DECEASED

Name: Gillian “Jill” Kruger
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Hobbies and Interests: Gardening, volunteering at the animal shelter, anime club, collecting memorabilia of Light from Death Note

Appearance: In real life, Jill is a stocky girl. At 5’11” and weighing about 200 pounds, Jill is noticeably taller and larger than most women in her life - except for her mother and sisters. She is of German descent. Her skin is white and she has a series of freckles on her nose. Her hair is curly and dark brown. It reaches her mid-back. It is usually tied in either a singular or twin French braids. She has a large forehead, a large nose, thin lips, and hooded blue eyes. She has a noticeable scar on her eyebrow from an accident as a child. She usually wears practical clothing with muted colors such as brown, black and grays. Many of her clothing articles have stains, holes, and are visibly used.

In the CR, Jill has a default Avatar without much modification. Her Avatar is a default white-with-brown-hair girl Avatar. She has little to no knowledge of modding and adapting the Avatar, so she usually wears the same clothes every day she logs, which is a white blouse and dark pants with a pair of gray slackers. She accidentally made her eyes brown, and didn’t know how to change it, and so she kept it. Her Avatar is smaller than her, both in size and height at about 5'7" and 150 pounds, which has been a weird experience for her.

On the day of the abduction, Jill was using her typical Avatar.

Background: Jill is the second oldest daughter of Amelia and Christopher Kruger. They previously had Samantha, or Sammy, a year prior and then had their younger daughter, Layla. Amelia is a community organizer and Christopher is a writer for an online paper called Cyber Watchers. It is an organization based on documenting actions of CR users, and especially their misuse of said technology such as the death of a teenager who had spent three days inside a machine and dying of dehydration.

Both of them have made the choice of keeping their three daughters as far away from CR as they grew up due to fears involving the technology, specifically due to seeing it explode within their lifetime, leading to Christopher’s current job. Furthermore, their three daughters were homeschooled until high school, which made it simpler to make them avoid CR technology. Jill then had a variety of hobbies that didn’t involve it as she grew up. She often helped at her mother’s garden, enjoying getting her hands dirty. She also visited the animal shelter on multiple occasions with her father, volunteering with them.

Due to being homeschooled and having not that many friends, Jill was a quiet kid preferring keeping to herself. While she had her sisters, Jill didn’t feel like she particularly enjoyed their presence. Her older sister often picked on her, and her younger sister was spoiled. As the middle child with little supervision, Jill started to look at other ways to keep herself entertained. That’s where she fell in love with Light from Death Note. As a 12 year old, Jill was browsing the Internet looking for something to watch. Despite her parents not allowing her to use CR, she still had access to the family computer with little to no oversight, so she was able to go on streaming websites with quite an ease. With this, she stumbled onto Death Note.

Death Note became an obsession for her. She binged the series in a couple of days, and rewatched it. After hogging the computer for so long, her parents had asked her what she was doing, and Jill explained she had found a show she liked. Her mother found it deeply unsettling, but thought it was kind of cool that her daughter was watching something mature for her age. Her father encouraged her to watch more anime, pointing to things that were largely more for her age. Some of his suggestions worked, and she started watching things like Sailor Moon. When she turned thirteen, she received an allowance, and she started splurging on memorabilia of anime, particularly of her favorite character, Light Yagami. Her deep love of Light Yagami is based on several factors. First, she thinks he’s hot. Then, she genuinely enjoys him as a villain protagonist within the story. Finally, Jill thought it would be cool to have the titular Death Note and being able to kill people.

When she turned 14 and entered high school since her parents didn’t believe in their homeschooling abilities for high school classes, Jill fell into a new world. She had to wrangle many social pressures with a wider grasp of classes and a strict schedule. This was very stressful for Jill, but with the help of her older sister who had mellowed out who already had friends, and the anime club, Jill was able to cope with it. Additionally, she had to learn how to wrangle CR which she deeply disliked. She found it too complicated, and too confusing, and would prefer continuing her homeschooling without it. Despite this complication, Jill managed to make friends who enjoyed meeting her in person to do activities like going to the movies and going to the park. She much prefers doing things in the Meatspace than the Cyberspace.

Her current goals in life are to continue volunteering at the animal shelter and gardening. with her grades being a tad bad from a lack of studying, she is considering going to a trade school and learning something she can do with her hands, possibly to do in construction as she has deeply enjoyed the woodworking classes she took as an elective. Finally, she continues to collect items about Light Yagami. Her most prized position is a PVC Light Yagami action figurine. She hides it from her family and keeps it in her closet to make sure nobody can break it. Most of her friends who have been to her place have seen it, however.

Family-wise, her older sister graduated and is still in contact after she went to college, and Jill still has to wrangle her little sister being annoying. Her parents are content in their marriage, and recently adopted a cat named Hairbrush which Jill is allergic to.

Personality: Her personality is similar in both Meat- and Cyberspace. Jill is a quiet figure who prefers sticking to herself unless she is around her friends. She only becomes sociable around those with similar interests, which is especially anime due to joining the anime club. Jill tries her best to be sociable and kind with others even if they aren’t nice to her. Her friends are often surprised how there is little difference between her Avatar and her real life personality due to their somewhat different appearance.

Reputation: Her friends enjoy Jill due to her interesting upbringing without CR and having a father reporting on the darker side of technology and her general sociable personality. Some people who are pro-CR can sometimes be rude to her about her father or about her own opinion about the topic, but she tries her best to be cordial toward them. Despite being a nerd who likes anime, Jill rarely gets teased about the topic due to the fact she rarely talks about it to people who aren’t involved in its world.

Evaluation: "Do you know how hard it was to create the whip that killed Count Dracula? I had to make virtual holy water and everything. We got an actual priest to bless the computer we coded it on. You better be grateful because you'll need all the religious favor you can get." — [POLK], Armory Programmer
