(Chevy continued from TERATOGENICITY)

The inside of the dorm hallway was better than the dramatic scene back at the roof.

Chevy and Reinette were downstairs on the 3rd floor. Chevy opened a door, noticing that it was unlocked. He peeked inside. The room looked cluttered, but it felt comfy in a way. Furniture from a past era. Lack of room, but Chevy can see some perks to it. There was a closed window overlooking the square outside. The room also had two closet-sized bedrooms. The lack of a bathroom was some concern, but Chevy needed shelter.

"This looks good, right here." Chevy said, seeing an old couch and wooden chair in front of a television. One that looked like a giant microwave.

Chevy couldn't help, but sit on the couch. His back was still killing him.

"I think we're able to stay in here for now. Seems cozy enough." Chevy said, trying to add some appeal to the cramped dorm room.

Reinette was curled up on one of the beds, her boots off again. She was warming up her toes. The cold island cut through the thin walls of the dormitory, causing the room to be cold despite the two warm bodies in proximity. Reinette was looking out through the windows, her shoulders drooping softly. She wasn't interested in the death game situation.

Her mind went back to Darwin's Theory. They had Progression coming up. She'd never have a power rolled to her again. She'd never have something given to her as a gift. She'd never have fun in a death game again. She almost started to cry again.

Only almost.

Instead, she spoke.

"We need to kill them all."

Ok. Everything is nice and calm. Now, I can think of something with Reinette here to-

"We need to kill them all."

The tone immediately shifted hard. Reinette's statement made Chevy immediately look at her.

"Kill them all? You talking about those guys that kidnapped us?"

Uh oh.

[Lilith]

"Well, maybe. I meant the... the things"

She turned toward Chevy, her face cold and frigid.

"If we kill them, their experiments fail."

She meant the things that killed the professors.

"Right! Right." Chevy wanted to sigh in relief. He thought Reinette was a bit unstable.

"What the hell were those things, though? That thing that.." Chevy wanted to mention the creature that killed Harrison and the other two teachers, but he was trying to meditate the conversation.

"It might be possible to kill them, but we don't even have any weapons. There are possibly the others from the ship who are trying to survive, knowing that polar-bear thingie or whatever is on the loose." Chevy theorized, knowing that there had to be other people on the island. It couldn't have been just Chevy and Reinette.

"I think staying here for now is a good shelter from those creatures. There's no way that they can climb stairs."

Chevy might be completely wrong on that suggestion. Those creatures could have been like the raptors from Jurassic Park, who learned how to open doors.

[Lilith]

She grimaced at that suggestion.

"I also doubt that it can do that but..." She curled up, raising her knees to her chest. Reinette still looked outside. "I wouldn't be surprised if it learned. If they are experimenting about making it a killing machine or whatever, they wouldn't throw it at us knowing that it would be stopped by stairs."

Reinette sniffled, noticing a drone outside. It was moving so quickly she wouldn't have noticed if she didn't focus all of her attention outside. She wouldn't be surprised if there was one inside with them as well.

"It's what I studied, after all."

Reinette mentioned how Janus-Hayes could have made the monster being able to learn. Now, Chevy was thinking about Jurassic Park again. The thought that Reinette said, worried him.

This thing that was loose was something that the corporation made. They made an abomination, so it could be used as a weapon. Whoever came up with the idea, it had to have belonged to that scientist asshole. Chevy wanted to think of more stuff, but he saw something briefly out of the window. Was that a bird? He tried to think more about the topic.

"They kept this thing in the dark for who knows how long. Why they are having us be involved is beyond me. But, I agreed that we need to find a way to kill that monster." Chevy said.

He was thinking of the great wars that he himself studied. Genocides and environment damage from war armies that did anything to win. Agent Orange, the nuclear bombings that ended World War 2, the cannibalism of ancient Chinese wars. This was something different. This wasn't a nuclear weapon that could wipe out the human race with the drop from a plane. This was something that was made to invoke terror into the enemy of others. Janus-Hayes could sell the creature to some warlord, so they can use it for crimes that were only excused and away from justice in the act of war.

No one should be forced to die to something like that, just as the victims of past atrocities.

"The monster wouldn't even know where we are. It has to be feral. It can't possibly where we are from just knowing. There would also be no way it could just go up stairs looking for us. There has to be a reason. It's like a predator. A shark or something, maybe? Ok, not a shark. Maybe it's like an usual polar bear. It attacks when provoked." Chevy suggested.

[Lilith]

"See, polar bears attack when they're provoked, or when they're really hungry. And if it's been in a cage for long enough..."

She trails off. Reinette stays quiet for a while. Her gears working hard. She studied nanotechnology, and her field of research was the use of nanotechnology during war time such using it to create communication technology. Killing the thing wouldn't be so hard if she had her hands on, let's say, a self-replicating nanomachine she had worked on in her labs. She just needed an opening.

"I think, actually, we might be able to kill it here."

"If we're killing it, we need to deal with two things." Chevy said, extending his pointer finger.

"We obviously need weapons. We need to find out where we can get guns or explosives. There has to be weapons lying around somewhere. Enough to take the thing down." Chevy then extended his middle finger with his pointer finger still out.

"Second, we don't even know where it is. It might have wandered off somewhere, but I'm not going to go venturing out into the middle of an abandoned town to have the thing sneak up to eat me." Chevy was trying to think of how the beast might try to kill them.

[Lilith]

"I doubt we need to go far. We have the height advantage. If we get things on the top of the roof, we just need to throw them down at whatever they're sending to us. And if we're lucky, we score a killing blow. If we're unlucky, we wasted ancient furniture." Reinette finally turns toward her comrade. "That doesn't stupid, right?"

"I'm not going to throw this couch off the roof." the couch that Chevy was on was giving his back the relief he needed.

"Trying to crush the monster isn't going to work. Especially with this old furniture. We would need something as heavy as an anvil. Plus, it will be bad if we missed. And even if we do drop something on its head, we might just make it more pissed off."

To be fair, that wheel of cheese that Chevy left on the roof was heavy as a brick, but it would more likely kill a human being when tossed off, than whatever the hell that thing is meant to resemble, besides a demonic polar bear.

Reinette looked sad.

Her idea would work.

She was sure of it.

"I guess." She shrugged, looking back outside, but her face genuinely looking upset now. A little bit closer that when she was on top of the building, ready to throw herself off. She rubbed her right hand with her left hand, waiting for the dull pain to go away only revealing a large bruise in the shape of a saving hand. She sighed.

"I don't know what else to do." She squeezed her knees tighter against her chest. "Other than throwing things down the stairs so that nobody else can come up, I'm coming up with a blank."

Reinette was correct. They had little to no options. No weapons. No explosives. No ways of knowing on where that thing was. Chevy got himself a partner, but they were completely at the down to fend for themselves with food and miscellaneous supplies.

There were people on the island, though. There had to be people from the ship!

It wasn't Chevy realized something, when he brushed his hand against his pockets. The familiar rectangle outline of a phone. His phone.

He reached into his pocket to pull out it. The damn thing better work!

Of course, Chevy knew that it was pointless. His phone had no signal and the WhatsApp didn't even load in for him. Not to mention that Chevy's phone charger was in his bag that was still in the cabin. Whatever happened to his other belongings, they must have dumped them off the boat.

He still had his wallet, that was still something to note. Putting his phone back in his pocket, he was focused on the PDA that was on his arm. He didn't want to break it, however. He fiddled around with it to see a map of the island. An option was across his mind.

"There are other people on the island. The only idea I have is to do safety in numbers." Chevy suggested, though he do wanted to find something more useful.

In Darwin's Theory, this was the time where parties usually started to form - and usually started to devolve. She had seen it first hand, and witnessed it through her own involvement in them. She isn't too foreign to concept of death games, and this one didn't involve explosive collars that stopped them from hiding in a place until the end of the game.

So, why not abuse it?

"I disagree. Other people have already started killing," she announced. "This isn't my first death game. I know how it works."

"We don't know that!" Chevy said, though he was not given details on the situation of the others.

"We don't know if anyone is on board this whole death game. They could be busy avoiding that polar bear!" Chevy continued, until Reinette mentioned that this thing wasn't her first death game.

"Wait, what do you mean, this isn't your first death game?"
