"Hey, are you alright?"
Juhan's eyebrows knitted as he wondered why Ian would ask him that. He seemed to be worried. Then, he noticed who Ian was looking at.
The first time Bella and Juhan had met on the island, she was crying. And then, Francis died, her best friend ran away, and they almost got caught in a danger zone. Yet here was Bella, smiling, reassuring everyone around her that she was fine, it was just cold, she was perfectly OK.
Sure, it was chilly right now. Sure, it felt like it was November even though this was supposed to be the start of summer. Yet, Juhan just didn't believe her. He wasn't an idiot. Sure, he could be a bit dense sometimes when it came to feelings. But there was always something going on behind that smile. And Juhan understood. There probably wasn't a single person on this island who was still completely fine. They'd all gone through some traumatic experiences, and Juhan got the feeling that there'd be many more before they got off this island.
But what was Juhan supposed to do? He didn't even know what Bella was worrying about. Was she looking for someone? Was she scared about this plan? Was she scared about dying? There were so many possible reasons. Also, was he supposed to bring it up front or just ignore it? No, no, the latter wouldn't do, definitely not. He had to say something.
A promise. On this island, there were never any guarantees. But he'd try his best to make sure that this promise wouldn't be broken.
"Bella, don't worry. No matter what happens, we're always going to be there for each other. I promise."
