Welcome to SOTF Mini!
SOTF Mini is collaborative writing site detailing the stories of students forced into mortal conflict with each other. Originally founded in 2010, SOTF Mini moved to its current home in 2018 after its original host was purchased.

Mini Universes
Mini features a number of universes, each presenting a different spin on the same core idea. The universes are briefly described below, along with information on their current status.
SOTF-TV
The most expansive Mini universe, SOTF-TV imagines a world where death games are a normalized part of the entertainment industry. SOTF-TV is a media behemoth, operating the titular game while also controlling a vast number of related books, television programs, and video games. TV features a number of twists on the formula, frequently assigning characters to teams that can share victory, rewarding the biggest killers, and so forth. TV features a vast amount of community-crafted lore and has an in-character discussion board allowing community members to take on the guise of fans in the universe reacting to the show. SOTF-TV is currently in its third version, placing 81 students on a flotilla of derelict ships in the middle of the ocean. Following TV3, a number of smaller-scale TV versions will be run.
Second Chances
Second Chances uses a classic storyline, in which characters are kidnapped by a mysterious terrorist organization and forced to battle to the death, but brings one fundamental twist: all characters are revisists and reinterpretations of characters who perished in other versions, either by their creators or by new writers. Adapted to a universe close to the real world, they set out to do battle once again. Second Chances' second version reached its conclusion in 2020. A third version is likely to arrive, but is officially "deconfirmed" at the moment, with no specific timeline for its launch. Still, you're welcome to explore the character permission archive to plan characters you may want to use.
The Program
The Program envisions a dystopian new-future United States controlled by a fascist military dictatorship. As part of its plans to subjugate the people, students are selected to fight to the death four times a year. This changed following the intervention of British forces in late 2026, which saw a number of students rescued and whisked to safety. Following this, the US governmentlaunched a retaliatory attack, kidnapping British students and forcing them to fight instead. This game—the third full version of The Program—is currently in its Endgame stage, with the final students facing their ultimate fates. At present, The Program is officially on hiatus—after PV3 concludes there will be no further games in the universe for the foreseeable future, though nothing is written in stone.
Alternate Universes
Mini is home to a wide array of smaller, shorter-duration games, many of them run by community members. If you're interested in running an AU, check out the procedures.
A list of AUs, sorted most recent to oldest, follows:
SOTF: U
SOTF: U, hosted by Shiola, is the latest AU on Mini. SOTF: U follows a group of university students on a study trip funded by the secretive Janus-Hayes corporation. This game branches from the norm by, for the first time, sporting an older cast of characters at a very different stage of their lives than the typical high school classes.
New Battle Royale AU
Announced on April Fool's Day 2022 and launched on April 2, the New Battle Royale AU retreads the ground of the very first AU hosted, only this time with enough handlers to fill out the cast and drawing more heavily from the novel continuity of Battle Royale than from the manga.
SOTF: Supers
The creation of VoltTurtle, SOTF: Supers is the second new AU. In the world of Supers, every person is born with their own unique ability, ranging from fantastical powers to inconvenient anatomy. The game sees a class of high school students kidnapped and forced to put their abilities to the test in a battle to the death!
SOTF: International
Hosted by Brackie and launching in late April 2021, SOTF: International is the first AU under the new system. It sees a collection of strangers taken from various nations of the British Commonwealth forced to fight to the death.
SOTF: Evolution
The first member-hosted AU, all the way back in 2010, SOTF: Evolution saw a collection of strangers subjected to experiments that granted them strange mutant powers. While it concluded long ago, Evo can be read in its entirety in chronological order here.
Virtua SOTF
Originally intended as one of the core Mini universes, Virtua is set in a virtual reality in which characters are digital fabrications operated by unseen players. While Virtua struggled with the implementation of its concept and has been on hiatus since its conclusion, there has been discussion of reviving it in adjusted form to better take advantage of its unique concept. Stay tuned!
Battle Royale AU
The very first AU, and indeed the first game hosted on Mini, the Battle Royale AU ran a fan-created version of Battle Royale, the original source material of our stories. The BRAU ran out of steam shortly before the final ten, and was never completed. It probably never will be.
Additional
Our sister site, SOTF Main, was launched in 2005. Featuring larger-scale, longer-term games, SOTF Main has an expansive continuity. In April 2021 it opened application for V8 Pregame, a prelude to the death game that spans approximately one year, detailing the mundane lives of characters prior to their abductions and untimely demises.
Versions 1-7 of the SOTF story spanned sixteen years and four sites. The archive holds the most complete and accurate collection of those games, and is regularly being updated and improved—over the last year, we've restored avatars to archival accounts, adjusted some post times to match their original dates, identified the accounts tied to formerly-missing posts, and corrected the accidental removal of approximately 2000 non-standard punctuation marks! Navigating the archive is made easier through the Archive Hub on the WIki, which offers details on past games!
In true retro fashion, we have a guest book! Stop by and leave a message! Please keep all messages kind and appropriate for general audiences; this page is patrolled and moderated.
