SC3 Applications Are Open

#1

Post by MurderWeasel »

Howdy, everyone!

As of this announcement, applications for SC3 are officially open! However, we have a few things to note.

First up, for the first two weeks, each handler may submit only a single character. For the two weeks after that, each handler may submit a second character (or up to two characters total, if they come in later). This process will repeat twice more, eventually allowing handlers to submit up to four characters total, according to the calendar below (we're opening apps a few hours early, but still counting it as Monday for purposes of second, third, etc. characters). Note, however, that only three characters per handler may come to the island proper.

October 16 - 29: One character per handler
October 30 - November 12: Two characters per handler
November 13 - November 26: Three characters per handler
November 27 onward: Four characters per handler

We'll make reminder events for new waves of applications in the Discord, but the precise moment each wave will open will be when it is posted in a reply to this thread.

Please make sure to take note of the profile template and the State Of The World post/setting information when editing or drafting your character for submission. For Second Chances, all characters have appeared before in some form, however for SC3 specifically this has again been adjusted.

We are aware that this version has drawn some attention from handlers from outside Mini's traditional member base or who have not been around for a while. That's awesome, and we're stoked to have you! There are a few differences in site culture/procedure to note, however, which will help make your adventures as smooth as possible.

First off, Mini has its own rulebook. While the core design is similar to what you may have seen elsewhere or in older version, there are several areas where rulings are different or have changed. It's worth giving at least the Core Rules a read. Don't hesitate to ask if anything confuses you!

Specifically of note is the Extreme Content Policy, which governs certain sensitive or frequently-mishandled subjects such as significant pre-game violence, abuse, and sexual assault. These subjects are not verboten per se, but in the interests of keeping a good leash on subjects that have heavy potential to cause harm to others, or to play poorly with the tone and style of the game, we ask that they be handled in detail in character profiles. Also, be aware that, if staff feel the risk of something being handled in problematic fashion is just too high, you may be asked to excise such elements.

Like most Mini versions, Second Chances features only one round of character applications, followed by a roll-call. Unlike most Mini versions, Second Chances allows for Pregame-only characters/characters who do not participate in the game proper, and will feature a Meanwhile section to allow handlers to continue RPing these characters (or others) if they so desire. That said, the final limit of four characters per handler is firm. You can give away characters if you want, but you cannot submit replacements until your roster is below four characters. That is to say, if you want to replace a character, you must first give them away (and have that adoption confirmed by staff) or else withdraw them officially. Withdrawn characters may not be used further, in Pregame or in Meanwhile—this is to preemptively prevent churning characters to establish a huge Meanwhile cast. If you absolutely desperately want to have extra characters for Meanwhile but also a full three-character island cast, talk with us about it and we'll see what we can work out.

Finally, as stated/required in the escape rules we're reminding folks that staffers may choose to sit out any escape information if they so desire—anyone choosing to do so will be announced publicly prior to launch of the actual version. As with TV3, MW will be serving as the grand escape guru and communications/plans/complaints should be directed to him or to other staff who are not on the exclusion list (currently including all other staff). We're trying to break this rule in a bit/normalize the shifting pool/process, so expect to see various staffers sitting out escape info in versions from time to time, even if they're not necessarily going to actually interface with the rules.

Phew. That all said, submit your character here. Don't have a character yet, but want to participate anyways? Check out the Open Permissions Archive and grab one who catches your fancy!

Already got your character in? Waiting for the next cycle of apps to open but still want to write more? Don't have an SC character, don't feel like adopting, but still want to be in a game? Looking for some speculative fiction vibes? Check out the SOTF: Cyber AU, hosted by DerArknight and also taking applications right now!

It's October 30, and as of now the second wave of applications is open. All handlers may submit up to two characters total (though may still have only one in the active queue at any given time). This does mean that if you have yet to submit any characters, you can submit one and then submit a second immediately upon approval of the first.

The third wave of applications will open in roughly two weeks, on November 13, with one more wave afterwards beginning on the 27.

Also, a quick little note to follow up from the first post: Rattle's sitting out escape information this version, per the escape rules. If any other staffers decide to later as well, it will be announced publicly prior to launch of the actual version.

It's now the 27, so that means the final wave of apps is open. This means that anyone may immediately submit a new character upon approval, up to four total.

Please remember that: a. you can still only have one character in the queue at a time and b. while you may submit four characters for Pregame, the cap for the island is only three characters.

Also, we haven't been timing out applications because the queue's been fairly manageable, but if for whatever reason you would like to pause work on an in-progress app and submit a different character first, just drop us a line and we'll make that happen for you.
