S68 Profile Template/Example Profile

#1

Post by MurderWeasel »

As mentioned in the announcement, we're providing the S68 profile template in advance, so handlers can brainstorm/plan/whatever other fun things. Note that this is subject to change if we have a good reason to, but we're not specifically planning to mess with it. Also provided is an example profile—this isn't a shining perfect profile, but rather one intended to give the general vibes of what we're looking for.

Characters submitted for the Season 68 will use the following abbreviated template:

Code: Select all

Name:
Gender:
Age:
Height:
Weight:
Eye Color:
Hair Color:

Appearance:

Interests:

History:

Personality:

Reputation:

Connections:
This should be filled out as follows:
Template Explanation wrote: Name: Your character's name. First, last, and (optionally) middle.
Gender: Your character's gender.
Age: Your character's age. This should be 16 or 17 assuming normal progression, with up to a year's variance to account for being advanced a grade or held back a grade. Characters in Season 68 are juniors.
Height: Your character's height. Imperial units, please, though you may additionally provide metric measurements if you so desire.
Weight: Your character's weight. Once again, Imperial units are a must, metric may optionally be added too.
Eye Color: Your character's natural eye color.
Hair Color: Your character's hair color. If this differs from their natural color, note both.

Appearance: A brief paragraph detailing your character's notable physical features, clothing preferences, etc. Please include the outfit they were wearing on the date of their selection. This day was a reasonably warm Spring day.

Interests: A brief paragraph explaining what your character likes to do, what they like about these activities, and when and how they got involved with them. Please make sure you have at least two or three distinct activities.

History: A few brief paragraphs hitting on your character's life thus far, including notable incidents and any relevant family circumstances. This is not a full biography and only important information should go here.

Personality: A brief paragraph about how your character acts, what sort of person they are, how they feel about the world, and so on.

Reputation: A brief paragraph explaining how your character is generally regarded by the population of the school, as well as whether there are factors which complicate the accuracy of this assessment.

Connections: Two characters who will not be entering Season 68 who have ties to your character and are of an age to potentially be included in the follow-up Season 70. Each character should have a brief sentence or two about them and how they relate to your character; this doesn't have to be too in-depth. Characters in this section should attend Forest Glen High, and should be in 9th-11th grade.
Staff are going to be liberal with approvals here—this is not a full-on SOTF application experience. That said, please remember to keep profiles pretty succinct. We've included an example profile below which is not necessarily something that would be one-shot, but which represents the upper end of length we're looking to hit; you can definitely go shorter than this and be alright, but shouldn't be exceeding it in any major way.
Example wrote:Name: Heather Stapleton
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 130 lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Dark brown

Appearance: Heather is a Caucasian woman with a somewhat stout build; while her weight isn't too far above average, she carries it primarily around her middle and in her thighs and shoulders, giving her a rounded figure. This pairs with a circular face, a broad, flat nose, and a wide grin to give her a friendly appearance. Heather's skintone is pale, and she's more likely to burn than to tan. Her hair, which falls to her shoulders, is thick and curly, and she wears it loose. Heather is not particularly interested in fashion, and this combines with her family's modest means to leave her often out of style; she tends towards clothes that are on the more concealing side, often longer dresses or thick sweaters. On the day she was chosen, she wore a long-sleeved yellow dress with large white polka dots that fell to halfway between her knees and her ankles, black tights, white sneakers, and a black headband keeping her hair out of her eyes. She also wore a chunky black bracelet and small silver hoop earrings.

Interests: Heather's biggest passion is the mystery genre, and she is an avid consumer of mystery fiction in literary or film form, both new and old. She's spent some time writing her own mysteries, though considers herself a novice at best. From this interest springs a lesser fascination with true crime, but Heather finds the idea of prying into the suffering of living people appalling and focuses on unexplained mysteries from far in the past; her pet project is the Thames Torso Murders. For similar reasons, she tends to avoid SOTF-TV, though has a solid awareness of the murder of Season Nine winner Tina Jones and the disappearance of Season Five escapee Jessica Hillman. Heather took up viola in elementary school for a required musical component, but came to really like the instrument and has stuck with it. She now plays in the school orchestra. Heather's best subjects in school are English, history, and music. She performs well in science and math when she can connect them to her areas of interest, but otherwise does not pay good attention to the subjects.

History: Heather is the older of two daughters, preceding her sister Amy by one year. Her father, Andrew Stapleton, is an accountant, and her mother, Susanne, is a stay-at-home mom, though she also has mobility problems due to a car accident when she was a teen; while never uncomfortable, the single-income nature of the family and periodic medical expenses mean they've always been scraping the lower end of middle class.

As a child, Heather was slow to grasp fundamentals, and had to repeat the second grade, ending up in the same class as her sister. Amy was much more naturally extroverted, and was athletic to boot, and became a popular class darling; Heather inherited some of this affection, but mostly because Amy adored and was very protective of her older sister. While the girls have grown and changed over the years, this dynamic has remained remarkably stable. Amy's place in the spotlight has only increased, something true even at home, as her passion and success as a dancer allows her mother to vicariously relive dreams from before her injury.

Heather loves her sister but also often feels stifled by her, and has slowly cultivated a more involved inner life; she is very active online, usually semi-anonymously, posting to Subreddits and Discord groups connected to her interests. Her parents are generally supportive of her doing what she wants, though this is partially because of Amy's activities demanding more of their attention and bringing more obvious successes.

Now well into high school, Heather has a few close friends on her wavelength but is mostly a peripheral figure on the fringe of the popular crowd that surrounds her sister. She often feels like an extra in her own life, and is unhappy about that, but doesn't know what to do about it; ultimately she's planning to pursue a different post-secondary path than Amy, and hopes to finally come into her own then. Until that time, she's getting by as best she can.

Personality: Heather is outgoing but lacks in confidence; she has long felt overshadowed both by her younger sister and by her own primary friend group. She's quick to get into conversations with others, and is a good listener, but does not assert herself well; if challenged on an opinion or desire, she will almost invariably back down. Heather doesn't like this about herself, and is aware enough of her tendencies to know what's happening, but struggles to change. She often thinks of other people as pushing her around, though from their perspective they are often merely loosely questioning her ideas. The one big exception is Heather's online interactions; behind the anonymity of the internet, and with time to compose precisely what she wants to say, she is much more collected, and when she engages with her mystery and true crime communities she comes across as self-assured and eloquent.

Reputation: Heather is known mostly as being Amy's unsure, awkward sister. While reasonably popular with teachers, her peers tend to find her in equal parts forgettable and pitiable. Her interests don't overlap much with those of her classmates, and she so readily accedes to requests or demands that she rarely has much room to explore them with those outside her inner circle anyways. It's widely accepted that she would be bullied if she was an only child.

Connections: Amy Stapleton, Heather's younger sister, is one year her junior but shares a grade with her and is frequently mistaken for the elder of the pair. Amy is tall, confident, successful in school, and a skilled dancer; she has been the shining star of the family since childhood, and much as Heather loves her sister, she also harbors some quiet resentment towards her.

Vivian Rushing is Heather's best friend, though few would guess it because the girls tend to be very quiet in their time together. Vivian is similarly guarded, but this stems less from lack of confidence and more from a history of rejection; she is a deep believer in the paranormal and has been teased about it for a long time. She and Heather share their interest in old, unexplained mysteries, though Vivian's theories take a decidedly more fantastical turn; it's a mark of their closeness that they continue to collaborate despite having totally divergent beliefs.
