Yours If You Want It

The gym, despite its name, is actually two halls of differing size, divided by a wall with a window. One half is a flat matted area, set aside to give the school's wrestling, cheerleading, and gymnastics teams a practice space of their own, while the other half is a more traditional gym featuring exercise machines such as treadmills, rowing machines, exercise bikes, and other equipment. The students are allowed to use the gym's exercise facilities outside of school hours, but they are required to sign in and out. Anyone found to be misusing the equipment provided will be banned for a two-week period, although these bans can escalate to semester length or become indefinite should the behavior continue.

Wyatt was already on his next machine at this point, and it was in close enough proximity to the lat machine that Aleksandra figured she could sit down and double-check her settings without seeming rude about it.  She examined how much weight she had it set for.  200 pounds.  Perfect.  She was considering moving up to 210 in about a week or so if she could keep up with the load.  She didn't want to risk overtaxing herself, so she was always careful and methodical about her exercises.

Why was it that Wyatt assumed that she wanted to date Connor just because she wanted to know his name?  It seemed like a pretty innocuous question, and she certainly hadn't meant anything behind it.  Maybe he was just the type to jump to conclusions like that.  Admittedly, that wouldn't really surprise her.  Everything she knew about him up to and including what she had seen in the gym today seemed to paint him as the impulsive type.

He also didn't seem to like Connor's girlfriend for some reason.  Madison, was it?  Aleksandra wasn't sure how many Madisons there were in school.  Maybe she had met her before?  And what was he going on about with the bit about feeling ignored?  She supposed he had a point there, actually.  The quarterback was the position that most people knew about, so people would probably recognize Connor first.  She imagined that could bother someone who felt like they weren't getting proper recognition.

"If it helps, I remembered your name first."

Wyatt had set his hands on the bars of the incline press before Aleksandra addressed him once more. He paused in his preparations, first looking to her to process what she had told to him... consolation, as if he needed it. Maybe if they were in the NFL somebody would remember Connor first, but high school was about making an impression... and nobody made a bigger impression on or off the field than the Carter brothers. As far as Wyatt was concerned, they ran this fucking place. No, the real confusing issue to him was not remembering Connor at all. Wasn't this chick a fucking senior?

From there, he took a moment to look at where she had pinned the weight for the lat bar. The machine was just far away enough that the labels were a pain in the ass to read, but close enough that with some effort he could make them out - 200 lbs. Wyatt whistled.

"Well I appreciate the honor. Not bad, pulling 200. Basketball isn't seriously your only sport, is it?" Wyatt asked. "You've got to be like the scariest bitch playing field hockey or lacrosse. Fuck, if coach'd allow it, we should've had you on football a year ago."

The chit chat was nice, but it was time he started hitting the weights. With sharp, well-spaced breaths, he began to push on the handles of the machine. With each pump, he sculpted more muscle, utilized more of the protein he was constantly taking in, building himself up to be the bastard that every pussy quarterback in every other school in the district feared to go up against. It hurt, but fuck if the pain didn't feel good, as if he needed that burning feeling to keep himself going and want to wake up.

Aleksandra pulled the bar down for her first rep.  It took a bit of work to get it down, but the first rep was always one of the hardest.  It wasn't as bad as when you start to get tired and are pushing through to the end, but it was before your body was used to moving the extra weight, so it took a bit to get going.  Once she got through it though, she settled into her rhythm.  Up and down, extend and retract.  Just keep the bar moving and her the weight do its work.

She was about five reps in when Wyatt spoke up again, breaking her concentration.  Her streak of consistent movements no longer intact, she paused with the bar in the ready position above her head.  For some reason, Wyatt had the idea of her playing other sports as well as basketball in his head.  The theory sounded like kind of a pain, really.  She already did a lot of training for basketball alone, so how would she manage to fit in even more for other sports.  She would probably have to cut out art if she did that, and there was no way that she would be abandoning her other projects.  She had put too much time into them to just give up on them out of the blue.

"I only really like basketball." She stated.  "I don't really want to play anything else."

"Basketball's just for winter though, right?" Wyatt wiped the sweat from his palms and shook the tension out of his shoulders. Time for another set. More for the simple formula: increase work load, decrease reps, increase gains. It was all about being that giant that blew through the offensive line and shattered a play before it could even begin. "Like, that gives you two off-seasons. The hell... NNNNGH..."

Shit, that fifth push was actually hard. Should he have been talking and working out like this? He quickly threw it aside in a mental 'oh well'; Aleks would just have to hear him grunt louder than one of those butches at Wimbledon. "The hell you doing in the off season?"

He blew through his nose for the sixth rep, growing red in the face. Fuck, he wished it was leg day. Leg day was easier to work and talk.

After being distracted by Wyatt, Aleksandra took a moment to check her machine's settings again, just to make sure they were still in the right place. After confirming that the weight was still set to 200, she got back into the proper seating position and latched onto the bar to continue with her work.

That was what she had been planning to do, anyway.  But Wyatt's curiosity once again poked its head into her immediate plans.  Removing her hands from the bar and placing them on her knees, she set about answering his question.

"I do art.  Not just on the offseason, though.  Basketball just tends to take up the most time during the season, I guess."

She privately wondered just how many more questions he had to ask.

So she did some drawings, played some basketball, and that was it? Yeah, as far as he was concerned, there were better uses for her time, especially in the fall and spring. Nothing against art (other than it didn't interest him in the slightest and there were a million other things that better contributed to society. It was a wonder she managed to stay in the gargantuan, almost-masculine state she was in right now. It all made sense if she was working out basically every day, but working out for what? You didn't need all those muscles just to throw an orange ball through a hoop. It's not like you were allowed to hit anybody, or even touch 'em without a ref getting all whistle-blow happy.

It seemed like every time Aleksandra opened her mouth to speak, she stopped what she was doing and had to sit up straight to directly face him. Wyatt cruelly smiled to himself; what, the girl couldn't multi-task? His muscles were burning but that just meant the good stuff was happening inside, so he decided to get the last set out of the way... hands on the bars.

"What's wrong, can't talk and... HHHHHMPH! Work out!?" Wyatt asked, getting straight to work hoisting the weights along the track of the arms as far as he could push them, then letting them back down. Now each repetition was starting to get to be a true workout, a real pain in the arms and chest. Fuck, he still loved that feeling, and there was no harm in repeating the sentiment. "Then don't mind me... I'm sure you'll... mmmmmmmph! Probably be over for one of the house parties. We'll talk... sssssssssss! We'll talk later."

If she had to pick one of the two, then he hoped it was working out. He wanted to see those muscles in action again... that got the blood flowing, and to all the right places.

"Huh?"  It looked like Wyatt had noticed that she had stopped working out.  "I don't like getting distracted while I'm working out, and you were still talking, so I thought it would be kind of rude if I just shut you out."  She explained to him.

She looked up at the bar that she should have been working with for the past few minutes, then back at Wyatt.  She was really starting to run behind schedule now.  She may not have had any specific plans for the day, but she still liked to have things handled in a reasonable fashion.  Being late stressed her out, even if she wasn't late for anything in particular.

And speaking of lateness, she really needed to start her workout.  She wanted to be done before evening came.  She hated driving in the dark.

"Was there anything else?"  She inquired.  "I'd really like to start my workout now."

Wyatt slammed the weights back. That was six reps, but given the way things were going right now he might've packed it in early just to stare at Aleks.

"Yeah, I just said 'let's talk later', right?" Wyatt felt his patience coming to an end just like that; there was no gradual straining, just a SNAP and things had gone from pretty comfortable to irritating. Was there a stick on that seat driving right up Aleksandra's ass or something? The fuck was her deal?

So hurry the fuck up, bitch, it's not like I'm stopping you. "So get going, time's wasting." The two sentences fought to escape Wyatt's mouth but in the presence of a woman, no matter how dyke-ish she looked, he figured it more prudent to let it be the latter and more polite of his two options. He stood up and wiped the seat down, grabbing the plates off the incline press to move to decline next. Harder exercises were giving way to the easiest, considering he was really beating himself up this session. He figured it would be best to just finish this up, get the hell out, and get in the last session at home like usual.

"Oh."  He had said that, hadn't he?  Aleksandra supposed that she had missed it.  Maybe because some of the stuff he was saying kind of blended together with all of the grunting he was doing while he was working out.  Come to think of it, that was probably another reason why she didn't want to talk while lifting weights.  She didn't want to strain herself and affect her words too much.  "Sorry."  She apologized quickly, keeping her eyes on Wyatt for a bit longer before turning back to give the lat machine another once-over.

Weight was still set to 200, just like the last two times she checked.  It was probably redundant to keep doing it, but setting the weight was part of the routine.  If it wasn't right, then the workout wouldn't go right, an then she would have just wasted her time.  And with all the time she had spent in the gym already waiting to start, that would have been a pretty major disappointment.

Her hands clasped the bar one more time, and she began her session proper.  She pulled the bar down, bringing the weight up, then let the opposite happen.  She couldn't release too fast, though.  Then the weights would crash down.  Not only was that loud, but it was also the totally wrong way to use the equipment.  She found her rhythm, accomplishing each rep consistently, almost like she was running on a precise autopilot.

Aleksandra wasn't paying attention to Wyatt, the gym, or anything else.  Everything aside from the lat machine faded around her as she intensely focused on the task at hand.  All that was on her mind was a series of perfectly measured reps, performed to a consistent beat in her head.

Shit, what was he thinking?

Somehow watching Aleks wasn't hot at all like he thought it would be. She was far too awkward in how she did everything, and to top it all off, she made for terrible conversation and wouldn't laugh at anything. If they were every gonna make a go at each other off of a party or something, Wyatt decided she didn't just need a paper bag, she'd need a gag too or else some inane shit'd come spilling out just as he was about to bust a nut.

Fuck, he was pretty sure his dick just about turned concave thinking about that. The disgusts swirling about in his mind made this last set the hardest, initially at least, but he let his frustration take over as he pounded out on the weights, taking it out on the machine rather than on a girl. If word got back around to Bret that some spacey chick was able to get the better of his temper, Wyatt was sure he'd never hear the end of that one. Fuck that noise.

Wyatt let the last one slam down as an exclamation mark on the workout. Fuck this machine anyway, he much preferred the bench when he had somebody around so he could actually do it. At least at home, he wasn't struck by that limitation. Securing his things, the large boy got up from the machine and walked across the room, scooting the bag from the wall with his foot.

Not bothering to utter any goodbyes, he packed up his shit and left.

Up.  Down.  Up.  Down.  Up.  Down.  The weights kept moving, and the flow continued unabated.  Maybe she would be able to move up to 210 soon after all.  With the momentum she had, it didn't seem like a bad idea at all.  She would probably give it a few more days before coming to a decision, though.  This might have just been a particularly good lat day for her.

She let go of the bar and wiped her face with her towel.  Wyatt wasn't on his machine anymore.  In fact, a look around the gym revealed that he wasn't there at all.  He must have left while she was busy doing her reps.  Her set hadn't been that long, or at least it didn't seem that way to her.  He must have been in a real hurry to pick up and leave so quickly.

With both of the boys gone, Aleksandra had the gym all to herself.  She looked at the clock on the wall to check the time, which she realized she hadn't done in quite some time.  It was a little late, but not so much that she should really be worried.  But at the same time, she figured that it would be better to cut out a little early and avoid he possibility of having to deal with night traffic entirely.  Besides, she could make up for anything she might have missed by doing some simple exercises at home, the kind that she didn't need equipment for.

She headed for the women's lockers to gather up her things, then left the gym for the day.
