Accessible from the asylum grounds through a door with a rusted lock, the bell tower was a pre-existing structure before the asylum was founded. Initially ignored as the staff had no real use for it, after a patient threw himself off of it, the bell tower was sealed with a heavy metal padlock. Despite this, it was still rung at certain times throughout the year, meaning the bell was still in good condition when the asylum was abandoned. Despite the lack of maintenance since, the bell and tower are still generally intact, although a few of the stairs may be slightly rotten. The padlock, however, rusted and appears to have been broken to allow access to the top of the tower. The top of the tower itself provides a nearly three hundred and sixty degree view over most of the island, although the safety rail doesn't appear capable of standing up to much force anymore.

((Aiden Slattery continued from Nuts in May))

Saying that he was glad about anything at all at this fuckin' time, it felt more than a little weird. Facts were, he had no goddamn clue where he was going, hadn't seen a single soul for way longer than he was comfortable with and was starting to feel a little dizzy. And all that wasn't even counting all of the other...obvious stuff.

But there was no other way to say it, he was fuckin' glad to finally be outside of that goddamn place. That huge, bulky, dusty fuckin' labyrinth of a building, no way he was settin' foot in there again. Well, maybe after all of this shit was over. To go back to Scarls and - fuck, had to stop thinkin' about it. He couldn't change that now. Had to keep lookin' forward, some generic sounding thing like that. Still, it was probably true, so it was.

Aiden rubbed his neck. Wasn't thirsty, not anymore, had already taken care of that. Still, his throat didn't feel like everything was A-okay down there. Like sandpaper; he sure wasn't lookin' forward to his next meal, last one had already hurt, kinda. He checked his watch again. Like knowing the time was gonna make any goddamn difference. Still, he was just glad to have it. Only thing he had that still mattered.

He looked up again, staring at the tower that was less than a short jog ahead of him. Thing looked no less miserable and grim than the fuckin' pile of cement he had just left. Only advantage was, prolly couldn't get lost in it that easily. Didn't seem like anyone was gonna hole themselves up in there though, let alone one of the peeps he was searchin' for. Didn't exactly look inviting, nope. Especially with all the -

Wait, the fuck was that thing there? Something right there next to the entrance, looked like a - an ironing board or something? Nah, prolly not that. Something on top of it too.

Aiden took a few steps forward, walking in the direction of the tower ahead. That thing was some sort of gurney, was becoming more clear now. And someone was fuckin' lying on top of it. Couldn't tell who, not yet, but someone was fuckin' lying there and not moving. He took another insecure step forward as he stared, then froze where he was standing.

Holy shit, please no, not again.

"Heads up, Slattery."

((Melanie Beckett continued from Call Me Maybe))

"Right behind you."

Her grip was firm on his shoulder. She hadn't paused; she hadn't hesitated. She'd only thought about the consequences of startling him for a second and then she'd already reached right out and pulled him back.

It hadn't been a good night, or a good morning. It'd been hard to get any sleep - something she ought to have stuck with the others for, maybe. Guarded by a landmine, instead of the back of a building, some grass, and the shield of darkness. It might have been worth it, to have said what she was thinking and have seen if they had thought the same way too. Just because she didn't want to do this with others didn't mean she needed to do this alone.

But, y'know, no time for regrets.

No time at all, the way people had dropped. It'd frustrated her. They'd given in. So easily. One by one. The terrorists framed the situation and gave them fear and gave them hope and they slaughtered each other.

Feeling like that was probably also part of it. If the terrorists cared at all, they wanted to frustrate everyone who heard the announcements, wanted to make them scared or sad or angry. It wasn't just delivering news. And telling them who the killers were, that just made it easier to point fingers and shove the blame at the wrong person.

She'd let it all wash over her like a wave. The names, the faces, the people. Reframed it - it wasn't what they wanted her to feel that mattered, but what she wanted to feel, what was natural for her to feel.

Grief. Frustrated, helpless anger.

She could see the ocean from here, had seen it when she'd crossed the bridge and skirted the asylum, but Aiden was what held her attention right now. This was something she wanted too - to talk to him. She'd known that as soon as she'd spotted him in the distance.

"I don't think it'll help to see who it is," Mel said, and there was no reason to hide the unease that she felt. "Maybe we should- you wanna step away for a bit?"

The second Aiden felt the pressure on his shoulder, he let out a short shriek. His head filled with nothing but utter fucking panic for a heartbeat, he jumped a little and spun around.

His eyes met a familiar face and the fog in his head immediately cleared. Mel, holy fuck, he should have known. Always managed to come out of nowhere like that.

"Shit...shit, you scared me, man." He was panting a little, had to catch his breath. Goddammit, she got him good. Didn't change the fact that he was super fucking happy to see her show up like that, but still, his heart had to calm the fuck down. Was almost embarrassing him a bit, so it was.

"Jesus fuck, you scared me." He nodded, like he ne needed to stress that fact any more. Took him two, three more seconds to fully come back down to earth, then he finally found it in him to react to this the proper way.

Melanie, she was here, she was okay. She was only one person, only one of the peeps he was trying to find and so many others were still out there, but fuck it, she was here now. Only thing that really mattered. He gave her a smile and just a little more and he'd prolly have gone in for a hug too. Fuck, he really needed one of those. Not right now though, didn't want her to get the wrong impression right off the bat.

He heard her proposition and immediately remembered the goddamn body that was still there. He'd have been more than okay with just forgetting about it, like. That short moment of him just being all smiles to see a friendly face, that couldn't have stuck around a little longer, could it? Oh well. Not like complaining did anything now.

Aiden simply nodded again, not wanting to deal with whatever lay behind him right now. This was the best he could have asked for, distraction and stuff. Of course, he'd have been stoked to see Mel either way, no doubt there. He put both hands behind his head, rubbing his neck for bit, before lowering them again. "I mean, dumb question I guess, but how are ya?"

"Better now that I've scared you half to death."

Mel grinned, the familiar smile curving across her face. Sure, it was a dumb question, but it was only dumb because it was asked here, in the situation that had been set up for them. It was the sort of question and answer that he'd have asked and she'd have given anywhere else.

What were they gonna do, blow her up for pleasantries?

"You kinda look like shit, though." That was an understatement if she'd ever made one. Now that she got a closer look at his front, he was absolutely covered in blood - dried blood, all over his shoulders and his sleeves and the upper part of his shirt. But not hurt. Not visibly.

It wasn't that she believed the terrorists and what they said. About who killed, about who was dead. They could pick and choose their truths to manipulate her classmates if they wanted to. She didn't see a reason for them to lie when the truth hurt more, but trusting them - that was a fool's game.

She simply chose to believe that Aiden hadn't killed.

Wrinkling her nose, she placed a hand on her hip, on the grass-stained side of her jacket. Tried to keep her eyes on him and not the body behind him, so that she could ignore the morbid curiosity that nagged at her.

"Smell terrible, too." Her grin didn't falter. "So, y'know, it's good to see you."

Aiden scratched his head, wearing a sort of tired grin. "Yeah."

More stuff he had been trying to forget. And even did, least for a couple of hours. Clothes were still sticky like a bunch of glue, but what the hell was he supposed do, run around shirtless? He'd have to roll with it, fucking nasty as that was. Had gotten used to it by now, really. Except now that Mel pointed it out, that itch all over his body was back.

"Like, you know..."

His smile faded away and he had to lick his lips in order to hide he was choking up a bit. God, all that shit coming back to him now. He really wanted to try and not think about it too much, least until he was safe, until all the others were safe, but fuck, it was just goddamn impossible to do.

"I mean, I was with people and we split up and - things just..." He put one arm around himself, grabbing onto his own shoulder, like he was literally trying to pull himself together. Didn't even know what the hell he was going to say, what words to use. He knew they happened, all of that freakin' terrible stuff, but saying out loud, it just felt wrong. None of this was supposed to be this way, like.

"I was with Scarls, okay? Tried to keep her safe, but it just, it didn't work. Guess you...heard about the rest."

His voice was quiet and he could sense that he was repressing some anger while speaking. Anger directed at himself, at Nancy, those terrorist bastards, fucking everyone. He didn't want to be angry though. Mel was here now, things were lookin' up. Startin' to, at least. "What about you? You been with some folks?"

"Yeah," Mel echoed, and fell into a short silence.

Now was when her smile faded, too. She'd poked at what hurt him, and he'd poked right back.

If splitting up had worked so badly for him, what was to say it would work out better for her? How long had Vinny and Tessa kept the peace without some sort of mediating influence? And if they had fallen out and fallen apart in all the wrong ways, or if someone else had stumbled upon them in the meantime and changed the dynamic for the worse, Cameron wouldn't have fared much better.

That wasn't her responsibility - she couldn't even presume to be any sort of mediator, couldn't have said for sure that if she'd stayed she'd have been a positive influence on them. Probably not. Her specialty was in poking at bears, after all, relishing the possibility that it could all blow up in her face. Then maybe she'd have to backpedal. Maybe she'd have to make a peace. Here, the stakes were higher. Here, it wasn't just Astrid, glaring at her as if to wither her away.

"I left," she finally said. "Haven't really heard of them since, so I guess that's good news. Just... had something else I wanted to do." And that was the truth, she guessed, more of the truth than she'd given to Cameron.

Cameron had said she'd wanted to see the ocean, too.

She changed the subject abruptly. "You wanna see a tower? Let's go see a tower."

And she started walking without another thought, moving towards the corpse - moving to move past the corpse, moving quickly enough to fool herself into thinking she wasn't going to try to figure out who it was.

Aiden let out a brief chuckle, but it felt more forced than anything. For once, not hearing from people was actually kinda good, that was true. Still, the fact that it was like that, that was still pretty damn depressing. Everything was, really.
"Yeah, guess so."

Even now that he was with Mel, he still didn't feel all jolly and comfy and shit. And like, even just speaking, trying to just exchange some casual words and stuff, even that felt all awkward. Prolly cause they both knew how fucked up this was and how nothing would be the fucking same, no way it'd be.

Well, looked like Mel was more curious than he was though, wanted to go take a peek into that tower. He was fine where he was. Not really fine, but still. Didn't seem likely that anyone would go and camp out in that rickety old thing, so no point in searching it.

"Eh, gonna be honest-"

Well, so much for that. Girl had already made her decision, so she did. Headed straight for the tower, straight for...them. Fuckin' hell, he had no choice though, did he? Not like he could let her go in all alone, all selfish like. Not like he didn't expect her to go renegade though, nope. Still, wished she'd have at least asked him.

"Hey, wait up at least."

Aiden started jogging, just a few feet, until he had caught with her. He made sure to walk next to Mel, on the side facing away from whoever was lying there. He wanted to have as much distance between him and them as possible, had already come in contact with one dead body and that had been fucking unbearable enough. He really didn't need to repeat that.

"Sorry." She meant it, because she was being hypocritical, doing what she'd kept him from doing and doing what she'd said wouldn't help. He'd lost someone, lost Scarlett, and she was dragging it all back up without even thinking about it.

Mel slowed down a bit, enough for him to catch up, but not enough to come to a stop by the corpse. No way was she doing that.

Except it wasn't just a corpse anymore, because she'd caught a glimpse now - it was Harold, and as her heart felt like it'd been squeezed tight, she knew she should have listened to herself. Knowing who it was didn't help.

Her feet kept moving, almost automatic, and soon she was at the tower. She took a deep breath. Looked up, looked down. Looked back at Aiden as she pressed her hands against the door. The metal was cool against her palms.

"If you don't wanna go in," she said, "we can stop."

And maybe this time, she'd listen.

((Serena Waters continued from Go to a school trip they said, it will be fun they said))

She had lost him, some-fucking-how she had managed to lose Al. She had spent the night looking for him, wandering the asylum building, if the building looked eerie during the day did not compare to how it looked at night. She stopped for a bit rub her eyes when she heard a crackle in the air as loudspeaker started. A familiar voice echoed through the halls as he ratlled of his speech, the same man that shot their teachers and told them to kill each other.

Abby was dead. Sweet, dear Abby who wouldn't hurt anyone, dead at her own hands. the only thought running through her mind was why would she do that? Something horrible must have happened to her for this to happen. The thought made her eyes well up. And not just her either, Scarlett, Barry and Harold were all dead too, good people snuffed out for this sick game.

And the names continued, Isabel Ramirez came up twice. Already they had someone who's decided to kill their way home, no one kills two people by complete accident.

The worst about it were the jokes. The macabre things this person were spewing out about people. It shook Serena to her core. It wasn't enough for them to force them into this, they had to sit back and joke about it the entire time.

And a final kick to her hopes were administered, he announced the only danger zone for the day, and of course it was the supply depot. Serena reacted to this with calm and grace, she threw her bag on the floor and screamed out obscenities in the hall. She stomped on her bag for a bit before slumping down near the wall and let the tears out, her friends were dying or dead and the plan she had was stopped as easily as them snapping their fingers.

After she had calmed down, she got on her feet, grabbed her bag and started walking again. No destination in mind, no plan for now. She just wanted out of this place.

The announcments were a wake up call for her, she knew people would die and people would kill, but it still took her by suprise with how many she knew were just....gone. The only comfort she had from it were that more of her friends weren't dead. Jeremy, Alice, Al...please be safe. She thought as she looked around for an exit. Every noise she heard echoed through the building making hard to tell where it came from. Sometimes it looked like something or other moved in the dark, as if they were following her. Eventually she flat out stopped walking and ran.

The asylum was getting to her. She had to get out.

The instant she saw something that looked like an exit, she ran straight towards it and burst through the door. The feeling of fresh air almost felt foreign. The asylum was old and felt like it, the very air inside gave a sense of deadness to the whole area. With what's going on now, this whole place is going to feel haunted, moreso than it does already.

At this point she noticed the tower, maybe where all the noise came from earlier? She decided to make her way there, get a proper lookout over the area. However, getting closer she noticed two people.

Aiden was a very distinct person to say the least if not in appearance, then certainly in personality. He liked giving nicknames to people she's heard, a bit weird in some respects, but he was always nice to her whenever they spoke to each other, maybe she could try and talk to him and his friend. She stepped in for a closer look.

Annnnnd she just noticed that he was covered in blood, great.

Goddammit, he was fuckin' glad that he wasn't all by himself, that Mel was walkin' next to him. Like, he still recognized him lying there, of course he fuckin' did. That t-shirt, goddamn knew it looked familiar. All he had to see was that ugly Deadpool mug on the front of it, then it was all crisp and clear.

Harold, motherfucking Harold. Yeah, he already knew and shit, knew that announcement wasn't just some phony deal, since it had mentioned Scarls. Still, some part of him had thought that like - maybe the whole fuckin' rest of it had been bullshit, just a load of bull and nothing but. Didn't look like it, didn't fuckin' look like it. That was Harold alright. Godfuckingdammit.

Aiden just kept walkin', didn't even look where was going. Only when Mel said something did he bother to turn and realize he was almost runnin' head first into a wall or - door, gate, whatever. Fuck, he should have listened, no idea what Mel had just said. But like, not like anyone could really blame him here. How many more fuckin' bodies did he have to come across? This shit was way fuckin' deeper than any guy his size could handle, so it fuckin' was.

"Hey uh, sorry, could you like respeat...?"

He shook his head, tapping his forehead forcefully. "Jeez, got fuss all over my tongue or somethin', can't even speak right." He wiped his eye and shrugged. "Yeah anyway, didn't catch the last thing you said, mind repeating?"

((Wade Cartwright continued from Detection and Identification))

Wade had heard the commotion just as he was halfway downstairs. As soon as he did, trepidation wracked his body. He could vaguely recognize some of the voices as people he'd heard speak in class or elsewhere. But he knew for a fact that none were even passing acquaintances.

He could barely guess at what they were like from just hearing and not seeing them. They were almost totally unknown factors, and that terrified Wade. He had absolutely zero ability to predict what thoughts were running through their heads, which meant he couldn't read them or guess at what they were pulling. He wanted no part of it.

The uncomfortably familiar stink of death still wafted up from the floor, except there was a stronger edge to it now than yesterday. Barry's body had decomposed further through the night. As hard as Wade tried to ignore it, the fact that someone had died and their corpse was right there festered in his mind. He wasn't much for superstition, but the entire place felt tainted by the mere fact and presence of all that; he could feel his instincts clawing at the back of his mind, waiting to spring back open and take hold.

So Wade crept further down the stairs, further, further, and just as he was approaching the ground he heard the rustling, he heard the faint sound of someone talking and placing their hands on one side of the door. That was all his instincts needed. Fuck being subtle and sneaky he didn't want to take the risk of engaging with these people at all, the mere prospect of unplanned human contact in a situation like this felt utterly terrifying and dangerous he didn't want it. Not at all.

He was a scared animal again. Fight or flight time.

Atavistically, he chose flight. Rush at the door, throw it open, run. It didn't matter who was behind it or if they were hostile or if they were or weren't or might have a thousand other things, he felt so vulnerable and unsafe and just wanted out, wanted away. Seeing the building and sky again was exhilarating. He didn't lend even a single thought to the three who had been there. He just ran. Ran until he felt safe again.

"Hey, what-"

All Mel could do was stare, hands still suspended in mid-air, after the figure in flight, someone evidently more scared of her than she had been scared of them. Of him, as she vaguely recognized his retreating back. Tall junior. Wade something or other. The door swung closed behind her as she watched him disappear into the distance.

Unfortunately, she had an inkling of what had happened to him, what else there might have been to spook him. There had been something there, lurking in the background in that moment the doors had been flung open, even as the motion of Wade's exit had caught almost all of her attention. There had been something that didn't quite belong. Unnatural, foreboding. Ominous.

Her hands were once again on the metal door, and she heard it creak as she began to- No. Not yet.

She forced herself to turn towards Aiden - and what seemed like another figure in the distance, approaching from a different angle than Wade had left - and shrugged helplessly in response to his almost forgotten question.

"Someone else's behind you, too. Guess we're popular all of a sudden."

As the two stood close to the tower and talked to each other, neither of them looked armed, so Serena walked closer to the pair. It was a dumb idea, it went against everything she had told Al earlier and one of them looked like they had been through some shit, but Serena didn't care, after the night she just had, she needed to talk to someone.

It was then someone burst out the tower, running away fast enough Serena could barely tell who it was. A boy, she'd seen him around school sometimes, she blanked on the name. Whoever it was, something bad must have happened to spook him so badly. It gave Serena second thoughts about being here.

The pair looked suprised at the retreating boy, before talking to each other again. She could have left when the boy ran out, hell she probably should have, but she didn't. Instead she raised her hand and waved at them, trying her best to come off as friendly.

"Whoa, whoa!"

Door came flyin' towards him out of the fucking blue and Aiden jumped backwards to avoid getting his face smashed in. Close fucking encounter, he could even feel the gush of air on his skin as it barely missed him. He had no time to even recover or try and catch on to whatever the fuck had just happened, as some dude rushed past him less than a second later.

"Fuckin' -"

That was all his brain could produce in that moment, things went way too flippin' fast. First instinct was to assume he was under attack or something and he threw his hands up to shield himself or something, like that was going to help. Huh, wasn't chargin' for him though, nope. Just makin' a run for it, so he did, classic bailing.

Aiden lowered his hands again, tried to catch his breath. Coulda yelled after that guy, told him to stop and calm his tits or some shit. Thought didn't even cross his mind in that moment though. Just watching after him as he took off, Aiden could tell that it wasn't one of his crew, no one he immediately recognized or something. Not worth chasing after. Fuck, that sounded way too fuckin' shitty, but that was how he fuckin' felt.

He almost jumped when Mel started speaking again. Jesus, his fuckin' nerves, bouncin' all over the place. Had to get a grip, yup. "Huh, what are you sayin?' There's nobody else, that guy just left and-"

Oh wait, she meant behind him, right. He turned around and yup, there she was. Whoever she [/i] was[/i]. Took him a bit to really take in her face, way too many faces to go through in his head. Fuck like, every small thing was kind of overwhelming his brain, like it was startin' go get a bit fuzzy and all.

"Hey uh...oh right, that's Rena! Rena, Serena or - something. Whatever, she looks harmless, you with me?"

He turned his head away from Mel and back to the new arrival. Stared at her for another moment, then slowly raised his arm and starting waving back - sort of.

"You call her Rena?"

Okay, that maybe wasn't the most important thing at the moment.

Mel gave a small nod, even though she knew he wasn't likely to see or notice it, focused as he was on Serena in the distance. He was right, anyway, in that Serena was as nice a person as you could find at Cochise - friendly, quiet, and private enough that she had never really stuck out to Mel at all.

Now she was stranded here, too.

"Yeah, I'm with you." She waved as well, a bit more enthusiastically than Aiden (although it wasn't a competition), and couldn't help but keep wondering exactly what she had seen behind that closed door.
