Character Appearance: Howie stands approximately four and a half feet tall when he fully extends his neck. He weighs 800 pounds, putting him at slightly below average given his species. He is five feet long. His skin is scaly and a dull greenish grey, and hangs generally loose on him, especially around his neck. Howie has small, beady black eyes and a hooked mouth. His shell is thick and heavy. On A̶p̶r̶i̶l̶ 8̶, 2̶0̶1̶4̶ May 23, 2024, the upper hemisphere of Howie's shell is spray-painted in rough, alternating stripes each about three inches wide, in red and white—the colors of B̶i̶s̶h̶o̶p̶ K̶e̶n̶n̶e̶d̶y̶ C̶a̶t̶h̶o̶l̶i̶c̶ S̶c̶h̶o̶o̶l̶ Aurora Bay High School:—with a large golden cross in the center.

Brief Biography: Howie hatched from an egg in captivity in 1971, in a zoo in F̶l̶o̶r̶i̶d̶a̶ Minnesota. He was raised there for his first twenty years, reaching maturity at approximately the usual time and with similar ease to other Galapagos Tortoises. In the mid-1990s, however, the small L̶i̶a̶n̶d̶r̶o̶ Minnesotan Zoo was able to negotiate Howie's transfer to their facilities, along with two of his kin. It was at this point that he was christened with his name, which was chosen in part due to the more greenish hue of the skin under his neck.

Howie has led a peaceful existence in the zoo since, spending his days eating and roaming his small enclosure, spending time with his pen companions and being withdrawn to an appropriately-heated reptile house during inclement weather. He is a particularly popular attraction due to his even temperament and mellow disposition, and he is frequently brought out to interact with the public. Howie enjoys being fed by people and tends not to mind his shell being touched, though he is currently rather traumatized and thus more skittish than typical.

Overnight on A̶p̶r̶i̶l̶ 7̶, 2̶0̶1̶4̶ May 22, 2024, Howie was abducted from his home in the zoo by a crew of s̶e̶n̶i̶o̶r̶s̶ f̶r̶o̶m̶ B̶i̶s̶h̶o̶p̶ K̶e̶n̶n̶e̶d̶y̶ C̶a̶t̶h̶o̶l̶i̶c̶ S̶c̶h̶o̶o̶l̶ terrorists, who broke into his enclosure and lured him up a wooden ramp and into a pickup truck by feeding him grapes. Once they had him in captivity, they returned to one of their homes, where they spray-painted Howie's shell, intending to release him in front of the school as part of a s̶e̶n̶i̶o̶r̶ prank the next day.

Unfortunately for them, the zoo's night staff quickly noticed Howie's disappearance. The t̶e̶e̶n̶s̶ terrorists had set off an alarm on their way out, and the staff was able to retrieve the license plate number of the truck from security camera footage. Using this information, the authorities soon located Howie, still in the bed of the pickup truck, which was by this point parked in the garage of its owner's family. On the morning of A̶p̶r̶i̶l̶ 8̶ May 23, Howie is in the police station, having been extensively photographed as evidence, and is awaiting pickup by a specialist from the zoo. The officers are generally displeased by his presence, as he is a nuisance to coax anywhere without offerings of food, though some are amused by the way he has disrupted the monotony.

R̶o̶u̶n̶d̶ Advantages: Howie is protected by a thick shell, which he is able to withdraw into if threatened. He is unlikely to be viewed as dangerous in most situations. Due to his size and quadrupedal nature, he is extremely stable and difficult to move by force.
R̶o̶u̶n̶d̶ Disadvantages: Howie is very slow. Should he be tipped, he would be unable to right himself without significant external assistance. He primarily subsists upon foods unlikely to be plentiful in the L̶i̶a̶n̶d̶r̶o̶ Minnesotan Police Department. As a Galapagos Tortoise, Howie is unable to replicate or comprehend human communication.
