The first line in Preston Grey's brand spanking new notebook read:

c2 = a2 + b2 - 2abCos(C)

There was no second line, cause Preston had taken a vested interest in his pen wobbling around in his fingers rather than the notes jotted down across the board, and the...stuff that sounded vaguely like the teacher speaking and saying stuff someone more interested in Trigonometry should be taking down. Because let's say he did buckle up and focus - how was learning how one angle of a triangle was equal to the opposite side gonna help him in the future?

There was stuff he could think about though. Like that party this weekend. Who was it who invited him again? It was a chick, he knew that, a bangin' chick at that. Name escaped him, of course, since he couldn't be bothered to remember everyone's name, now could he? Although there was that problem if it was one of those rich kid parties where everyone's so up themselves they don't even wanna be seen talking to you. Like anyone would think less of those rich a-holes than they already did if they saw them talking to a catch like Preston.

If it was a rich kid party he could just go visit his sister at work again - all her work friends were usually happy to see him, at least that's what the botox said. It was hard to tell at a place like that. Either way he'd stop by just because dad asked. She had some money borrowed he needed to repair the oven.

Or he could grab a buddy from sophomore and go check out the waves. There wasn't many people he knew who could refuse something like that.

See? That was the kinds of things he'd be missing out on if he spent time caring about how to find out an angle in a scalene triangle or whatever. Priorities, man, priorities.

The teacher was looking his way again, oh snap. Preston leaned back in his seat and brought the pen closer to the paper and in a writing position for a total of ten seconds. Once he turned his attention towards the goodie-goodies in the front row, he slumped back down and flipped through the pages towards the back.

There was an awesome little something he'd been working on on the back cover. An eagle. But a wave eagle, like a bird emerging from the waves. There was a lot you could do with a pen besides holding it to look interested in Trigonometry.
