Dance-Off on the Prairie

Enter: Anton Chevalier

Covering the entirety of the map is the Dry Plains, a massive prairie of dry and withered grass that give an almost desert like feeling to any traveler. The prairies are typically open, with strong sunlight constantly beating down during the day and cold winds during the night. Random shrubs, dry trees, cactus, tumbleweed and rocks of various size are scattered throughout the Dry Plains. The railroads can be seen stretching its way through all of the prairie.

Dance-Off on the Prairie

"Ladies and gentlemen. Introducing... The Alderbrook Allstars!"

Anton's heart was pounding as he stepped out onto the stage, facing a crowd of around a thousand or so screaming onlookers. He resisted the urge to wipe some sweat from his brow. After all, he had to look cool. Act as though he wasn't freaking the hell out. Play things with a straight face.

Beside him stood the other four members of the Alderbrook Allstars, all of whom were dressed in their appropriate uniforms. Dark blue sweatpants and white tank tops. Like him, they showed no fear, despite the fact that deep down each of them were just as afraid as he was that something would go horribly wrong. Sure they had all practised more times then he could even remember, but the danger of someone screwing up was always present. And since this was their first big show, if something bad happened this night, then all hope of the Alderbrook Allstars hitting it big were as good as gone.

Eventually, as the smoke began to clear, and the dubstep began to play, Anton Chevalier creaked his neck. It was time to get to work.

Their movements were slow at first, but in perfect harmony with the music nevertheless. Each of the members moved in complete unison, their dance growing with intensity with each passing second. The crowd, which at first had been excited and rowdy, were now completely speechless as the stage was occupied by the dancers pulling off the kind of moves which would have made Michael Jackson himself raise an eyebrow.

But none of the dancers could have possibly compared to Anton himself, who at that moment was currently in the middle of his own solo as his fellow dancers stood by the side. Everyone in the auditorium had their eyes on him, gazing in wonder as his fluid-like movements were perfectly in tune with the music.

Anton Chevalier was the centre of the attention, and he was loving every minute of it...

...At least, until the light began to get a little too bright.

It started off as a slight nuisance, but after a while the light went from being mildly annoying to unbearably intense. To the point where he eventually stopped dancing altogether as he attempted to block the light with his arms, shutting his eyes as the world around him seemed to disappear.

It was at that point that he realised that he lying on his back outside with the sun blaring down on him.

The hell? Did I pass out or something?

Rather then allow himself to be blinded, the dancer quickly whipped out the white rimmed sunglasses he always kept handy from his pocket and put them on, realises at that point that he was back in his usual attire. Blue sleeveless hoody, jeans, red trainers, the lot.

"Shit, musta been another dream. Note to self: quit getting yourself caught up in drinking games during parties. God DAMN, my head hurts..."

However, as he slowly got up from where he was lying down, a passing tumble-weed was more then enough to convince him that something was not right.

"What the fu....." He began, when suddenly it all started coming back to him. The train. The voice telling them to kill each other. The...

Shit, what the hell is this around my neck?!?

His hands shot up to the leather collar that was fitted quite snugly around his neck. For a brief moment he was tempted to try to tug the thing off, but a particular piece of "advice" from the memory came to mind.

"My advice? Don't screw with it."

"...Son of a bitch."

His hands hung limply by his side as he surveyed his surroundings, trying desperately to get everything that had happened straight in his head.

Okay, lets just quickly appraise the situation: I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but tumbleweed as company. Apparently, I'm expected to kill all my classmates, otherwise some lethal shit is gonna happen to me. And unless I'm mistaken, Yosemite Sam is behind all of this.

...Damn, I guess I must still be asleep then, 'cause that is some weird ass shit right there.

Of course, the thought did come to mind that this felt particularly real for a dream, but for now Anton shrugged it off as paranoia.

Because if this wasn't a dream, then he and everyone else who came with him was seriously fucked.

[[M17: "BIG MIKE" Michael Gibraltar START!]]

Michael Gibraltar had been traveling down the prairie for a while now. He had originally woken up, alone on a parked train, which made sense, because he had passed out on a train and he was probably waaay to big and heavy to move by hand. It took a hell of a lot of that knock out gas to put Big Mike to sleep, that was for sure, but it happened. He remembered being one of the last to go out cold after Mister "Sheriff" laid down the law.

Why were cowboys train-jacking high school kids and forcing them to kill each other anyway? It was all so friggin weird. Mike was flat out confused over the idea. For now, he was just wandering around and looking for any one of his classmates. Then maybe they could figure out just what the hell was going on.

However, there Mike lay, sprawled on his back on the ground somewhere in the middle of the prairie. The sun continued to bake him like a chocolate chip cookie. He was only resting, but he might as well have been lunch in the eyes of a bunch of buzzards.

Speaking of baked goods, Big Mike had been carrying around a pink box which contained his "weapon" - a packaged birthday cake. It didn't even have the right name on it!

Damn, he really needed to find some shade soon and fast. It turned out the plan to travel across the dry plains to find his classmates wasn't such a good idea after all. He was burning up in the terribly dry heat and he hadn't even seen one of his classmates yet. Overall it was a humongous waste of time. His cake probably melted by now.

"Man. I'm Canadian." Mike entertained himself, as he cupped his big tummy. "I'm built for the cold not the heat."

He took a swig of the water from his canteen and he felt slightly better. Turns out a "Big Mike swig of water" was chugging down the whole thing in less than a minute, because the canteen became completely empty. Mike was about to grab for his cornflakes for a quick snack til he heard a voice nearby.

"...son of a bitch."

Alright, so the guy didn't sound happy, but still - Big Mike had heard the faint voice of a classmate who he could not spot as of yet and who he could not yet identify by voice alone, but still it was someone!

"YO!" Mike shouted out loud... perhaps he should have done that way earlier? Probably would've found more people.

As Anton was in the middle of trying to figure out what the heck he should do next, a familiar voice suddenly caught his attention.

The young dancer swung his head around, trying desperately to figure out where this voice came from. Was this newcomer hiding somewhere? Then why would he try to catch his attention? Unless of course Anton was just hearing things, which considering the insane situation he had found himself in wouldn't that surprising.

However, it soon became evident that whoever it was must be on the other side of the hill to his right. So without wasting any time, Anton grabbed his surprisingly heavy bag and made a run for the hill, curious to see who it was who was trying to get his attention.

Sure enough, it turned out to be none other than Mike Gibraltar.

"Big Mike! Aw man, am I glad to see you!" said Anton as he rushed down to greet his friend from theatre club. The young dancer was more than a little glad that the first human face he saw in this desolate place was a friendly one, rather than some hardass like Richard Ormsby. Not that Alderbrook really had many people like that compared to some schools, but the fact remained that Anton was damn lucky to meet someone he knew so soon.

"Pretty screwed up situation, huh? You seen anyone else?"

Well it got somebody's attention alright. At the top of a very small plains hills situated nearby came that very same voice, coming from the pretty much the only 6'2" mocha choca latte yaya with cornrows in their grade. He came running down the hill and there was no questioning who it was.

"Holy crap! Anton, Mister Anton Chevalier, is that really you? Or is this some kind of mirage playing mind games on me? What's is up my brutha!"

Mike made sure to exaggerate the last few word, before letting out a loud bellowing laugh and giving Anton a friendly shove. Yup, physical contact, the feller was for realsies!

Sure, Mike saw him not, maybe, five or six hours ago before boarding that train to their field trip to... huh, he couldn't remember where they were going again. That gas must've been worse than he thought... but still after walking around alone for a few hours on a baking wasteland of dried grass and dirt, it felt really freaking good to have finally found someone, especially someone who's a friend, whom he was pretty darn cool with. The smile didn't fade from Mike's face even when Anton immediately brought up the stupid situation they were all stuck in again.

"Yeah, tell me about it! I've wandering around this uh, desert I think, for a long ass time, looking for anybody from our class, and you are pretty much the first guy I've seen all day! Just trying to figure out what the heck is going on you know? Anyway..."

Big Mike shrugged and picked up his pink box from atop his sitting bag. He opened it up to reveal a few candles surrounding the words: Happy Birthday Janice!

Anton laughed along with Mike as the other boy gave him a friendly shove. It was good to see that despite the fact that they all seemed to be thousands of miles south of home, they could still act like they were just hanging out back in Alderbrook as if nothing strange had happened.

Still, introductions aside, the fact still remained that neither of them seemed to have any real idea what the heck had actually happened. Nor did they have any idea where the rest of their classmates were. Anton could only imagine how the rest of his friends were handling this. Most of them were probably scared out of their minds right now, not that Anton could blame them. Hell, a part of him was still a little freaked out by the fact that someone had actually knocked him unconscious and put a weird dog collar around his neck. Christ knows what kind of sick perverts designed these things.

"Cake?"

For a few brief seconds, Anton wasn't entirely sure what to say, but it didn't take long for the young dancer to take the hint as a bright smile appeared on his lips. Sure, why not?

"Don't mind if I do..." he said as he outstretched his arm to pick it up, only to change his mind at the last second. "Actually... On second thoughts, maybe later. We probably ought to save that for a special occasion or something."

A few seconds of silence went by as Anton tried to think of what kind of occasion would justify having some cake to celebrate it before he shook the silly thought aside to focus on the situation at hand.

"Anyway, uh... I don't know 'bout you, but I think we ought to try and see if we can get everyone together before something bad happens. Or at least try to see if there's anyone here who knows what's really going on. Personally. I don't think anyone's gonna give into this whole 'Kill or be killed' bullshit. Well, 'cept maybe Richard, but even then I doub't even a guy like him's gonna want to go around killing everyone in sight."

He shook his head, kicking some sand as he sighed deeply to himself.

"At least, I hope not anyway."

Anton accepted the offer, but changed his mind at the last moment, saying that they should save it for some sort of "special occasion." Mike gave him a look with an arched eyebrow and a slight smile.

"Surely Anton, you don't think that Big Mike'd poison the cake or anything! I mean that would be a tremendous waste of dessert. You know me!" He laughed a little before stopping himself after a bit of thinking.

Maybe the cake was poisoned. He couldn't trust random baked goods from strangers, especially terrorist strangers who hijacked their train and forced them into this strange game. Damn, and he thought he could use the cake to get their minds off the whole issue. He closed the box and put it down.

Then Anton started giving his idea to find everyone they knew to figure this whole situation out. It made sense, no one was gonna kill anyone! How would those train robbers even know if they were or anything? Unless...

Mike, put his hand to his neck, feeling that weird collar contraption around his neck. How could they even find a collar big enough and strong enough to fit around his neck. Were there cameras anywhere too? He looked around, couldn't spot any. Why were they doing this anyway? For entertainment? He shook his head and put his pack over his shoulder.

"Yeah let's do that, find our Alderbrook Peeps and figure a way back home. You and me are probably two of the biggest and strongest looking mutha's out there, no one's gonna wanna mess with us anyway! For serious!"

A few hahaha's and Mike was ready to move homeward bound on their incredible journey... He always liked that movie.

((Tania Chell continued from Aspiration))

To be honest, Tania still had no real clue what was going on. It all seemed so unreal. Even if she had decided to ignore the question of whether it was all happening or not, the fact was that she couldn't fully ignore it. The question still gnawed at her mind.

They had made it out of the Ghost Town, more so due to Tito than herself, and were making their way across the plains. Maybe they could get out of this place, find civilization. Something told her that was probably unlikely.

She sighed. "I don't understand why this is happening to us. It surely can't be coincidental, but I can't think of any cause for this sort of thing. Or for that matter, a reason for it." She stopped walking for a moment. "Hey, um... you don't think maybe this was all just a mistake right?" She was hoping Tito would reassure her, inform her that yes it was all just a mistake, and alleviate her growing fears.

Realistically, that probably wasn't going to happen. More than likely he knew little more about the situation did she did, and any attempt to figure it out at all was a waste of time.

She stood there, waiting for his reply, out in the middle of nowhere. No one else around for miles, surely they were all alone. All alone, so small in a world so big and uncaring. She started to sob, tears streaming down her face. She didn't know why, all she knew was that she was going to die out here and no one would ever care.

The universe was a cold, cruel place. That was her philosophical outlook at the moment.

[Tito Simonin continued from Aspiration]

And so this is continuing, and the new-formed team jumped out of the Ghost Town to go...well, nowhere specificly.
They got the wastelands covering all the designed area for the game. Nothing but a desert-like landscape, few cactuses and some rocks spread around.

The situation of the game was still confused. Tito had no idea of what was going on and he still hadn't decided how to get part in all of that.

Suddenly, Tania started sighing and asking questions that Tito could have hardly well-answered.

So he moved his eyes onto the girl and firmly said: "I don't get it too, but we are in it and I don't know what's expecting us out there..." he said looking all the desert around them. He then came back to the girl: "The only thing I know is that I don't want to die right now and be sure i won't stand still, waiting to be killed by some random guy...and yes, I think this is a mistake, or at least, I would like it to be so..."

Cinic as always those were the only words he had for Tania.

"Come on, we can't stop here, in the middle of nowhere, we would be easy targets."

He rapidly started to walk again, with his map in his left hand, and the wooden pole found in the house they left in his right hand.

Just few minutes of walking and some vague figures started to appear in front of his eyesight.

Two people to be precise, but they were still distant, maybe a couple minutes of walking from their position.

He stopped a second to think. Would have been good to approach them? Or just avoid them?

Well, he needed to something, and wandering around the whole map wasn't going to bring him nowhere near surviving the game.

"Look there, we are going to speak to them, hopely so at least. Just stay behind me."

She had no useful weapons other than that elixir of unknown effects and the "strong" kung fu guy was he himself, and Tito was ready to protect the team.

Walking and walking the distance shortened until no more than 20-25 meters separated the two groups.
He stopped there, turning back to see if Tania was right behind him.

He kept the pole planted on the ground and started waving his left hand, with the map still in it.

"Hey guys, what's going on?"

They didn't seem so aggressive, for what Tito could have seen and probably the didn't have bad intentions at all.

(Still technically away. Just having a quick post to keep the thread moving. I might come back an edit this post later.)

A big smile appeared on Anton's face as Mike enthusiastically agreed to his suggestion.

"Yeah man, for serious..."

Honestly though, Anton hadn't the slightest idea where to start. Sure, he had found one of his friends, but how the heck was he going to find everyone else? All he could do was pray that he could find them all before something bad happened. Sure, he didn't expect anyone to actually go as far as playing along with this messed up game, but god knows how many bad things could happen out there in the wild west.

Instinctively, his hand found itself fumbling the crucifix he wore around his neck. Don'y worry man, everything's gonna be fine, you'll see...

"Alright, uh... First things first, we gotta-"

"Hey guys, what's going on?"

He turned his head towards the direction of the voice to find that two newcomers had arrived. Ha! I KNEW luck was on my side!

The young dancer smiled and began to wave his hands. "Hey! Oh, nothin' much. C'mon over, me and Mike are were going to try and find eveyone to see if anyone know's some way out of this mess."

The voice in back of him startled Big Mike. He was caught off guard and jumped out of his boots a little. Figuratively. He was too heavy to really jump out of them.

Where did they come from? Not that it was a bad thing of course. He just didn't expect to find everyone bunching up together after not seeing anyone for hours was all.

Anton waved his hands invited the two over. Big Mike sorta knew the two, well by face at least, like in class, but he didn't really know them too well outside. Tito and-and... uh...um. Tahneya?

"Hey folks. We were just making plans like leader man here was saying! So that's four of us. That's good now only uh, like 40 more to go! We just gotta gather everyone in our class together and people are gonna rescue us right? I mean, it's pretty obvious if a train full of high school kids goes missing... AMIRITE!?"

Yeah, Mike had faith that they would be found before anything stupid happens. They would be rescued. He truly believed so. Sheriff guy wasn't going to get away with this.

They could split up and look for people and then meet up again in a set rally point. It seemed so easy.

Big Mike picked up his box of birthday cake and looked over. Were they gonna come over or what?

He was tired of standing here in the middle of the sun already and wanted to get walking already!

"Cake?"

If that won't get 'em nothin' would.

Tito called out to the other people, and while startled at first they seemed to warm up to the two of them. Tania started drying her eyes, no need to make a scene when everyone was being so helpful. The two boys were Mike and... Anton, if she remembered correctly. She sure hoped that she did.

Mike said something to the effect that they were sure to be found by somebody. Rescued too. He was right, everyone could get together and find a way out of this whole mess. It was amazing what a different perspective on things could do to brighten Tania's mood.

"Y-yeah. Everything will be okay. Everything will be fine. People will come. We're not alone. We're not alone. We're not..." The tears started to come again, but she fought them. Stay positive, look on the bright side. Mike had to be right, he had to be.

The big guy offered some cake. That sounded really good. With a sniffle, Tania nodded. "Sure. Thank you. Come on Tito." Everything would be all right. They'd have some cake, find everyone else, and get out of here. No one had to die, no one was alone. Everything was going to be all right.

Luckily for Tito and Tania, the guys over there were calm and fine, so they both joined the two over there.

"No, thank you, I'm not hungry..." said Tito, refusing a piece of Mike's cake.

Everybody there was so irrational, and Tito couldn't stand it. They believed that all that situation was going to finish soon, with every classmate rescued by some good guys...This wasn't going to happen, and this is what he was going to explain.

"How can you act like this? Do you all really think that someone is coming to rescue us?"

Ok, these were harsh words that could be avoided, but this is how Tito was: rational and frank.

"Why do you think we got this?" He said, pointing at his collar. "I'm quite sure this has something to do with tracking us at the very least..." And maybe he was right, who knows?

"Do you also think that everyone else could join you? The first girl I met in the Ghost Town was desperate, and couldn't even keep her baggage near her. If she met someone who decided to play the game, she would have died instantly. And what we find someone like her pointing a gun to us?"

Considering the stress this situation can give everyone, the possibilities for that to happen were very high.

He didn't know if saying all of this to the other guys was a good move. Anyway His most rational part would have led him to play this game, since he hardly believed they could have escaped the game, and he cared more about himself than about his other classmates so it was very hard to take a serious and good decision.

However, there was something stopping him, maybe some undying faith, but it was not as strong as his will to survive.

"Anyway..." he said while strenghtening the tie of his hoodie around his waist "I don't really know about this, I don't know if I want to join this group, at least, at the moment, but I can tell you that four guys were on the Ghost Town streets, looking to do something like you two said."

He looked Tania, then came back looking the other two guys. "Probably Tania would join you and...moreover, we can meet again at some precise time and in some precise place. Splitting up could be a good decision, and moving in small groups can lead to your goal faster."

He was right, even though he didn't want to join a big group know, he may wanted to do it later, especially if they got something like a plan to escape.

"If it's ok with you, just sign a place over this map and a time, and we'll meet there when the moment comes."

Would they have accepted that? He didn't know, but a try was worth.
He was starting to get confused though, and that was why he prefered to be alone.

Well, at least Mike definitely agreed with him, and Tania from the sound of things seemed to like their idea.

Anton couldn't help but feel a little proud when Mike referred to him as "leader man". He hadn't really given that idea much thought, but now that Mike brought it up he couldn't really think of anyone more suited to the role. At least, nobody who they had yet to meet anyway. He definitely didn't mind the idea of being the leader for now anyway, at least until they find someone better suited to the role. Maybe that was just because he happened to have the ego the size of Jupiter, but in any case he was just glad that people were beginning to agree with his idea.

Well, most of them did anyway. Tito on the other hand sounded very skeptical about his suggestion. Not that Anton could really blame him, considering the nature of their predicament, but at the same time that didn't change the fact that Anton wasn't exactly fond of what Tito was suggesting. How the heck could they be tracked with leather collars anyway? If they were metal, then maybe that would make sense, but since they were just leather Anton was almost certain that it wasn't possible for that to be the case. Heck, he barely believed that they really were as fatal as that guy on the train said they were. They were just told that to keep them in line, and if he really was to tear it off right now nothing would happen.

Not that he was willing to actually put that theory to the test.

In any case, whilst Tito didn't sound interested in joining them, he at least made up for it by telling them that there was a couple of guys with a similar idea in town.

"Well... I'm sorry you feel that way man. Personally, I'm almost a hundred percent sure that nobody's actually gonna buy into this shit, but if you're not so sure yourself then thats fine. To tell the truth, I haven't the slightest idea how the heck we're gonna get out of here. But for now, all that really matters is that we stick together and try to keep cool so that we can figure out a way out of this mess."

On that note, Anton reached into his bag and took out his map, giving it a look over as he continued to speak.

"But, I like your idea. If we spread out, we can cover more ground, find the others, then all meet up back at the... Uh, how about the chapel? That sounds like a good place for us to set-up camp for now."

He turned to his other companions.

"What 'bout you guys? Got any other suggestions?"

Tania seemed alright, agreeing with them and accepting Big Mike's cake offer. This Tito guy on the other hand, he rejected Mike's perfectly good birthday cake and to top it off he was talking to him like he was stupid or something, which kind of bothered Big Mike a little bit.

Suddenly Tito was ranting and blah blah blahing on and on about something, that Michael really wasn't paying much attention to.

"What else are we going to do Tito? Start killing each other? A bunch of kids go missing, the national guard or something like that are gonna start looking for us and the terrorists cowboys responsible for it all, you know? Look, no one is just going to let the fact that a freaking train full of people just got hijacked and do nothing about it."

Tito did have some really valuable info though, that much Mike could forgive the guy for. There were other people in the town with a similar plan! That was great!

Well of course they would. It was a logical answer that people would feel like the military people or the cops or something were gonna start searching for them eventually. They were a full class of people gone missing because of terrorists, the nation would be on high alert and start searching for them. It wouldn't make sense for them not to. How could Tito not understand that?

Who in their right mind was gonna follow through with this anyway?

Then Mike thought about those words again and that worried him a bit. Right Mind. Damn, what if there were people who weren't in their right mind after all this?

Anton responded back, and Mike really liked what he heard, calming him down a little again. Leader man was cool and knew his stuff.

"Yeah splitting up is cool with me guys, we'll spread more ground. Chapel sounds sweet! Hey maybe we should split up and look like through the North, South and West of the map with one of us guys bringing Tania along? Then we can meet up at the Chapel again later, in the East?"

Tania looked at Tito with a sad frown on her face. He wanted to split up? He didn't think that staying together was a good idea? But he was so nice. He told her all what he knew about what was going on and he was the one who spoke up so they met Mike and Anton here and...

Mike and Anton said their pieces as well, each agreeing with splitting up but disagreeing with Tito's outlook on the situation. Tania didn't want Tito to stop being the nice guy she knew his was. She didn't want him to go into survival mode and try to actually play this twisted game.

"You can't give up hope!" She blurted out. "It's fine to be self-sufficient but don't think that this game has to happen. I-I don't think it will, if everyone just tries to stay together and find a way out of here."

She shook her head. "There's a lot of differing opinions on human nature and the way people really are. I'm not sure what I think completely yet, but right now I feel that at least we as classmates are good people. Shaken up yes, but I don't think anyone among us has it in them to be a killer."

She nodded. "If you really want to split up, I won't stop you. But I don't want you to give up hope. We'll see each other again, at the Chapel like we agreed. And I know, I just know we'll make it out of here. You'll see Tito. We won't have to play this game."

She wasn't sure who she was trying to convince. Tito or herself? But she'd have to form her own philosophy later. Right now, they had to find other people to gather together so they could be found. Surely, no one would want to play. No one would want to kill each other.

No one could be so nihilistic to start doing that, right?
