“I already put it down,” Verity shouted.

And she had. Just as she’d said. She was still holding it, of course — like hell was she going to let go when the guy trying to ‘negotiate’ with them was the one pointing the weapon in the first place — but it was by her hips, pointed at the floor. She tried to say it, tried to shout over all the voices in the room, but it was like she wasn’t there. Like her voice was drowned out in the midst of everybody else trying to prove their dick was the biggest. This had all started with her being told to put the gun down. Now it was something else. Even when she’d put the gun down in the hopes of getting this scene to move on, embrace the fact that this had all gone wrong and there was no way of getting out of this now, they all kept going. Kept shouting. Squawking.

Baring their teeth for the bloodshed about to happen.

Ready to kill all the people who’d been classmates this past four years because they’d all been put on their favourite show. Never once questioning it. Never once regretting it. Never once wondering if this show had actually changed them, molded them into the characters they were all so eager to become.
