What, I Read it Somewhere

Reposting the N3 Matt Oneshot

The red brick building that is the high school contains ten different classrooms. There are stone archways and the classes contain desks and tables covered in pens, highlighters, and post-it notes. The rooms have dirty oval windows and plastic white floors. Plastic Easter baskets are still on top of many of the desks. Only dirty test tubes remain in the science room. There is an exercise room containing rusted equipment.

What, I Read it Somewhere

It wasn't long after Matt had left Aileen and Joe behind that he'd had an idea. He needed a gun, but it was going to be hard to procure one. Nobody was just going to hand over their own weapon, and taking a gun by force with a knife, well, that wasn't going to work, either. He needed something more potent, something a bit... flashier...

The sun had been down for a few hours when Matt found himself wandering the halls of the high school. Three days on the island, and all he's managed was a full circle. Whatever, at least now he was back with an objective. He needed to find the chemistry room. He'd hopefully find what he was looking for in there.

A group of teenagers stand around in the dark chemistry lab. Their fear permeates the air. One of them is about to leave the room; they need the key to get to the roof of the school. They need to escape.

"There's got to be something else," one of the boys says, his voice betraying his panic.

"There is," one of the girls says, nodding her head towards the chemical cabinet. The others look confused.

"What're we gonna do, throw acid on him?" The same boy replies.

"No, like a firebomb," the excitement rises in her voice. "And there is everything in there we need to make a self-igniting molotov cocktail."

It was a scene from Teen Wolf. Matt had watched the first season of the show last summer. What had been at first a guilty pleasure full of incredibly attractive men turned into a riveting show. The second season was going to start soon.

Matt would probably never get to see it.

He had to purge his mind of that thought. He needed to focus on how he was going to get home.

Self-igniting molotov cocktail. Matt had looked up how to make one; it didn't seem too hard. Gasoline+alcohol for the fuel. Sulfuric acid+anything that combusted with sulfuric acid for the trigger. Paper to wrap around a glass bottle to set up the mechanism. Not too hard, really.

He eventually stumbled into the chemistry lab, and Matt grew excited. He needed to find the chemicals he needed. Hopefully the terrorists hadn't taken any of them away. Matt found the chemical cabinet fairly quickly. Opening the cabinet, he was disappointed to see nothing but cobwebs. Matt scoured around the room, only finding some dirty test tubes and beakers; this plan wasn't going to work.

He needed to figure out another plan, but it was late. He first needed to fortify the room so that he could get some sleep. It would probably be safe enough to get a full night's rest, something he hadn't done yet on this trip. He barricaded the door with a few of the desks, and he laid down to rest. Matt fell asleep quite quickly.

Matt woke up as the sun was rising the next day. Another announcement was coming soon, and he needed to get moving. Maybe he could find what he needed in the town...
