Too Late

Making up most of the northern part of the island, the woods are deep and dark. Spreading second-growth trees, mainly fir and pine, block much of the light from reaching to the ferny undergrowth. Moss hangs thick from the branches, testament to the dank and moisture-laden air, while the occasional deer path shows that many animals still make this forest their home. These woods are those on the inland part of the island’s eastern side, and slowly angle upwards towards the island’s central mountain.

((Sorry about not giving you a chance to post, Kami, but I have to wrap this up quickly))

Josee's hand on her shoulder made Katelyn smile. She'd been unsure if her speech had been any good, but at least Josee thought it was. Now all that was left was to see if they'd reply. Katelyn tried to peer through the trees as she waited.

She didn't have to wait long. Soon the whispering voice was replaced by a shout.

"We don't want to hurt you either! I'll toss out my weapon, it's not that good!"

They weren't killers! They weren't crazy! Katelyn had actually managed to find some more people on this island who didn't want to play the terrorists' sick game. Her smile broadened, and she started to raise her megaphone back to her mouth to thank them.

Suddenly she was stopped by a silver disk flying from the location of the voice. It didn't look real, like it was some kind of special weapon from a silly game, a giant shuriken or something. She flinched and tried to move aside, but it was too late.

Katelyn stumbled backwards, the disk flew past her, and she fell to the ground.

A quiet splash sounded amplified to her ears. Slowly and fearfully, she raised a hand to her neck. One quick touch and she drew her hand back swiftly, letting out a soft gasp. Her fingertips were covered in blood. She had felt that gash in her neck. Slowly the pain grew apparent, intensifying with every throb.

A moment passed, and then Katelyn started to scream. She held her wound with both hands, desperate to stop the flow of blood. Her mind grew dull as the flow washed over her fingers. She fell to the forest floor, her face pressed against the droplets that had already fallen. Tears ran sideways down her face as she gave a final sob. This shouldn't be happening. She had so many things she had to do. She was still needed.

How selfish this is of me...

Back home a family cried together.

Katelyn and the other people started communicating. Yes! They were getting along just fine. It wasn't as if they had some sort of weapon, right? Apparently one of them did, but they said it wasn't very good. In fact, they were going to toss it over to show them.

And what happened next was like something out of a bad Japanese cartoon.

Remy wasn't sure what had happened next. But a shiny gleam brushed past Katelyn's neck, and he could see a red splotch on it. Oh jesus, what was happening? They attacked her, didn't they?

"Katelyn!" Remy shouted, as she put her hand to her neck, apparently realizing what had happened.

And that's when she screamed.

Remy felt a chill down his spine watching her on the ground and sobbing. Before he and his sister could do anything, she laid completely still, her blood pooling from her neck.

They killed her.

Those two. Murdered her. Liars. Psychopaths.

Just like Kris.

They were bad people.

Remy felt his heart race and his eyes began to tear up again. Assholes. Something had to be done... they lied to them. They attacked her. Attacked them. Remy didn't even know what had been thrown at them, but whatever it was, it got her.

He reached into his pocket, and without warning pulled out his switchblade.

"Josée, stay back. Let me deal with this", he said quietly.

Remy slowly walked towards where the voices came from. But after a few seconds, he stopped and took a deep breath.

Then he ran towards the source at full blast.

They weren't getting away with this. Not them. Not Kris. Not Danya. Not anyone.

Tears ran down his face as he ran.

Fuck them. Fuck those two. He was going to get them. Get them both. Make sure they suffer. They deserved to suffer. They were murderers.

"We don't want to hurt you either! I'll toss out my weapon, it's not that good!"

Josée thought that that sounded promising, although just be a cunning trick; but then again, at this point anything could be a cunning trick. All it would take is a simple shot in the back of the neck to take her out. But for now, she would just to keep her cool. All the same though, she took a cautious step back from the direction that the voices had come in. I silver, spinning object flew out of the trees. It didn't take long for Josée to realise that it was just a record, that is, she had plenty of time to identify it... Once it was clipped by her friend's throat.

Josée leapt away from her in shock at the sight. She had to do something. But what? What the Hell could she do? She started to panic. Josée had not expected anything like this to happen. But it was just a cut, granted it was an extremely large cut and a lot blood was rushing out, but it was an accident, and accidents don't happen this badly.

A thought suddenly struck Josée; the first aid kit! There was a first aid kit in the bag she was given, this was her only chance to save her. Thankfully her bag was still on her back so she instantly thrust it off onto the floor and began to fish through it, chucking out everything in her way, trying desperately to find it. Finally she pulled it out and began to unzip the items inside. Josée had had very little knowledge of first aid, but like many other people before her who had been in similar situations, she felt a sudden desire to learn in the next five seconds.

But even five seconds would have been too long. Josée looked at Katelyn and instantly realised that she was already dead, Josée picked up her wrist just to make sure. Nothing. Josée looked up at Remy remorsefully, but Remy's attention was focused on the source of the record.

"Josée, stay back. Let me deal with this"

He was running into the forest, he was after them, he had his switch-blade out. He did realise that it was an accident, right? Josée couldn't just stand there mourning over Katelyn when there could be more corpses about to hit the ground. Josée wasn't sure exactly who will be killed if she didn't do something, but she could work out that it was probably going to be someone.

Josée ran off in the direction of her brother, leaving everything but her blackjack littered by Katelyn's corpse. Not knowing exactly what to do. But she just hoped that the last thing she did on this island wasn't to take a bullet for her brother's own stupidity.

Silence.

Joe stood there, his eyes closed. Maybe he was meditating or uttering a spell or something. He didn't seem to be as angry as he was just a moment ago. But somehow it seemed that the act of falsely discarding his weapon didn't satisfy him as much as Cisco had hoped. And "not as much as hoped" meant he'd have to go fetch it himself, rather than have Joe bring it back with his 'mystical powers and shit,' otherwise he would have already had it back by now.

"Right, I guess I should go fetch my weapon then..." Cisco said awkwardly, before taking a deep breath.

He peered into the foliage realizing he would have to do this by himself, and started to trudge into it, holding the paper sleeve of his sweet, deadly musicmaker close to him as he went in toward the general direction of where he thought he threw his precious 'vinyl.' This island was supposed to be inhabited only by the students, right? So it wasn't as if there were some gigantic grizzly bear roaming around just eating everyone. Maybe it was a legendary chupacabra or one of Death's paranormal-supernatural drinking buddies. Maybe it was some evil smoke monster guarding the entrance to Danya's secret lair. He looked up through the foliage into the reddening sky. It beautiful to the point of distraction.

Indeed, Cisco's upward glances and wondering about what sort of fantasy or television-inspired creature lurked about these mysterious forests kept his constantly whirling thought processes lovingly distracted against the thought of what real people might really be lurking through them right now.

Such as the person suddenly appearing from behind one of the trees and running in the general direction of where he'd thrown the weapon. The first thing that undistracted the spaced-out goalie was the sound of footsteps nearby, at which point he turned his head down to notice the guy practically next to him, about to run him the fuck over. It wouldn't be the first time he'd only noticed something a split-second before a nasty surprise.

"Hey-" was all Cisco could say before deja vu suddenly had its metaphorical way with him and left him metaphorically whimpering, curled up on metaphorical bedsheets while deja vu smoked a metaphorical cigarette and tossed him a couple of 20s for being so cooperative.

He didn't realize that he'd been bumped into by someone running like a goddamn mountain until he was on the ground, face-down and dazed.

((Ash Morrison continued from The Moon is Laughing at You))

With quiet steps, Ash approached the corpse. It was her first time seeing a dead person up close. She wondered briefly why she wasn't feeling nauseous or sick at all before snapping back to the situation. What had happened? The deceased's throat has been slashed across one side. The girl's friends had run off to catch her killer. There was nothing stopping her from looting the body right now. So, why wasn't she doing that right now?

Going near it was hard for her. It wasn't decency that stopped the blonde, although that played a part in her aversion. It was her fear of the dead. As silly as it sounded, Ash felt that corpses reminded her of herself. Their cold and lifeless eyes were just like hers...

No. Don't think about it. Just get what you need.

Ash looked around. There wasn't anybody nearby. With a mix of fear and revulsion, she forced herself to move closer. It was too difficult to go near it when she could see the body, so she closed her eyes and inched forward step by step.

It isn't you. You're alive, she isn't. Stop feeling bad and take her gear already.

Her shoe bumped against something. She opened her right eye slowly, only to be a bloody sawblade hidden among the dead leaves on the ground.

Is this the murder weapon?

She considered taking it. Her carbide lamp wouldn't be enough to fend off others, although this weapon could easily cut her if she tried to slice somebody with it. Maybe if she threw it at somebody...

Ash looked around again. Still nobody. She kneeled down, and used her sleeve to protect her hand as she picked up the sawblade.

((Third time's the charm. Thanks Laz and Kami for clearing things up.))

Joe opened his eyes.

Cisco, the idiot, was going to get his sawblade. So far, so good, except a girl seemed to have beaten him to it. Cisco wasn't the most observant person out there, though, so Joe didn't pay this much mind.

Until someone, namely Remy Kim, barreled straight into Cisco. That was where things got interesting.

Shit, shit, shit, what do I do... Joe wasn't expecting Remy, of all people, to be among the group that Cisco had made very, very angry. The man was seriously turning into a millstone around his neck; he had hoped to have Remy as an ally.

He had one option: get out. Cisco wouldn't forgive him, but he had a feeling Cisco wasn't long for this Earth anyways, so it wasn't too big of a deal.

He hefted his daypack up and crept out of the area.

Please God don't notice I'm gone, please God don't notice I'm gone... Joe was breaking out in a cold sweat. He had a scythe, but if Remy had a gun, he was thoroughly fucked in a way not many others could manage.

Remy was only focused on the act of running. It was like back in baseball. Oftentimes his mind was only focused on the bases, and nothing else. It was in a way exhilarating. And it was funny how he was thinking about that now. He had a feeling Josée was following him, but he didn't pay any attention.

And suddenly, he saw another person.

Cisco Vasquez.

Wasn't he that attention whore kid?

In any case... it was him who did that. Wasn't it? God fucking damn it, Cisco. Remy always thought that he had some sort of issues. Now it was pretty much flat-out confirmed.

"Hey-" he heard the guy say, but before either of them knew it...

Remy felt himself collide with the soccer player and falling to the ground stomach first. His knife fell out of his hands, landing just a bit away from him, not even set straight.

Oh god, he literally ran into him.

Not only that, but he dropped his fucking knife.

Remy quickly looked around. Oh god, where was it? Cisco was going to kill him too. And not only that, but Remy wanted to make sure that he didn't get away with it.

Someone was running away, but he couldn't tell who it was. Deal with Cisco first, then go after him.

Suddenly, he found the blade's handle, and quickly grabbed it. After quickly sitting back up on his knees, he pressed the button on its side, causing the blade to extend.

Breathing heavily, he pointed the blade towards Cisco.

"Asshole!" he spat out.

Tears were once again running down his face, and along with the dirt stung his eyes. Remy was so pissed off right now, it wasn't even funny. Seriously, Cisco was probably showing off or something, and thought it would be a good idea to lie to people and throw lethal objects at them. Son of a bitch! He was probably going to deserve what came to him.

Josée struggled to keep up with Remy, she met him just as he had grappled a boy to the ground and was about to puncture his throat. How could her brother be doing this, granted Katelyn's death was horrible and unfair but it was an accident, a horrible and fatal accident but an accident nonetheless. Josée had to do something. She dropped beside where Remy had pinned the boy and grabbed his knife-wielding arm.

"Don't you go psycho on me Remy." She knelt right next to him and spoke angrily. "Trust you to do something like this. It's not like he meant to do it." Josée turned to the pinned heap below Remy. "You didn't mean to kill her right." She didn't wait very long for a response. "At least give him a chance to explain himself..." Josée suddenly realised that he might actually have meant to have killed Katelyn. She clutched her Blackjack tightly, ready to swing it just in case, and not necessarily at the pinned boy. "So explain yourself." She said to him. "I promise that my dunce of brother won't hurt you if you start talking now." She turned to Remy sternly. "Right, Remy!? You won't will you." She was still clutching his arm, just in case he tried to stab the boy when Josée let her guard down.

As she picked up the sawblade, Ash heard the beginnings of a fight somewhere in the distance. Looking in the direction of the noise, she could make out a girl holding onto somebody behind some trees. The girl seemed to be saying something, but her words were only barely audible.

"... psycho.... Remy.... kill her..." She carefully walked towards them, hiding behind a tree as she did.

"I promise that my dunce of brother won't hurt you if you start talking now."

No more delays. Ash had to get out of there quickly. She went back over to the corpse of the unfortunate girl, averting her eyes from the dead body as she did. What could she take? What could she get away with in time?

Ah, darn it. She would just have to take the food and water while the girl and that boy were preoccupied.

"Asshole!" It didn't take the saliva spat out by whoever bumped into Cisco Vasquez and knocked him to the ground, taking the sleeve of the vinyl with him.

There was a very angry Remy Pierce on top of him, pointing a very shiny blade directly at his throat. He had that look in his eyes that probably said something like "Hello, my name is Remy Pierce. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Whichever of his classmates was his father or the equivalent. It wasn't as if Cisco could tell with that very shiny blade pointed directly at his throat ready to kill him before he could scream.

Painfully enough, this would be that part of the minion's life where he would be groveling for mercy and casting the blame off to someone else before the hero either spared him and told him he wasn't worth killing (at which point he would try to kill the hero and end up getting killed anyway), or just got killed outright. That was unless Death came to intervene, but that was usually at the very last moment, and the fuck if Cisco could wait what with A GODDAMN SHINY BLADE ABOUT TO TEAR HIS FUCKING THROAT OPEN.

He wanted to call for Joe. He even opened his mouth to try to despite the apparent risk of having a sudden spasm of his Adam's apple bring his throat up to the knife before the knife went down on his throat.

But then somebody else appeared. Somebody that wasn't Joe.

"Don't you go psycho on me Remy," the new girl said. "Trust you to do something like this. It's not like he meant to do it."

Throwing the record out didn't seem like such a bad idea. It wasn't as if he'd actually killed anyone with it, right?

"You didn't mean to kill her, right." she then asked, before turning to Remy as if he was her trained attack dog, "At least give him a chance to explain himself..."

"Kill her!? OhgodwhatdididowhatdidIDO!" he exclaimed before regressing into the frightened mutters of a cornered animal.

It wasn't hard to see Cisco starting to sweat quite profusely. After all, the possibility that the 'record' he threw out might have actually killed someone quite painfully and gruesomely had only dawned on him just now. But he still couldn't imagine a thin plastic disc actually slicing someone in two or even decapitating them. Unless of course...it had been 'powered up' by some external force. Truly the machinations of Death (from a mind filled with a bit too much television, anyway) were beyond his understanding!

So explain yourself." She said to him. "I promise that my dunce of brother won't hurt you if you start talking now."

"Death...Joe...I did his bidding..." he sputtered, trying to force a smile, "I didn't think I'd kill anyone with it..."

Actually, he kinda sorta did. When you were in the service of the Grim Fucking Reaper, you would be expected to help with the fucking reaping. Not that he didn't fear that Remy wouldn't believe his little gray lie and then slit his throat on the spot. He moved one arm out toward the sleeve of his 'vinyl,' which had fallen to the side and lay sprawled across the dirt in all its sickeningly retro colorful glory.

He turned his head as much as fear would allow given the blade still close to his throat. He would have then proceeded to point directly at the sleeve for not being able to reach it and make whatever case his turbulent mind could put together in some feeble attempt to save himself. But in turning his head at just the right angle that possibility vanished altogether as he spotted someone just beyond the trees. He couldn't make out who it was...but he could definitely spot what that person was holding.

"Oh God...she's taking it!" At this point, his penchant for hysteria had devolved into hysterics. "She's taking my music!" he shouted, just eyeing what looked to be a girl carrying that large, circular (and bloodstained) glinting object he had somehow deluded himself into thinking was his original Carol Channing record. "She's taking my music!" he said again, already sobbing close to incoherent.

((Breaking post order to avoid inactivity))

"Death...Joe...I did his bidding..." The boy helplessly spurted out. "I didn't think I'd kill anyone with it..."

Josée sighed angrily at Remy. "There you go! you've only gone and tackled the bloody hostage you idiot." Josée continued to try and push Remy off the helpless boy. Josée took a second to think. "Awww, great! That means there was someone out there trying to kill us!" She turned back to the boy. "Did you see which direction he went in? Whichever way it was, I say we go the other! Right Remy?! Remy! Ok?!" She shouted at him, then relented slightly. "I'm sorry that Katelyn had to die like that but let's be honest. Whoever was trying to kill us has probably ran off by now. There's no point in killing his own victims for him."

Josée suddenly had a horrible thought and turned back to the boy. "You're not planning anything are you; you're not going shoot us when our backs are turned, are you? Because I've got my hands full with this idiot going around stabbing everyone he sees. So if you do have anything, please toss it onto the floor now and no harm will come to you." Josée crossed her arms and waited for the boy to respond.

Cisco, that asshole, was at his mercy. He can just stab him in the throat and be done with it. It was so simple. Cisco could just die for all he cared. Simple, simple. Remy knew he could stab this douchey attention whore in the throat and go about his way. What could stop him? Nothing. Katelyn would be pleased, right?

Well, something grabbed his arm.

Josée, of all people, was the one to tell him not to kill fucking Cisco Vasquez. Fucking Cisco, who had just killed one of their buddies. He couldn't believe it. Josée was always the one who always told him to man up. And yet she was stopping him.

And then Cisco, at her request, starting going on about doing "Death's bidding". Oh good, he was delusional. That made things so much better. Or was that someone named "Joe"? He mentioned both. Either way, oh yeah, that was definitely a good sign.

But at least he had no clue he killed her. Or at least, so he claimed. Remy really had no clue. Again, he seemed delusional and thought that he was off doing Death's work or something.

Josée yelled at him some more, calling him an idiot for tackling Cisco. Well, he was reacting to Katelyn's death, what else was he supposed to do? Just sit and cry in the corner? He had done enough of that already. Heck, he wasn't going to avenge Reika's death either if he did that. Kris was still out there, doing god knows what. Probably laughing about how he shot her and killing more people with a smile on his face. And Remy knew he must be the one to stop him. Add in the fact that someone threw something at someone who had been traveling with them that instantly killed her, and really, what was he supposed to do?

Josée seemed to think Cisco was a victim, that someone- an actual, physical person- had been manipulating him and using him to his advantage. Well, was there? He did mention that he was doing someone's bidding, but he said that fucking Death was his boss or whatever.

He reluctantly let his sister drag him off Cisco, looking for all the world like a grumpy child being dragged away by a frustrated parent.

And if they needed more proof Cisco was off his rocker...

"Oh God...she's taking it! She's taking my music!" Cisco yelled, coming close to tears.

Remy looked back at Josée, wondering if she was doing something that was upsetting him. She still had a grip on his arm, and wasn't taking any "music". In fact, there wasn't any music in sight. Seriously, the hell? This was infinite proof that he was out of his mind. Hopefully after this Josée would stop the "Oh the poor little murderer" act. After all, he was crying and carrying on about music in the middle of the woods. That also was such a good sign. A guy who thought he worked for Death and thought someone was going to take his music. A great sign of a sane person if he ever saw one.

Looking back at the crying person on the ground, he asked "Cisco... what the HELL are you talking about?"

While Ash was busy grabbing the bags, a sudden cry broke her focus.

"Oh God...she's taking it! She's taking my music! She's taking my music!" It was a third voice coming from where the two friends had run to earlier. This was not a good thing. She was left out in the open, and not ready to fight. If they had a firearm with them, her life would end right here.

Ash had to make a choice: Supplies or a weapon? There was no time to wrap the sawblade safely so it didn't damage anything edible left in the bags, and she wasn't so desperate that she would use her mouth to hold it.

She was about to make a decision when she realized that she was being too hasty. There were no footsteps coming her way. Ash looked up. Remy wasn't looking at her. Neither was the female. So, they didn't believe the male on the ground.

She crouched down even lower and thought about this situation. They would turn towards her eventually, so she had to be quick about this. She could carry the bags on her forearms and hold the sawblade, but that would not be a good idea for long. She would have to run away from this place eventually, and tripping onto that would just be an embarassing way to die.

Ash reluctantly abandoned the sawblade, grabbed the bags, and started sneaking towards cover as quietly as she could to hide herself. Food and water were more important. A thought crossed her mind: What if the bags didn't have any sustenance inside? She didn't look in them yet, so that possibility remained open. If that was the case.... No, she would still take them. All she had to do was open them up and look inside later. It was more important to hide first.

"Did you see which direction he went in? Whichever way it was, I say we go the other! Right Remy?! Remy! Ok?! I'm sorry that Katelyn had to die like that but let's be honest. Whoever was trying to kill us has probably ran off by now. There's no point in killing his own victims for him."

He couldn't believe that they were believing him. As it were. They believed he hadn't acted of his own free will at about the only time where he had opted to do so ever since he began his indentured servitude to the Grim Reaper. Of course, that wasn't to say he was no longer in that indentured servitude at this moment. But that was better than them not believing him and slashing his throat with that blade, bringing the inevitable a lot sooner than he hoped. Not that a painful death wasn't his main concern. Or at least a painful death without his 'vinyl.'

"You're not planning anything are you; you're not going shoot us when our backs are turned, are you? Because I've got my hands full with this idiot going around stabbing everyone he sees. So if you do have anything, please toss it onto the floor now and no harm will come to you."

About the only thing he was holding right now was the sleeve of the vinyl he saw that girl taking from the corpse...at least for a few seconds. Apparently his cries of abandonment was enough to scare the girl off, causing her to drop the 'vinyl' in reflex. But not before he dropped it to his side in response to not wanting to die an immediately painful death, however peripheral that concern was now.

Then, as if an opportunity sent from beyond the grave (from which direction he didn't necessarily care,) Remy got off of him.

"Cisco... what the HELL are you talking about?"

As soon as he was sure that Remy Pierce wasn't weighing him down, he immediately rolled over, grabbed the fallen record sleeve and scrambled over in an almost chimp-like manner toward the sawblade. When he got close enough, he kicked his legs out to enable him to tackle out at the fallen serrated metal disc on the ground, reuniting with it like a long-lost relative or girlfriend.

He picked it up with a look on his eyes like a girl receiving a pony for Christmas. He practically cuddled it, rubbing his face along its bloodstained flat edge as he knelt on the gravel. Whoever had taken it was now gone...or probably hiding nearby, waiting to spring a trap on him. Maybe it was Death, wherever he went.

"It's okay, baby...I'm sorry I let you go..." he moaned, with a bizarrely crooked smile across his face. In those moments of infatuation he didn't even seem to notice the bugs starting to gather around the corpse of the girl he had killed (accidentally or otherwise), or even the smell of the blood and rot starting to permeate from the blade. But he did feel the serrated edges nudge painfully into his arms. And it enticed him to slowly slip the large circular sawblade right back into its sleeve.

Or rather, only halfway through, part of the bloodied side still jutting out of the sleeve.

"Guys?! It's okay!" he said to nobody in particular, raising the gleaming sawblade half-tucked in its sleeve in the air and waving it, "I got my music back!"

"Oh God...she's taking it! She's taking my music! She's taking my music!"

"What does that even mean?" Josée said quietly to Cisco as Remy relented his force over him. "Come on Remy, do you really think it's worth killing this guy, he's obviously out of his head and... Wait, where is he going." Josée watched the strange sight of Cisco scrambling on his knees right in the direction of Kateyln's corpse. Josée walked behind curiously as he scrambled towards the mysterious object that had killed Katelyn and started to clutch it like a life preserver. Josée was speechless, she looked at Remy, then found the words she needed. She directed them towards Remy.

"Well... I guess it's been... A long day... For the three of us. I know we've lost Katelyn which don't get me wrong I am just as upset about as you are Remy. But let's face it; what the Hell would be the use of killing this guy. I mean look at him. I think this 'Grim Reaper' guy must have smashed a dent in his brain by the looks of things."

"Guys?! It's okay! I got my music back!"

Josée looked over and smiled awkwardly at Cisco, then turned back to Remy.

"And besides, there are people way more dangerous then this on this island, you've heard the announcements, I'm sure I've heard several names come up at least twice now. So perhaps we should try being calm and just..." Then Josée noticed something was amiss. "Hold on a bloody second; someone's taken my bag! I left it right here then I went over to stop you're bleeding rampage and then..."

Josée thought for a second. "What did you say before Cisco? You said someone was stealing your music! And I'm quite sure that that thing is..." She glanced at the strangled object in Cisco's grip. "Yep, that's one of those old records. "So perhaps Cisco wasn't talking complete nonsense, and whoever he saw must have taken my supplies. That's it, whoever it is, I'm going after them."

She ran over to Cisco and bent down to his level, smiling politely.

"Hi... Cisco, you're name's Cisco right. Josée Trembley by the way, great to meet you." She held out her hand polity to see if he would shake it; Josée guessed she could get a good idea of how scared he was based on whether or not he shook it. "Anyway, you said you saw someone over here, I don't suppose you saw which way they went. It would be a great help to me."
