Despite her confidence, the next few hours didn't come easy for Cassandra. It was happening again. It happened yesterday, too. Once the adrenaline wore off, she was in no better place than where she started. Her confidence began to wane, little by little, until she wasn't so sure about herself anymore.
She had no plan. No concrete course of action other than survive and...
Strike first. Even though her confidence was gone, that much was sure. Cassandra couldn't let any of the others even get a chance to hurt her... anymore than someone already had.
She had to be preemptive, otherwise she would...
Her mind flashed back to the boy at the customs house.
To Daniel.
To the boy at the graveyard.
Were they still alive? Minus Daniel, of course.
There couldn't have been that many left. That belief was hammered home when the announcements came on. She didn't really pay attention to the names. She couldn't trust anyone after all, regardless of whether they were on the announcements or not.
The halfway point. How many kids had been abducted? She couldn't even pretend to know.
It... was almost over, right?
Well, she wouldn't get an answer. Not now, anyway. She just had to... just had to keep going. For how long? She didn't know.
She was... well, she had to be ready.
With her mind filled with uncertainty, she finally left the house.
