The announcements came. The third one, loud and clear over the hundreds of hidden speakers and the jury rigged PA system. He had tried, so far, to keep track of everyone. Players, dead people, the little tit-bits of information that the announcer added at random.

But then something he never thought he'd hear came up, loud and clear on the speakers.

"Panya Bishara was double teamed by one Mae St. Claire and one Alicia White."

Mae... Mae had been attacked? Mae had... Killed? And he hadn't been there to protect her...

W- What if... What if she had been injured? He had promised her that he'd take care of her, and he had run away, like a coward. And now she'd been attacked and he hadn't been there to protect her.

Oh, god, what if she was hurt?

What if she had been hurt because he wasn't there?

What if she was bleeding out, dying on the sands?

His breath caught in the back of his throat.

All because he'd run away, like some scared little kid.

He... He had to go back. He could help. He had to.
