The Abduction & Real World Events

As with almost every other school, virtual and physical, within the San Jose Unified School District (SJUSD), Sycamore High School's 2023 Spring Break lasted from Monday, April 10th, 2023, to Friday, April 14th, 2023. The network attack—and, subsequently, the start of the game—will occur on Monday, April 17th, 2023. At some point before that date, the terrorists hacked into the network and remotely injected code into the Cyber Reality Devices (CRDs) of the students within Senior Class 12-B. When, on that fateful day, from 7:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) to 8:00 AM PDT, the students attempt to log in to the school's Cyber Reality Server (CRS), the terrorists will intercept their connections mid-stream and redirect them to a dedicated server run by the terrorists instead.

At 8:00 AM PDT—about an hour after the server would ordinarily open, at which point every student would have connected to the network—when classes ordinarily begin, the opening ceremony will instead take place; the announcer will explain the rules of the game to the students and the predicament will be unveiled. Shortly thereafter—at about 8:45 AM PDT—the terrorists will anonymously contact the San Jose Police Department (SJPD) and other local authorities, as well as various local and national news stations; they will reveal the nature of the game and the fact that the students are now their hostages, as well as that any attempt to remove the CRDs from the students will have lethal consequences, threatening to kill the students if an attempt at intervention is made.

At about 9:00 AM PDT, once the authorities confirm the situation as not some twisted joke, they will begin to move the physical bodies of the students—taking all possible precautions to avoid losses in connection or physical damage to either their bodies or CRDs—into a dedicated ward of the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center ("Valley Medical"); at Valley Medical, they will be under 24/7 surveillance and guard, their vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, pulse oximetry, respiratory rate, etc.) monitored at all times to ensure the rapid detection of any abnormalities.

Between the times of 9:00 AM PDT to 10:00 AM PDT, the students will spawn in the arena. After approximately a minute of unconsciousness, each one will regain consciousness and awaken. The spawn locations are predesignated by the terrorists and randomly assigned to the students; they took precautions to ensure that spawn locations do not overlap to guarantee two students do not spawn in the same space and time. Each student will awaken as their ordinary school-approved Avatar, left unchanged and unaltered by the terrorists; next to them is their backpack, which will contain all necessary provisions and their assigned weapon.

At exactly 9:40 AM PDT, several live streams will begin simultaneously across standard internet, darknet, and deep web addresses; throughout the next five minutes, a sizable botnet organized by the terrorists will begin to coordinate a spam attack across social media platforms with direct links to access the streams. Even though many of these streams—primarily those hosted on standard internet websites—will be taken down by content moderators in a matter of only a few minutes, the events of the version will rapidly enter the sphere of public knowledge. At exactly 9:45 PDT, the opening ceremony will begin, all footage set on a timed delay of one hour; by 10:00 AM PDT, footage of the game starts to play.
