldn't believe that everyone and herself was stuck in some twisted game. This was cruel. She wished that she could just wake up and be back at home. But she knew that wasn't going to happen. She was being foolish and hopeful for a few seconds. She had been sitting in a room for a while since she had actually woken up. She hadn't moved since as she wrapped her arms around herself and she cried a little.

She truly believed that she was in danger after what happened to Mr. Graham. How could she not think she would be safe after that? And also her friends were here as well. This was making her feel queasy and she wanted to get out of that dark room. To run away.... And then what? What could she do? Maybe she could search for friends and-

Scarlett gasped softly as she could hear voices and footsteps outside. Were they friendly? She wasn't sure what to do at first. She wanted to check. What if it was Jerry or someone else? She couldn't hide away forever. She had to move and at least try to survive.

Scarlett slowly got up to her feet and took a step forward, slightly nudging her bag that she could barely see in front of her. She reached down and picked it up with her left hand, letting it dangle at her side. She wasn't going to open it. She didn't want to know what weapon that she had. Not yet. Unless she had to protect herself when it was neccesary.

Scarlett held out her spare hand and she cautiously opened the door. There was people still shouting. Scarlett was normally loud herself but she didn't want to make that mistake and possibly get attacked by someone. She took a quiet step out of the room.

"H-Hello...?" She whispered as she glanced around worriedly.

((Okay, we probably need to come up with a solid posting order))

The voice came back! Not only that, but they were close! Barry ran to the door where he could hear the other person calling from. He put his ear to the door and listened to them intently, nodding to confirm that he understood even though they couldn't see him. He examined the door while they explained the situation.

"Yeah, this door's looking pretty rough. The rust's definitely not making things any easier for you." He knocked on the door to make sure that he had their attention. "All right, I'm gonna help you out of there. We just gotta work together to get through this door, all right?"

As Barry rubbed his hands together to get ready to work on the door, he caught sight of a brown-haired girl down the hall. He beckoned to her and called out. "Hey! We got a guy in trouble over here! We need help!"

The noises had been accompanied by the harsh, shrill register of metal rambling and rattling. Tina had remained cautious, her muscles only barely primed to move. Before a number of faces sketched from unknown stock and source appeared. An athletic body with thin, silky jawline was shouting. First at nothing in particular, then at her. She felt the rough-hewn body of her nameless weapon press into the flesh of her thigh tightly. She then felt it relax. Her steps were small, ankle to foot, they didn't carry her far before another face poked out of one of the cells she had yet to check. A soft, all Americana sort of face carved into a heart around the base of her hairline. Two cells left unknown.

"H-Hello...?"

Tina's sidelong glance was infinitesimal. Could have been measured by the smallest increments on a stopwatch.

She marched briskly, the floor continued to squeak beneath her sneakers. Their age betrayed, shoelaces peeling and fraying into the ether. The noises were still loud, but the syllables seemed to more clearly define themselves into approximations of human speech. Phonetically. 'Re', 'ruh', so on and so forth. Tina felt the weight of her collar shift slightly, smooth bore metal pressing straight into the flat contour of bone and tendon. When she breathed in that moment she could feel the collar rise and fall. Then it was gone, and she was at Barry's side.

Wordlessly she waited as he rubbed his hands together. It was an oddly picturesque scene and sound, the slight matchstick etch of palm on palm.

((Sorry for posting out of order, Kind of jumped the gun a bit there.))

"Oh my God, thank you!" Help came, and it seemed like more was coming. "I'm pretty sure it's the rust, yeah!" He turned, and looked through the room.

He almost forgot his bag. He'd be as good as he was outside as he was in here if he didn't bring that along with him.

"I don't know how they got me in here, but, there's gotta be a way out since they did!" After all, the door couldn't have rusted over night, right? Still, this is way too scary to start off. If nobody came, he'd be...

Jonathan shuddered as he put his hands on the door again.

"All right, give me the signal to push!"

((All right, getting settled into the order now.))

Barry clapped his hands twice in response to the man behind the door. "All right, just give me a moment to get a grip, and we'll be good." He surveyed the door. There was one large slot that he could see through, probably meant to send meals and the like to inmates. Barry slipped his hands through and managed to get a grip on the door. "Watch out, don't hurt my fingers."

He turned to Tina. "All right, find a grip and pull on my go. We're breaking him out of there." He focused his attention back on the door. "Okay, we're almost ready out here, just listen for my word."

Barry took a deep breath. "3..." He felt his muscles tensing up. "... 2... " He gritted his teeth. "... 1..." He tightened his grip further.

"GO!"

Yup, whatever the fuck was going down, it was going down further down that poorly lit way he was going - yippie. Not like he would have wanted to get out of this hellhole fast, get some fresh air and clear his head. Instead, he had to deal with some peeps apparently not getting this wasn't real, panicking or some shit.

Closer he came, the louder the voices became - like, duh, obviously that was gonna happen. Still couldn't make out what they were saying though. Definitely sounded like a dude though - no wait, more than one voice, they didn't sound the same. Sausage fest going on back there? Well, didn't mind if he joined.

He continued jogging down the hallway, though at a slower pace, passing another rusted gate in the process. Damn, that place really was a dump. Wondered where he was, island his ass, they weren't getting to him with that, no way on the subway. Prolly just some old barrack or something, in some slum area somewhere. Almost expected to run into a gang of hobos any second now. Though they had prolly taken care of that beforehand, given them a nickel and send them to a coffee shop or some shit.

He was getting real close now, could hear them more clearly. One voice was a bit lower than the other, belonged to a dude, no doubt about that anymore, but like, muffled or something. Prolly not cuz the guy had a paper bag over his head or some shit, though that woulda been kinda hilarious, really. Aiden was kinda surprised at himself, with him still feeling all willy nilly and stuff - well, not really, but he just wasn't buying all this, so he'd try and have a little fun at least, make the best outta this shitty fucking joke of a prank.

Alright, alright, almost there. End of the hallway looked like he was running into a dead end at first, but nah, there were turns for him to take, cut the corner and shit. Prolly not too hard figuring out where the other broskis were, just follow his instinct and like, the sound. Easy peasy.

Finally, he reached the other side of the corridor, now faced with the choice of going left or right. Shouting from the left. Problem solved. Sounded like they were doing a counter or something - yeah, counting down, so they were. What was that now? Eh, whatevs, he'd find out any second now.

Letting out a small sigh, he started jogging towards the now very audible source of the voices. Yeah, time to see what all the fuzz was about.

Scarlett had been surprised when she saw the girl at first and she let out a sigh of relief as the girl was heading towards a boy who was asking for help. It seemed like someone was trapped. That was a scary thing to happen to someone. Maybe she should go over and help them out. It was better for her to at least have some friends than to make enemies. She knew that.

She was hesitant to move from the door as she hear someone's footsteps. She tightened her grip around her bag and she bit her lip. She knew that she shouldn't get paranoid but she couldn't help it. They were in a crappy situation and she knew that sooner or later people would stab each other in the back to survive and go back home. Scarlett didn't want to think about that. She wanted to be positive and hopeful. But it was hard to be.

Scarlett forced herself to smile when she finally moved and the door creaked as it closed behind her. It made her jump and her heart was beating faster. She had to stay calm. She didn't want to freak out more.

Scarlett started to approach the others and she hoped that she wasn't making a mistake. If she was about to see anything bad happen.... Then she would possibly try to get away. That would be the best option for her to do.

Eyes were pointed her way briefly, she met them only with the flesh, round cusp where her thin eyelashes nested. More words that melted into sweet static. Three clear, stabbing the eardrum in drum rattles of punctuation. One, and two, and three. Other way around.

Her fists remained tight, clenched vises threatening to split her knuckle along the seam. One hand warbled, tendons bouncing hesitantly. Tina wasn't especially sure. A second later on the noiseless downbeat where a sharp, crisp bark split the air between herself and the tall body beside her, her hand sprang. One hand. The other continued to strain mercilessly against the weight of a pole. It steadily dripped, drooped off the firm axis it had been formerly welded into. That she noticed most. Elsewhere, her fingernails dug into rusty iron just enough so her dully rounded nails began to buckle, splinter as they found a place to be among many. The effort felt unwieldy, halfhearted, one where her body tipped and bowled and shuddered more than the door ever could.

Muscles beside her seemed to flow effortlessly. They seemed to somehow give their all, every bead of sweat drawn glistened as a coin.

Jonathan pushed on the gate, but it wasn't budging. Oh God no, please no, don't be stuck please no.

Creak.

No way.

Creeeaaaak.

It was working. IT WAS ACTUALLY WORKING, YES! FUCK YES!

Jonathan placed his feet along the wall behind him, using it as leverage as he continued to shove the gate. The gate slowly slid open, before a jolt sent Jonathan flailing to the ground.

WHAM!

Jonathan sat up to his knees and looked towards the doorway. He had rubbed his head for a moment as he saw his rescuers. There were at least two at the door, along with more footsteps coming from the hallway. He could hear clearly, now that the metal door wasn't blocking him anymore. Barry Banks and Tina Luz were already there, he didn't get the chance to see who the others were just yet. For right now, he free and he was thankful. Very, very, thankful.

"That... wasn't fun."

Barry pulled as hard as he could, despite his awkward grip on the door slot. He tried to keep a strong stance and brace his feet against the ground to send more power to his arms. He focused intently on the door and stared at it intensely as he continued to pull at it with all the force he could muster.

That was when it happened. He heard the door's hinges creaking. He could feel it starting to give way. he tightened his grip further, despite feeling the incredible strain on his fingers. He leaned pack and pulled his arms back as hard as he could, doing some sort of reverse lunge in an attempt to break through the door's last defenses.

Thankfully, the combined force of the three students managed to break through the rusty barrier, and the door swung open. Barry released the door slot, but was now falling backwards with no way to stop himself. He tried to brace himself for the fall as he collapsed against the floor, thankfully not hitting his head too hard on impact.

Barry sat up, rubbing the back of his head. He saw the one who had been trapped behind the rusted door, the small yet instantly recognizable figure of Jonathan Gulley. He said the first thing that came to mind once he was no longer recoiling from his fall.

"Oh, hey Jonathan."
