la guerra de los santos

open, still day 1 allegedly with possibly a third of the whole roster

Hugging the southern side of the island, this small village is where the vast majority of the island’s previous residents lived, worked, and leisured. The houses and occasional business closest to the waters edge all reside on stilts, a preventative measure for the unpredictable tides, while those closer to the outskirts begin to have backyards and small farming coops. What some would consider the centre of the town also contains a small square, as well as a simple stone church, short two-story bell tower, and wild overgrown gardens surrounding a distinctly leaderly house.

"Right." He said as he looked around for something, anything outside the ordinary or useful. There wasn't much for Jevaun to find, other than the plethora of fishing equipment in place...

He took one of the poles with him along with a bucket, attempting to place that within his bag before deciding to carry that in his left hand by the handle along with the pole, which was held by the midsection and carried in his left hand as he walked towards the door of the hamlet. He looked back towards George who he hadn't been paying much mind during their search.

"Looks like we've got this place covered, but I saw something up ahead. Might be something there."

He walked out the door and started to head towards the church.

Pranay considered using the rope of the pole for something, but he didn't intend to carry a whole pole or a bucket. Carrying his bag pack was enough and the pole was not going to be anything of value.

George followed Jevaun towards the church.

Jevaun slowed his brisk walk towards the church once he could see the door clearly, whilst letting some second guessing of his decision making take place in his head. He hated when that happened, it was always something with these abandoned buildings that got to him, and this place was the definition of abandoned.

A quick look behind to see that George was following him and Jevaun's confidence was there for what needed to be done.

He put the bucket down with the pole on top of it with a balancing act and carefully, his left hand crept up on the door handle. He didn't say a word during this and it creaked open as he looked in, gun first, into the room.

There were sounds inside. Maybe someone?

He entered.

The silence of the church was broken by the tell-tale rumbling of a bag of chips.

Abel looked over at the entrance to the church, one arm resting on top of the pew.

"You're loud."

Still in his seat, he went back to his chips.

There was someone inside. Pranay hoped Jevaun would just shoot them. After all, it did not matter to him if some random criminal from the other side of the globe would die, if that meant that he'd get to live. This seemed like a Twilight Zone story. If you push the button, you get to live but someone you don't know dies.

George calls out for the voice:

"Hey! You friendly?"

Abel kept eating the chips.

"'Pends. I'd rather not get shot at, whatever answer gets me there. Unless you're not the louts from like four minutes ago, 'suppose."

It could be said to be warm and humid in this church and it certainly was, but Jevaun hadn't noticed where he stood near the door slightly ajar as he kept his gun pointed downwards and silent on the matter that had been brought up by bag boy seated up front. Only a slight shake of his head as an answer, he'd let George do the talking for him, he seemed to be better with that kind of stuff than he was.

He turned his attention around the room and looked through the windows where the light flowed through despite the clouds outside. He used to like looking at the clouds that would form back home. Now, seeing them through these windows, it just felt like a painful reminder of a place he wanted to get back to.

His eyes burrowed downwards and looked across the room, between the decaying pews that called it home, beyond the boy that stared at them with questions in mind and towards the altar.

The object standing on it had his attention.

((You wondered how long range a pistol could possibly be, as you studied the church.))

You'd seen a few people meander in and out, and while most of your time walking with the boy had been contemplative, with short sounds and gestures guiding your path, it fell in the category of companionable silence. Turns out he knew how to navigate somewhat, and you had no idea how he knew what direction the sun rose and set in.

You hadn't really asked, either. Small talk wasn't big on your list of things to do.

You both are crouched near a small dry dock, with a boat half-repaired lying in the long wooden V that made up the majority of the structure. The wood it was made of was crudely crafted, rotting and groaning in the subtle coastal breeze. With one hand, you point to the church - maybe a kilometer, maybe less away - with your other hand cradling the pistol you'd taken from the hapless kid on the beach.

"Okay. People are in there. I'm going to try and hit the windows, then you'll get a turn."

You motion for him to plug his ears, and you shove the sandy balls of fabric into your own before squeezing off five rounds rapidly in the direction of the stone building.

((Caleb Policarpio continued from Suburbia Overture))

He never caught her name.

Caleb realized this around the time they finally emerged from the rainforest, and by then he was too afraid to ask. It didn’t really matter if he looked like an awkward ass, but it still made him nervous. It could be interpreted as weakness, and the last thing he wanted the girl to do was change her mind about their little partnership.

It wasn’t like she was much of a talker, either, so maybe it was for the best. After all, what was the point of befriending someone who was supposed to kill you? As much as he appreciated having someone to watch his back, Caleb knew that when it came down to just the two of them, she wouldn’t hesitate to stab him in the back.

He couldn’t even blame her; he would, too.

There was no point in thinking that far ahead, Caleb reminded himself. For now he just followed her lead, keeping his mouth shut and pulling his own weight.

So that’s why he just nodded in reply when she suggested they do some target practice, and covered his ears when she motioned to do so. Caleb still jumped as she fired the first few shots.

"I have no idea what you're talking about," George said in response to the lout comment.

"We're friendly. We're trying to find a way out of here."

George began to smile.

"What's your name? Where are you fr-"

Before Pranay could finish, he could hear the gunshots.

[[Jia Li Qiáo continued from O19: Examine]]

Jia Li did not have a death wish. She really didn't. As soon as gunfire could be heard, she should've ran in the opposite direction, as self-preservation told her that going towards people with guns was an awful idea.

And yet, she ran towards it.

Maybe it was the foolish thought that she could surprise attack the person with the gun and get her hands on it. Maybe it was the more reasonable idea that Dominik would follow, and she could convince him to gun down the person lest innocent people get killed.

Whatever the case, Jia Li ran towards the gunfire, not even bothering to see if the others would follow.

The church wasn't exactly the nicest she'd ever seen, but she hadn't really been to many churches in her life.

More gunfire, and windows shattering. Jia Li wasn't sure if someone inside was shooting or if it was someone from a distance-she wasn't planning on getting closer to figure out the answer, considering that would definitely get her shot.

But she needed to do something. She'd ran all the way over here-she wasn't about to waste all that energy just to sit and stare from a bush.

There were a couple of rocks near to where she was crouched-the biggest about half the size of her palm. She'd grabbed a larger one while walking with the others-the size of her fist and dirtying the inside of her jacket pocket-but she wasn't using the big one yet. She had other plans for that one, if the need came up.

Snatching the half palm rock, Jia Li mumbled out one thing before it went sailing toward Stained Glass Window Jesus.

"Forgive me, Father."

His staring contest and concentration on the object on the altar was broken, much like the windows of the church. Jevaun crouched down immediatly, almost losing his footing completely in the process.

"What the fuck?!" He yelled out in suprise, not bothering to hide his shock nor fear. He crept closer to the wall as another window broke. There had to be several outside with how the windows were broken.

A group of killers? Maybe George was on to something if people were this willing.

His hands tentatively crept around the trigger of his gun all the while as he waited for sounds of movement or more gunfire, anything that would give away their position.

He could not show hesitation at this point, he'd already been attacked before and it was only because of George that he made it out fine. This time, it was his turn.

The chips flew out of the bag and scattered everywhere as Abel jumped and fell right out of his seat at the cacophony of bullets and windows shattering.

He disappeared somewhere among the pews.

Put a bunch of criminals on an island, give them guns and that's exactly what was ought to happen. Pranay was shocked by the shattering of the windows and the gunshots and the sheer chaos that was surrounding him. He instanly ran towards a chair to hide behind it.

George turned to Jevaun to shout at the guy armed with an actual weapon instead of a joke item.

"Dude! What are you doing? Shoot back!"

Jevaun inched along the wall, sidling with slow steps before stopping once George made his voice heard.

"Fucking...just..." He said, trying to stay as quiet as he could.

Idiot! It was like he was trying to let them know where they were.

Jevaun quickend his pace and inched faster to the window, and with slow breaths and with both hands on his gun, quickly pulled it towards the window and blind fired through it.
